Rams had Sproles visit scheduled; sign that the team will be active in free agency?

It's officially Christmas Eve, for NFL fans that is, with the start of free agency and the trading period beginning tonight at Midnight. As for whether or not the St. Louis Rams will be players in the market remains to be seen, but there's an early sign that they might indeed be willing take a run at some big time players who fit their needs, Chargers RB Darren Sproles for instance.

Last week word came that the Chargers would not make a RFA offer to RB Darren Sproles. They reversed course on that today, extending the highest tender possible to the running back. Sproles, who would have likely commanded big money on the free agent market, was scheduled to visit the Rams...and several other teams.

Obviously, the idea would have been to use Sproles as sort of a 1a to Steven Jackson. Anyway, if you're looking for signs that Rams GM Billy Devaney is prepared to explore the free agent market, this is a good sign.

Interesting that the Rams had already scheduled a visit with him.

It’s too bad we can’t get him, but it shows they aren’t just going to stick with the same running back group as last year. I still think they ought to check into Chester Taylor of the Vikings. So far they haven’t tendered him as far as I know, and he is a good RB who’s used to playing 2nd string

Damn it!

Sproles would have been ideal. I don’t know how many times I have posted that the Rams need a Darren Sproles-type running back to back up S-Jax. This would have filled a huge hole…

Here's my post from Feb--It saves me typing so much

Looks like the Rams aren’t the only ones blowing smoke screens—

Sproles will magically stay in San Diego-

How about this trade - straight across!

Alex Barron to the Chicago Bears for their starting Tight End Greg Olsen?

Mike Martz is not a TE guy!!!

pass

We need a good blocking OT. Not that I am a Barron fan, don’t get me wrong, but we can’t create that hole for Olsen, because we can’t fill that hole. For all of Barron’s boneheaded penalties, he blocked so well none of our backups could unseat him as starter.

Imagine, despite the fact he was the most penalized player in the NFC West, they couldn’t beat him out. You can’t just bring up the next guy, or I bet they would have already because Barron’s penalties are drive killers.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...

I don’t see the Rams being heavily involved in the free agency period at all. We all want them to be making moves left and right but I don’t see it happening. Cromartie is gone, Sproles is locked up (with the Chargers) and they have shown NO interest in signing Peppers or Boldin. I just don’t see them making any big name signings and I doubt they even make a move for Osi.

On this team, we are all united in a common goal: to keep my job.
