Rams to meet with RB Willie Parker
He'd be a good backup to Steven Jackson. If the Rams think his injury history is a thing of the past, they should try to sign him. He would definitely be an upgrade over any other backup RB the Rams have.

I've always like the idea of having Paker
He couldn’t handle the workload of a starting RB but he should do fine with maybe 10 touches a game. I think he is better than anyone we have now. I hope we do sign him. It couldn’t hurt. I’d be happy 3 headed attack of Jackson, Parker, and Ogbannaya. And Jackson’s Orlando Pace’s head in the attack.
I bet they sign him.
His price tag should be fairly low. I think he might be a good fit.

not bad
definitely a change of pace from Jax. definitely not what you call a power runner, but he should still have enough left.
Curious
If the Redskins passed on him in favor of Larry Johnson, that suggests to me that he might not have much left. As a back that relies on his speed, the injuries might just be too much to overcome. However I trust Croom’s judgment and it is not like Darby sets the bar too high. Currently I doubt he is signed but he might be an option after the draft.
But he and LJ are two different kinds of runners so they have felt LJ was a better fit with Portis
Just maybe. You’re right about Croom, he definitely knows his shit. If Willie is reasonably healthy, I’d like to see him take some work load off of SJ39
The blind stares of a million pairs of eyes, lookin hard but won't realize, that they'll never see the C. And when I'm rollin by, you can't see me!

I'm behind this one
He’d be a solid complement to AxJax.
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
You freakin' flip-floppers..
I mentioned Fast Willie as a backup RB possibilty in conversation 4 months ago and was bombarded with jeers of “idiot, that sucka is too old!”
just goes to show…blogs save lives.

dramatic lately?
two people thought Parker was a no-go for the Rams
(I’m just glad I wasn’t one of them………..;-)
Nevertheless, I think things, and perspectives, have changed a little. Besides, when you mentioned it, it was November. I don’t think anyone had a good grasp on the free agent market, the no-cap strangle hold, and other factors at that time.
Anyway though, I’m all for getting Willie Parker and I can say I’m definitely not a “flip-flopper”…..at least on this subject……..

it would be overdramatic, if it wasn't posted in jest.
TB, your self-righteousness actually stands a chance at possibly toppling mine. Proud of you.

Here‘s the link to the comment I think you’re referencing; it wasn’t as bombard-ic as you remember.

thanks to
Tacklebox and 3k for calling me out on the overdramatics. Do you guys mean to tell me you’re not supposed to exaggerate on messageboards?

I like the idea
Parker could be the guy that prolongs Jacksons career. I’d like to see Jackson have as long a career as possible.
this would be a positive signing for us.
it be nice having a back like Willie P spelling SJAX throughout the game.

Still nothing to improve starting team
Willie could be a good backup. I’m not sure he’s “fast” Willie anymore, but I’m sure he’s better than our previous backups.
Still…all our signings are for depth. We will have a pretty good set of backups. Some, like Willie, will only be for one year. At the end of the year, we’ll have to start all over again. In the meantime, we haven’t signed any improvements to our starting rotation.
Good for Willie. If he signs…great.
Are we going to sign any starting talent soon?
Like who would you suggest?
Who out there is starting material that is reasonable in price? Please share…

Bench players are important indeed
They do have important roles, and we’ve taken a step forward in this manner. I agree with TackleBox and apparently RamsFan1979 as well.
However, last year we grabbed Jason Brown to start at Center. This year, we haven’t made an impact like this yet. My argument is about starting talent – not to diminish our depth signings.
Being the devil’s advocate:
I would’ve liked to see a play for one of the starting TE free agents that were floating around (Watson, Baker), or seek a trade for Sheffler, who might be too expensive.
If you anyone is in the Suh camp, we could’ve grabbed Brady Quinn for relatively cheap and tried him out for a year. Some may say the same for Derek Anderson.
Would’ve liked to see a move for Kampman. Yeah, he was expensive – but how much did we pay Brown? Maybe we’ll be able to keep Little…but if Little AND Hall leave, we’ll really be in trouble.
Would’ve liked to see an OLB brought aboard. Fujita may have worked, for example. Looks like Diggs may be the guy, and he would be a good signing.
I could go on, but if we keep grabbing players for depth, that’s fine. It’s not great, just…fine. It would be nice to fill one starting hole in free agency, because the draft can only do so much for us. If we need a QB, DT, DE, OLB, TE…etc…we should try to grab one in free agency…that’s all.
I understand
I looked at the high impact aka high $$$ prospect players and don’t see any we could’ve afforded or lured here. You mentioned Kampman & I would like him, but how long until he’s ready to play? Quinn was worth a shot IMO, but who knows what the front office thinks of him. He’s not the most accurate QB and that is important. I would’ve liked to see us make a play for Boldin, but too much risk involved and the price tag was too much.
I would like two us to fill two more needs via FA: TE & OT. If Little & Hall leave we will be OK. Carriker, if we don’t trade him, could move outside which was his natural position. He could lose some weight and increase his speed. I’m sure we’ll pick one up, at least, in the draft. Maybe they’ll sign a few rookie FA’s as well. We also have to consider the lack of a CBA, and this has hurt the FA market.
Bench players play and have significant roles.
Whether it be in a rotation, spelling a starter who is winded, or filling in for injuries, they play an important part. A big reason we struggled so much last year was because our starters weren’t playing. They were hurt and the replacements (whom I’m assuming you are confusing with our actual starters) were bad.
Now, we have (or are building) some competence for the bench in the terms of guys who can step in and not be a major weakness.
