Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Slowly but surely....

.....The Rams are adding or looking to add some championship experienced talent to their roster. I understand the people that we have signed so far are not starting fodder but the depth on our team is going to be able to put the younger starters under their wing and share some of their championship pedigree.

Fred Robbins won a Super Bowl with the Giants three years ago as their starting defensive tackle and Kevin Dockery, who is coming in for a visit and hopefully gets signed was also on that team as a nickle corner. AJ Feeley was the backup quarterback with the Eagles when they were regular visitors to the NFC Championship games and the Super Bowl when they lost to the Patriots. Hank Fraley was the starting center on that team also. Fast Willie Parker was brought in to have the tires kicked and I actually would like to see the Rams sign him as a change of pace backup to Steven Jackson. Parker was on the Super Bowl championship teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers and hopefully will be able to earn a third one with the Rams. I was hoping we could have signed Ryan Lilja when the Colts let him go to give us an offensive guard who also has a ring.

I'm thinking with the veterans that we are bringing in to fill in the holes on our depth chart, maybe we might be able to use some of our extra draft picks to swing some trades? Hmmm....

The veteran moves are looking solid

I wonder how many of them will be around for the 2012 division championship though.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

I really like it as well.

W/the few players selected in FA, it looks really good to have vet back-ups instead of 6, 7, & rookie FA’s on the team. We are getting vet help for chump change compared to what other teams are spending. I don’t have a problem w/that as we will obviously fill certain needs thru the draft. If a player is injured it’s better to have someone knowing what they are doing rather than OJT.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we picked offense the first 3 rnds and defense the rest of the way. I could see QB in rnd 1, TE in rnd 2, and WR rnd 3. Imagine something like A. Hernandez TE & B. Lefell WR on the team? I imagine our points per game goes up and we can still grab talent for our D that will contribute and fall into starting roles or as rotational guys.
I could really see that happening.

Unless we ask Zygmunt to make our picks

we won’t be wasting 2nd and 3rd picks on them. Hernandez would be a good 4th rounder though.
However, if we can grab at least 2 of Wilkinson, Dockery, Diggs and Wilkerson, I believe this FA is shaping up to be an truly unspectacular roaring success.

Yes, this free agency period could still

turn out to be a good one for the Rams if they can pick up some of those guys. It won’t be as flashy as some, and we may not get a terrific starter who leads the team in tackles, but if we can keep filling in some of the holes on the roster we have a chance to come out pretty well.

But last year was run under cap rules

and they were free agents. This year similar guys were restricted FA and teams set the bar too high for picking them up. There wasn’t nearly the young talent available this year as there was last year. You just can’t compare the two years since the rules were much more restrictive this year.
