Fred Robbins Reportedly Signing with Rams
Fred Robbins is a 32 year old defensive tackle. 6'4'' 320 lbs. Former giant of course.
Per Rotoworld:
The Rams are reportedly finalizing a deal with free agent DT Fred Robbins.
Reuniting with coach Steve Spagnuolo? The Rams aim to get bigger upfront, and Robbins (6'4/325) would provide a presence at the 3-technique tackle. If healthy, Robbins would be a boon to the team's run defense.
Yet another signing of a former Giant or Eagle. I like the signing, but I still can't stand how we only go after players who were formerly on the Giants and Eagles. There is plenty of teams out there that have let go solid talent but we won't go after anyone who wasn't on one of those teams. Fred Robbins, Giant. AJ Feely, Eagle. James Butler, Giant. Douzable, Giant. Lajuan Ramsey, Eagle. Brandon Gibson, Eagle. Danny Amendola, Eagle. And I'm probably missing some. I'm not saying these guys are bad signings, I just think if we looked in other places we could find just as many other good, and maybe better players. Its almost like we won't even look at players from other teams. I understand coaches want to get their former players, but they appear to not even be interested in anyone else.
Aside from that rant, Robbins should be a solid addition to our D-line, even though he is getting up their in age. This also may be another sign that we are not going DT and are going QB.

We are going after Clark
And no word on Witherspoon. But there is talent on more than just those two teams. And what we get is what those two teams don’t want anymore.
I was wondering would clark be playing
Strongside moving vobora in the process or does he have enough in the tank to play weakside
I'm not sure
On the radio he said his dream is to play MLB, but that’s not going to happen. I’m pretty sure he’ll sign with us though.
I don't care where they come from...
As long as they are good. It wouldn’t matter if they were all from Canada. As long as they can play then that’s fine.
On this team, we are all united in a common goal: to keep my job.

We are the St. Louis Giant Eagles
Is our main goal to have a team that both the Giants and Eagles don’t want? I think if Shurmer would have gotten fired, there’s NO way Feely would be a Ram right now!!! Aquiring Gibson and Amendola were good moves pick ups but that doesn’t mean every guy that the eagles release should on our team because our shitty offensive coordinator runs the same system in Philly. I bet money Antonio Pierce will be a Ram.
St Louis is opening retirement homes for Former eagles and Giants and it’s called Rams Park.

Any bets on...
Brian Westbrook signing as the 3rd down backup to Steven Jackson? Will Witherspoon (now ex-Eagle) coming back to take his old position? Us finalizing a trade for Donovan McNabb or Michael Vick? I have to agree, what’s up with Giant-Eagles West?
As far as the signing of Fred Robbins, you have to remember that the year the Giants won the Super Bowl, they had Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyora, Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka as the defensive ends and outside linebackers keeping pressure on the quarterback. There were times when Spags as defensive coordinator would pull the tackles (and Fred Robbins was one of them) to have all four of the aforementioned players lined up to rush the passer. So, should we be impressed with us picking up Robbins?
Westbrook has to big of a name for us to sign him. Yea he’s a former Eagle but the Rams are satisfied with signing insufficient non playmakers! Not to say that Westbrook is still a playmaker but he once was and we don’t try to get guys with any success under their belts

The Rams and every other NFL team
are very concerned about the concussions Westbrook has been getting. Someone may take a chance on signing him, but most think he should sit out and take care of his health.
I think Westbrook has some hard miles on him
He’s taken a beating over the years. I would’ve been very pleased with Sproles but Westy I think is well past his prime and was not going to ever be the guy you remember. If he signs somewhere else, we’ll get to see if that’s true.
From what I’ve heard, I believe their outlook on it is “Success under their belts” is not as good as building through the draft. Redskins and Raiders have signed guys with success under the belts and watch the Superbowl on TV like us. Check out the Lions, who just got robbed by Nate Burleson. I’m pretty happy the Rams weren’t trying to top his overpriced paycheck just to make a move to shut up the fans today.

The probable real resons for former Eagles, Giants, & Falcons players
If anybody bitching would actually think about it. Spags and Devaney sign some of these players as starters and backups is because #1 they think they are good and #2 they know the players and know what they are or not capable of? It’s not like Robbins will be the stater and considering most of our backups were undrafted off the practice squad guys. Signing quality backups comes a long way when your starter needs a rest for a play or two. This team is not a year or two away from Superbowl run. So they are going smart right now. Quality backups will help the young starters someone to help lead them and support them.
I just realized the problem
I understand this and understand the importance of quality backups. I guess sometimes it surprises me when people don’t get it.

I understand the importance of having good backups
I just find it hard to believe we are finding the best players possible, if we are rarely even looking into players from the 29 other teams.
There are tons of replacement level players out there.
And a lot of who’s better depends on what scheme they play in. If you’re looking for DT or LB depth, it probably isn’t wise to take someone who is doing well in a 3-4 scheme. That tells us little about their effectiveness in a 4-3.
By going after depth players who they have a working relationship with (i.e., have seen them in practice, film sessions, on the sidelines, in game situations, in the locker room) then they have a much better grasp of how that player fits into the Rams.
This won’t happen forever, though. It’s just that these players are still with those teams and they happened to play under our HC and GM. As years progress, you’ll see less and less of this.

He has his hand up to his ear. Hearing aid.
I re-read what I wrote…and someone posted about old guys…I thought my comment might’ve been understood to mean I thought he was so old he needed a hearing aid, when it was actually just about his hand up to his ear.
dumb, I know…sorry…

Backups to back up our starting back ups!?
The only problem that I see is that we are only picking up or talking to backups. Feely, Clark, Robbins, Baskett are not starting caliber players, yet this is all we have managed to pick up or talk to. And when a team has all backups, those backups become starters. I love the rose colored glasses but, let’s get real. We need starters that are going to be better than the ones that we have now and then we need to back them up with the players we already have on the roster. Isn’t that how we are going to boost our pathetic win total? The last thing I think we need are backups to backups. At this rate every draft pick is going to have to be a Pro Bowler, this year or there will be no improvement. Go Rams!
