The article about the Rams looking to 'old up' gives credance to why they would keep SJ39

Speaking of his days with the NYG, Spags said:

“We had some vets that were kind of the work-ethic guys that taught the younger guys how to do it,” Spagnuolo said.

“I think you really have to have a little bit of that mixture,” he said. “Now, in my opinion, you can’t just go out plucking guys out of the sky. You almost have to know that person and how they study film. I think that is huge.”

So, yeah. They had one in house and a good leader at that.

Interesting quotes form the other article about McCoy or Suh

You should read it yourself but I wanted to point out what I thought was important, in my little opinion:

Suh may not look like a natural pass rusher, but he wasn’t really asked to get upfield like McCoy in Nebraska’s “two-gap,” read-and-react system.

McCoy may look more dynamic on tape, but the results haven’t shown up in terms of production. If McCoy is such a dominating pass rusher, how is it that Suh had almost as many sacks this past season (12) as McCoy had in his entire college career (14)?

McCoy had six sacks in ’09. What about that sack discrepancy?

“I mean, (Suh’s) Texas game was great,” McCoy said. “The guy had like five sacks in one game. That helps. Up until then, the sack number, we were pretty much neck and neck. I don’t know, he wanted to win the Big 12 championship, so he went out there and dominated.”

So clearly you could take that two ways. Either Suh loaded up on one game and the difference between them isn’t that great, or Suh has the ability to be absolutely dominating when it really matters (“Big Game”, anyone?).

For me, it’s the latter. Why McCoy never got his ire up enough to have a monster game, I don’t know. Maybe it takes a championship on the line. But the fact that Suh proved he could do it with a championship on the line is just huge. Huge. Every true champion I have ever coached, including a couple of all american track people, were able to elevate their game when it really mattered. Its one of those things that makes you really admire their gifts.

I watched a couple of the drills at the Combine for DTs.

In my opinion Suh looked stronger and smoother than McCoy. Everything he did was fast, but under control and powerful. McCoy was off balance a little bit from time to time and seemed to be scrambling rather than in control. If I were going to choose just based on that, I would take Suh every time.

Let me also point out a post I made in January

With his combine stats and that article, it is “telling” who we should be drafting first.
