Offensive Line
With the new addition of Hank Fraley and the resigning of Mark Setterstrom our interior line is looking good. Although it isn't very high on this year's list of improvements, RT is going to need to be addressed sometime because while goldberg wasn't awful he wasn't amazing either. We could have greco play outside since he didn't look too bad at LT filling in for Barron against the 49ers. But this would essentially be the same thing as having goldberg play RT. Another route would be to draft someone. A few options in this years draft include:
Trent Williams
Bruce Campbell
Ciron Black
Jared Veldheer
I get a feeling that either Trent Williams or Bruce Campbell is going to fall to us at the top of the Second. Most likely Bruce Campbell with the strange injury history. What do you guys think?

I would imagine the earliest they would look to address the OT position would be in the 3rd Rd just because of the BPA and team need. The Rams have Barron still, along with Goldberg and Greco that can play some tackle and a development in Phil Trautwein. With so many other positions lacking both depth and talent (DE, OLB, TE, etc) it would seem to make more sense to move down the board and gather extra picks than to take a tackle early.
Also I doubt that Cambell or Williams fall just because there are too many teams desperate for LT help that teams tend to reach. Especially with both players having great off-seasons, those are names I just can’t see falling that far. Anthony Davis is a player that has been falling with weight and work ethic concerns but even he is probably a 1st Rd lock. Charles Johnson is a fringe prospect that might be there in the 2nd but he doesn’t grade out well in our system and will probably go in the late 1st anyways.
Even if an OT falls to us in the 2nd, it probably makes it easier to trade the pick with a team desperate for OT help. Moving down might make Veldheer possible depending how far we move. But even then with so many other team needs, its hard to justify taking a raw prospect when we need individuals that can contribute immediately at other positions. A mid to late round prospect makes more sense and names I like are Zane Beadles, Jason Fox, Chris Scott, Tony Washington, and Sam Young who should all be available in the 4-7 rd range. These are guys that would hopefully not be forced to play in 2010 (unless they amazingly beat everyone out) but could challenge for playing time in 2011 when Barron becomes expendable.
I actually like a guy like
Jason Fox out of Miami in the 4th-5th round range. Kid has some serious talent, just needs some refinement.
I read somewhere he has some serious injury history
Per fas et nefas - Latin translation="By Any Means Necessary"
Left knee
Resulted in him missing the last couple games of the season and Combine drills. Should be ready for his Pro Day (Mar 26th) though. He was a 4 year starter that played on both sides but probably lacks the footwork for LT in the NFL. I like his size and he has some room to add bulk. But definately needs to have the knee check out and there was mention of a possible irregular heartbeat but that seems to be because of an illness.
What we really need is a right tackle,
so dropping down a ways could work out well. I agree it just doesn’t seem logical for us to take an OT real high in the draft.
The line is looking better...
…..we just need to make sure we stay healthy. Hopefully Jason Smith will rebound from the concussions he sustained last year. I was thinking we would need to draft some interior line depth but with Jason Brown, Jacob Bell, Richard Greco, Mark Setterstrom, Hank Fraley and Adam Goldberg on board, it’s starting to come together. I do think we need a tackle. Im hoping that Jared Veldheer or Roger Saffold would drop to us in the 4th round. If not, Jason Fox and or Kyle Calloway should be there for the taking. I agree, I don’t want us drafting offensive line any earlier than the 4th round. Too much talent at other positions available.
Campbell had "minor" brain surgery in 2008 to relieve swelling
Football players are a little crazy.
The blind stares of a million pairs of eyes, lookin hard but won't realize, that they'll never see the C. And when I'm rollin by, you can't see me!
I have some minor medical knowledge that may be of interest here.
Neurosurgery is never minor. Swelling of the brain due to trauma, stroke, infection, etc. can be swiftly fatal. A swelling brain literally crushes itself to death against the hard 1/4" thick cranium. If significant damage in done to the medulla (or brain stem), thalamus, or hypothalamus, death is all but certain. If damage is limited to the cerebral cortex the results can range from loss of motor functions, memory, speech, impaired eyesight, etc. all the way to a chronic vegetative condition. And while a concussion may not sound too bad, it’s basically a bruise to the outer brain matter. If significant blood builds up between the skull and cerebrum, that’s called an epidural hematoma. Again, the pressure on the brain is the maimer or killer, if not relieved quickly. We don’t even want to discuss subdural hematoma.
I think it goes without saying brain surgery isn't minor
I put it in quotes because I read it a couple of places and thought it ludicrous. Sarcasm, if you will.
They actually don’t say it was from a concussion. It could have been your every day run of the mill Encephalitis. (yes, sarcasm rears its ugly head once again)
Here’s one page it was on, and they just so happen to compare him to Alex Barron.
Here’s another from Scouts Inc.
