Browns trying to trade Quinn?

Adam Shefter just tweeted "QB Derek Anderson out of Cleveland, and he might not be alone. Browns have discussed dealing QB Brady Quinn with other teams."

A couple of guys have asked about getting Quinn.  If Shefter is right, he could be on his way to a new team soon.

I thought he might be worth a look, but then again I have to remember he had trouble beating out Derek Anderson.

True

I suppose it all depends on if the Browns plan on trading Brady Quinn or simply releasing him. If they do plan on trading him what is the asking price? If the price is reasonable then I would say that it has to be considered.

I think they can get something for him

not what they spent on him of course. But a young QB like that, especially a 1st rounder of just a couple years ago, has to look attractive to a few teams. It probably depends on how many teams are interested, but I don’t think they can get a 3rd rounder. Maybe I’m wrong.

No I agree

I’m sure that there will be other suitors, he is young and potential upside, and as far as the pick that we would give up is a 4th to high for him? Obviously there is no way that they are getting our 3rd but is even our 4th too high?

by djbacc on Mar 10, 2010 1:48 PM CST up reply actions

I haven't seen him play much, but I would think a 3rd is too high

I don’t know about 4th either. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s right about where his market is. Someone may even offer a 3rd, but I don’t think I’d want the Rams to do that….that’s almost like a second round pick when you’re at the very top of the round….pretty high for a guy who hasn’t played much.

What did Matt Cassell bring? a 4th?

by CoachConnors on Mar 10, 2010 3:28 PM CST up reply actions

Well

Cassell was also packaged in a trade with Mike Vrabel for a 2nd rounder so it would be hard to compare the two especially given Cassell’s success at the time, though he did have better talent around them.
Here is the link with the trade details.

I musta been thinking of a different Pats trade

They did 2 with the Raiders for 4th rounders, I must’ve had that on the brain.
Yeah I agree it’d be tough to compare, especially when you toss in a Vrabel.

He's worth our 4th IMO

Would we rather have Quinn or Clausen?

by RamsFan1979 on Mar 10, 2010 4:20 PM CST reply actions

Good question

I’d say Clausen. I may be in the minority on that, though

by CoachConnors on Mar 10, 2010 4:47 PM CST up reply actions

haha...

I like what I see from Quinn, but like you, I’d rather gamble on Clausen to see what he has. I believe he could do no worse IMO, so the only direction is up. If we picked up Quinn, I’d be happy w/that too.

How many years was Quinn under Weis?

I’m not sure, I know that Weis didn’t recruit Quinn but it would be interesting to see a comparison of stats both before and after Weis’s arrival at South Bend.

by djbacc on Mar 10, 2010 5:02 PM CST reply actions

Weis was hired after the 2004 season and Clausen graduated HS in 2007

Wouldn’t that mean Clausen was recruited by Weis?
In any event, Clausen spent 3 years with him.

What value would his high school stats have for you?

by CoachConnors on Mar 10, 2010 5:21 PM CST up reply actions

Where in djbacc's post do you read Clausen?

Only five players have averaged 25 and 10 in their playoff careers. One of them, Dirk Nowitzki.

Let's talk Quinn instead, Lol

Please excuse the idiocy.
I believe Quinn played 2004 before Weis got there, and 2005-06 with him. Yards and TD’s went way up, while interceptions went down.

If you can get him for a 5th rounder, I say go for it. A fourth rounder, maybe, but if you do that, then you clearly have him as your starter, and does anyone really think he is a NFL caliber starter?

(I say so because you then have Null, Feeley, and Quinn on your roster)

As much as we need to improve our QB position

Maybe we need to address our QB coach. I don’t claim to know anything about him other than what I’ve read here, but what do you guys think? Maybe I should post on it. I have nothing to offer in the way of info though.

by dbcouver on Mar 11, 2010 2:53 PM CST reply actions

The problem with him is....

the guy supposedly just has terrible accuracy issues. I haven’t seen him play but for the Browns to give up fairly quickly on him, those problems must be pretty bad and something they deem uncorrectable. Of course, accuracy is even more important in a West Coast Offense.

by cuseguy on Mar 12, 2010 5:08 PM CST reply actions

well aware of that

…but his value to teams that do is nil and that affects the market value of the guy

Looks like if Delhome signs w/the Browns Quinn is gone.

Sign Quinn to an incentive laden contract, cut Bulger, draft Suh, and let’s move on.

by RamsFan1979 on Mar 13, 2010 4:08 PM CST reply actions

Why would we need Quinn?

It looks like Bradford is going to be our 1st pick and Feeley is the backup. Why didn’t we keep Marc Bulger as backup?

by RamChop on Mar 13, 2010 6:31 PM CST reply actions

Quinn completed just over 50% of his passes

last year and his QB rating was 67.2. Why do we want him? How is he better than Bulger, or Boller for that matter?
