Rumor: The Rams could aquire Donovan McNabb by Friday

To quote Pat Kirwen on Sirius NFL radio "Often we find where there is smoke there is fire" concerning the Donovan Mcnabb Trade to the Rams.

More smoke has been seen.  Per the link below Mcnabb could be a Ram by tomorrow.

My personal thoughts on this?

I like Sam Bradford but if the Rams FO is not convinced that either Bradford or Clausen is the answer to our problems then this is a very good solution.  This answers our QB issue for possibly five years(McNabb is 33) and allows us to develop a new QB as well as pick BPA at draft selection one.

It is rumored that the Rams will give up the 33rd overall selection.  Is there someone at that spot that we like more then McNabb and Suh or McNabb and McCoy?

Your thoughts?

I like it...

If we make this trade, from day one, we will know that our quarterback will be ready to start on opening day. Would we have had that same confidence with Bradford or Clausen?

Our QB slot will be bolstered with a proven leader who has experience avoiding the rush and making things happen with his feet. We just need our O-line to get healthy and work together to gain some cohesion and then get our wide recievers back healthy. The only things missing to fix the offense would be a steady backup for Steven Jackson, an offensive guard to either replace Incognito or supply the line with depth and a dependable tight end.

Draft Suh with the first pick, give up our second round pick for McNabb, then we have 7 picks left in the draft to address outside linebacker, defensive end, offensive guard, tight end, running back and maybe some secondary help. I’d say that that is a definete step in the right direction.

If you do

this the rams could legitimately be a contender next year, I have been in favor of taking Bradford, by doing this you could still take him, but more sensible to take Suh, and hope your strong enough to start being a contender. I’ll take winning next year, for the loss of maybe having someone you like drop to 33.

According to the link I read

This is not happening. Maybe I clicked wrong.

I don't like it....

a 33 yo banged up QB w/injury history isn’t worth the 33rd pick. His injury concerns mean we’ll see more of Null or Rocket Rielly. I just don’t see how he helps a rebuilding team without an idea of who’t to take over. I say McNabb himself will nix this deal; he obvously won’t sign a long term contract w/a losing team.

I have a hard time seeing McNabb's bad back playing every game next year

wish him nothing but the best, but he’s banged up at this point in his career.

If he puts you into playoff contention

then I say do it. But, McNabb won’t raise us to that level. Why waste a pick (33rd overall yet) on a 33 year old QB? I could see the pick going to Philly for Kevin Kolb, but not McNabb.

I say no. Not for that high of a price.

Everyone keeps ignoring the fact that McNabb has a say in this.

Everything I’ve heard says he would effectively veto a trade to any team that doesn’t have a legitimate chance to win in 2010. He only wants to play for a team that has a decent chance of making the playoffs this year. It doesn’t matter what we want – he won’t agree to come here so there is no use talking about it.

Mcnabb

seriously, a second rounder ain’t shit for this guy. I wouldn’t be able to pull the trigger fast enough to make that deal. Bradford is already, in his early 20’s, injury prone. He hasn’t proven anything. Mcnabb has carried his entire team on his back to how many conference championships and a super bowl. You are worried about a second round pick? What a joke! That would give us atleast 3 years to find the future. I honestly don’t like any of the QB’s in this year’s draft. Which gives us the ability to build the rest of the team. DO IT NOW!!

by illchild on Mar 4, 2010 10:56 PM CST reply actions

It would give us 3 years if he would resign with us, which he probably wouldn't

So you’re giving up a second round pick for a year of a player that won’t help you in the future at all, when you could have a starting OLB for the next ten years instead. And McNabb is not only injury prone, but he is aging and is on the decline. So explain to me how this would be a good move again.

Let me throw some names at you..

Here are some of the recent second round picks that the Rams have had:
Donnie Avery
Brian Leonard
Joe Klopfenstein
Pisa Tinoisamoa
and I’m sure the list goes on and on…..You can’t tell me that a Pro Bowl quarterback like Donovan McNabb is not worth more than any of those players. Even at his advanced age and injury history. Guys, you gotta admit, this cat can flat out play.

I like the direction that the Rams are going..they went away from The Greatest Show on Turf and are trying to become a team that is predicated on solid defense and a solid run game. The run game is there with SJax and the the defense is a couple of solid core players away from jelling. We can get those solid players in the draft this year. Throw in a steady quarterback like McNabb into the mix and we’ve got something! I hope Andy Reid and Spags are throwing up smoke screens about McNabb not coming to the Rams but I’m all for him coming in and being the missing link that could lead us back to the playoffs.

Let me throw out some names for you.

James Lauranitus, Sean Weatherspoon, Jermaine Gresham, Arrelious Benn, Sergio Kindle, Jahvid Best, Terrence Cody. Would you trade 10 years of any of these guys for 1-3 years of McNabb. Also, we are probably going to trade this pick for more picks, so this pick has more value than a washed up QB. The guys the past regime have messed up on in the past make make no difference. So far with this regime, our second rounder is looking to be the answer at MLB for years to come.

by Carneros on Mar 5, 2010 12:10 PM CST up reply actions

We've already got one washed up former pro-bowler QB - why do we need another?

Forget this sh*t, draft Suh and get a still relatively young and low-mileage Mike Vick for QB. He and SJax in the same backfield will run defenses ragged…

by edpjr on Mar 5, 2010 8:43 AM CST reply actions

Vick's 30

And he can’t throw accurately. And he hasn’t actually played in years. I think that “low-mileage” could just as easily be rust. And they want a second rounder for him. Would you rather have Weatherspoon/Young defensive player or immature 30 year old, can’t hit a receiver Vick with our 2nd rounder.

by Carneros on Mar 5, 2010 8:54 AM CST up reply actions

Vick will be 30 before the season starts, and...

I don’t think he’ll require a 2nd round pick. But I’d much rather have him than McNabb or some of our recent 2nd rounders like the departed Joe Klop or Brian Leonard. I’d like to have an OLB with our 2nd pick after grabbing Suh with our 1st. You have to remember that while Vick may not be a Manning or Brady, he’s an upgrade over anything we’ve got. And, considering that we don’t exactly have a solid O-Line, we’ll need someone who can scramble around rather than play statue. Even if we had Peyton – who would he throw too? We’re supposed to be a running team last I heard. That’s tough if you’ve got nobody but one SJax backed up by clowns like Darby and Obog. My belief is that Vick is low-mileage and that any “rust” can be cleaned off. He might have 3-4 good years left, which is the probably the same as SJax. I think it would be a heckuva lot more fun watching Vick & Jax work in the same backfield than watching Jax alone get creamed cause every defense knows they can focus solely on him. We’re 3-13, 2-14, 1-15 – what’ve we got to lose?

by edpjr on Mar 5, 2010 10:13 AM CST up reply actions

I'd like Vick

But I think we’re not going after him so I’ve written him off. I’m sure McNabb doesn’t want to play for us either so he too is written off. We’re stuck at rebuilding so lets rebuild. No old guys, and this is coming from an old guy. I want Suh, maybe a b/u QB in a later round, and Locker, Mallett, or Gabbert next year, whoever washes out the best.
