Random Ramsdom: 3/29/2010
- Jim Thomas takes a look at the defensive tackles in the draft; sometimes they are worth drafting number one overall.
- Mark over at Ramsgab takes a look at the free agent signings so far. Nothing exciting on that front, but at least the Rams have been picking up some solid depth/rotational players.
- It's been a weird offseason for the rest of the NFC West. The 49er's GM is kaputt, the Seahawks have their heir apparent in
Peyton ManningCharlie Whitehurst, and the Cardinals are now dealing with their newest member's DUI. - I'm not a huge fan of Ross Tucker, but this article was interesting because it talks about the stereotypes of football. Sure, "the great white hope" is announced again in Toby Gerhart, but I was more interested in what he had to say about Myron Rolle.
- CBSSports has a team report. A few interesting quotes thrown in. It also reminded me that Lord Samuel Bradford will be throwing today. Shall we anoint him with the Benjamins now, or later?

Whether he impresses or not...
Devaney will be sure to announce that Bradford is the best QB prospect he has ever seen in all his years in the NFL.

er what would the point of that be? Neway if he performs well throwing the ball and the shoulder is healed, we need to take him over Suh and McCoy
Potential Bargaining Chip... that's why

Why r all of u so in luv with bradford?
Spread offense, season ending injury, hits the turf faster than Everett, and has little heart.
For your sakes, I hope Bradford proves me wrong. I would be seriously looking at Clausen.
Where are you getting all this stuff?
Little heart? Come on!
He played both spread and under center in college, he’s had one injury in his career and it has been fixed, the rest is just nonsense. You need to face that fact that Clausen is not seen by the pros as nearly as good an NFL QB as Bradford. He probably will start off as well, but the longer term view is that Bradford will surpass him by quite a bit.
I would be seriously looking at Clausen
Well absolutely. There is no reason not to look at Clausen, who brings a lot to the table. Just as there is a lot to look at with Suh’s main competitior (McCoy). I feel confident Rams FO understand this and will do their due dligence on alll the logical alternatives.
Andy’s statement to face that fact that “Clausen is not seen by the pros as nearly as good an NFL QB as Bradford” is not based on any inside knowledge with any of the pertinent teams. Besides the fact that neither he nor anyone else can speak for “the NFL”, the reality is not all NFL teams think alike, and some scouts an coaches will undoubted prefer Clausen. So take his blanket statements for what they are.

Coach, have you seen any comments from pro teams
or league insiders saying Clausen is better than Bradford, that he reminds them of Aikman or Manning, etc.? I haven’t. I’ve seen all those about Bradford. If you have comparable comments saying Clausen is the best choice, the best prospect since Manning, workouts comparable to Aikman, etc., please provide links. Have you seen any recent mock drafts produced by football pros showing Clausen going before Bradford? I haven’t. Have you seen any teams saying they would trade up to the top five to get Clausen? I haven’t, but I have seen Cleveland say they would trade up to #2 for Bradford, but not for Clausen.
I think Clausen will be a competent NFL QB, and probably will be at least as good as Bradford in year 1. There may well be a couple of teams that would rather have Clausen over Bradford, but those who have gone public have pretty much all favored Bradford. I really don’t understand your constant comments suggesting that Clausen is rated as highly as Bradford. I wish you would back them up with statements by NFL people.
I have seen mocks with Calusen at top
And earlier I provided the links to them. There was a round up at Walter a couple weeks ago where most moks had Clausne going before Bradford.
As far as "league insiders", I have seem to much buillshit to even begin t believe that, and they don;t speak for teams or the NFL and it’s ludicours to think that every front office feels tha same, it just is. Until we have several GM’s say Bradford is clear and way better, then none of it is any more then speculation that shouldb’t be given the credibility of saying "The NFL thinks…."
Walter, who is claimed by many to be credible, has a lot of good stuff on Cluasen, and they seem to think he’s better than Bradford.
Again, until I hear GM’s say it, it’s all speculative crap from sources that have proven to lack credibility.

I'm sure you've seen these, but I'll put them here anyway.
Please feel free to post similar comments from the NFL GMs and coaches about Clausen, not from your draftniks.
“And yet, there is nothing to indicate Bradford hasn’t lived up to his billing as a No. 1 pick. One NFC representative on hand said that after watching the Sooners product extensively, he believed he was as worthy a No. 1 pick as anyone in the last 10 years of the draft. And he called the "total package" disparity between Bradford and Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen "a big difference."
“Said an AFC representative on hand Monday: "If it’s a tie between those three players, it’s not really a tie at all – you always go with the quarterback in that situation. But I don’t think this is a tie. [Bradford] looks like everything you’d want."
“Added Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren, "[Fatigue] didn’t affect his accuracy. He moved very well in his last few throws. They asked him to move out of the pocket and he had a lot of juice left. If you were coming down here to learn anything that you didn’t already know, I think you probably came away saying ‘Hey, he’s the guy I thought he was.’ "
And the last is from the team that said they would trade up to get Bradford, but not to get Clausen. The “guy I thought he was” is the guy they have already said is the best QB in the draft.
Clausen links
Kiper has Clausne rated first. McShay second, but accoridng to this that’s just McShay got bad information on him.
With the 4 pick, Mike Shannahan may take Clausen even if the Rams take Suh. Here. And here. And here.
There is a lot to like about Cluasen that when you filter out hype and just look at facts, you realize there is a reason why the Rams would even bother to compare him to Bradford. Be honest — there’s a reason why they are bringing both he and Bradford in. That reason is because he has #1 potential.
Bon’t believe everything you hear, no matter how many unknowledgeable people parrot the same words over again.

Coach, I thought you wanted to hear from NFL teams,
yet all you give me is stuff from draftniks and rumors from the press who are desperate to say anything to get their names in the news.
My point is they don't speak for the N-F-L, not even Holmgren
Andy you’re a level headed guy, you know no individual teams speak for the league.
Do you think no scouts think Cluasen is better? With all due respect Andy, I think that’s naive.
You listed one name and the rest are who knows…..we don’t even know if the so called “AFC/NFC reprsentatives” have input on the selection or if those are more made up crap like the “team insiders” telling us how close a trade with McNabb is.
Look, I don’t doubt more people may think Bradford is better at this point. That’s not at all the same as saying the NFL thinks that. And until a lot more real people’s names get quoted, we have precious limited evidence of how many people think what.
Let’s not overstate things that extremely few people are attaching their names to. Thats all I’m saying.
