Reading Ram's 4 round Mock Draft
Ok so here is my first mock as we roll through the pro days! Perhaps a bit of wishful thinking here but I think some suprising players will drop a bit due to the depth of players in this draft.
Enjoy!
1. St. Louis Rams
Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
Sam Bradford has passed this medical check with "flying colors" http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Sam_Bradford/821229 or so he says and if the truth was otherwise I am sure it would be front page news.
The Rams have been preparing their lines and building inside out for the last two years. While this project still has a few pieces to put in place hey are close and they are staring a franchise QB right in the face. There is a strong and reasonable concern about Bradford's arm but the fact is that the shoulder surgery is something that will make the shoulder stronger by virture of how the surgery works.
At his proday Bradford will be asked to throw all of the NFL routes that he will be expected to throw once he is drafted. If he can do this and do it well on his Pro day then he is the pick at number 1.
While many folks are advocating a later round pick or waiting until next year there is a serious concern that neiter will actually happen. This is the chance for the Rams to take a big step in their rebuilding proces. While there is no such thing as a "sure thing" this is about as close as they will get for a very long time.
I will go with a very respected players personnal evaluators summary of Bradford being a "Better prospect then Peyton Manning" coming out. Peyton had many of the same knocks on him coming out and frankly no one looking back is saying "man I wish we would have had a franchise DT to take over Peyton"!!
Links for Bradford:
Gil Brandt "When I see him today versus Manning in 1998," Brandt said, "he looks like a better prospect."

Round 2:
Saint Louis Rams:
Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas, 6-4/255
Kindle suprisingly slips to the second round in a James L. fashion the Rams get another great second round LB. Kindle has a great ability to rush the passer and is sound in pass coverage. He can be an upgrade at SAM or very possibly project to WILL LB in the 4-3 defense.
Round 3:
Saint Louis Rams:
Tyson Alualu, DT, California
Defensive tackle needs some depth and additional talent. This DT will help in both the run game and he can be explosive in the pass rush. This will be a great addition to the Rams D line.
Round 4:
Saint Louis Rams:
Austen Lane: DE, Murray State
The Rams have serious holes with the likely departure of Little and Hall this is a strong prospect at DE that fits well in the 4-3 defense and will compliment the line playing across from Chris long very nicely!

Nice, but...
No to Bradford. I’d rather take Suh in the 1st and a TE/DE/OT in the third.
yeah not bad
i like that it is realistic.
i’m sick of these mock drafts where we somehow get Suh in the 1st and Weatherspoon in the second
Not bad,
I like the defensive picks. There are positions that need attention sooner rather than later, like TE. I’d like to see us get one in the 3rd. We’re also going to have to acquire another OLB either FA or later in the draft.
Looks do-able but....
…I would rather see us take Suh with the first overall pick. I just love the fact that any stud that slips out of any round into the next, we will have the first crack at him all the way through the draft! I really hope that we take advantage.
Looks like it's going to be a QB with the 1st pick.
Personally, I’d pick Suh to team up with Long. But then again the Ram offense is ranked dead last in the NFL. And, Feeley won’t help that problem. We really need an OLB with the 2nd pick so JL won’t be by himself back there. Paris Lenon was no loss. Neither was Ruvell Martin. And, I’d quickly deal Adam Carriker before he ends up like Tye Hill. A few smart moves could quickly improve both the offense and defense.
That's not bad
But I’m not sure its possible to guess past the second round. Who thought the Rams were even thinking about Bradley Fletcher in the third last year. They fall in love with guys and make sure they get them by taking them perhaps too early. So don’t be surprised if by the 4th round we get someone you weren’t expecting at all. 3rd round might be predictable or a somewhat well-known player.
Fletcher in the 3rd wasn't who we were going to take there.
The Rams were going to take Shonn Greene, but the Jets traded up and grabbed him just before us.
That would have been nice
But how did the Jets know that we wanted him if we keep all our draft plans secret?
One of the great mysteries of the universe.
Maybe they were worried about all the teams between them and the top of the round, and really, really wanted him, so they decided to make the jump.
Fight the urge...don't mention bay bay!
Damn it!

I try
But seriously don’t most people project Sergio kindle as an 3-4 olb and alualu as a 3-4 DE. Just because you are getting good value doesn’t mean you should draft out of position players. If it is Bradford with the first pick I would try to get a WR or a pass catching TE to help him and it doesn’t have to be bay bay. If Damian Williams is there I would be fine with him as well even though he doesn’t project as a #1 WR. As far as late round DT prospects go I would go with Lamarr Huston

I completely agree, although my emphasis would be on the TE simply because I believe the Wides are ready to show up
I think the Wides will be far and away better than last year. Now if I’m wrong, drafting a Wide makes perfect sense. But let’s look at the WR corp vs. the TE troops….honestly, which one has more potential? My opinion it’s the Wides going away. The TE’s are (IMHO) less than starting material for most teams, at least as far as being recievers goes. I keep reminding guys how important a 6’6" guy with great hands would be on 3rd and 5 for a young QB.
Also agree that out of positon players are always less attractive than natural fits.

Habte E and Coach....
….your responses are the two most sensible ones on this post. I agree that Kindle works in a 3-4 scheme but I don’t think he will be there at #33 anyway. I agree that we don’t need a wide receiver either. Too much young talent that is (hopefully) coming back healthy and ready to mesh and emerge. Lamarr Houston is one of the defensive tackles on my board that I would hope we can bring in if we go with Bradford first overall.
Quick question: Regardless of whether or not we take a QB or DT in the first round, If we have Golden Tate, Jermaine Gresham, Anthony Davis, Everson Griffen, Sean Weatherspoon and Taylor Mays on the board at #33, who do you take?
Gresham w/out a doubt.
The quality of the TE class is too small to pass on him. WR is not a need for us, as long as they can stay healthy. D side, Spags can find the right guys like he did in NY in the later rounds.
Gresham will score points for us and will have to be accounted for. Another O weapon in the 2nd would be spectacular.
I don't think we have enough weapons for bradford to succeed in st. Louis
I do like Gresham if we get Bradford so they get that connection going but those knees have to be making devaney think twice. The one thing I know for sure is that we definetly don’t have a WR corp with enough talent to make Bradford successful. I would highly consider trading the 33rd and a 4th for marshall

Maybe Hernandez from FL
He needs to learn to block to be more complete, but I’ll take a good pass catching TE like him.
I think the WR’s will show more ‘talent’ this year. My only concern is Robinson, he’s shown promise, but that injury bug has really liked him.
Agree

Kindle and Alu Alu
Kindle said that he would have no problem playing OLB in a 4-3. He said that he played that spot for 2 years at Texas and it would not be much of a change.
Alu Alu on the other hand played at Cal which meant easy access to many games. He is a damn good pass rusher (gets low and drives well, also has the explosion for a big boy), however he is a true DE in a 3-4 system. He would be taking on a new transition to a 4-3.
Alualu would be great
I like Bradford with the first pick.
I think you can get sergio kindle in the 5th…o i mean Jason Worilds. I’d be happy with a more prototypical weak side guy here thou like Navorro Bowman or Daryl Washington but it looks good.
I’d love tyson alualu there but i think he’ll be gone, but there is depth at DT this year and I think you can get someone to replace him pretty easily.
I haven’t heard much on this Austen Lane guy but I like his size. If he is favored by the personnel guys I’d say grab him because we definitely need a DE but a CB/LB/TE could be helpful here too.
