Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Enough of the Superbowl talk...

I've been reading this blog for the past year (since right before the draft before the 2009 season), and i tip my cap to Vanram, 3k, ram_rod, and all the others who keep me in the loop with up-to-date news about our Rams. Well done fellas...

Anywho, i found this tidbit from Walterfootball.com very interesting:

St. Louis Rams: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
2010 NFL Mock Draft selection (as of 1/22/10): Jimmy Clausen, QB

If I had to rank the three receivers right now, it would be A.J. Green, Michael Floyd and Julio Jones (drops plagued his 2009 season). However, if the Rams draft Jimmy Clausen, and they're torn between Green, Floyd and Jones, I'm sure they'd lean toward Floyd because of the familiarity between he and Clausen.

If St. Louis opts to draft Ndamukong Suh, this selection would be Jake Locker. So, why don't the Rams take Suh and wait for Locker? Because there's no guarantee they'll be drafting No. 1 again. What if Suh helps them win five games next year? At 5-11, they'll be drafting seventh or eight, and like the Browns and Bills this year, they'll be out of the running for a top quarterback. And thus, the Rams would be screwed for the next five years or more.

This quote is a mock of our 2011 first round selection, updated 1-22-10. Walterfootball.com is basically saying if we pick Suh, we'll have to wait until the next draft to find our QB. FA is crap this year and we're not going to find our guy if we draft Suh. I really like Suh, but this opened my eyes to other possibilities. What do you think?

There are some viable candidates

who could see their stock rise to be top 10 QB picks next season. I’m not sure it wouldn’t be a bad thing to take Suh and then one of the top 4 receivers next year (the three listed above and Jonathan Baldwin of Pitt)

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

I agree

I like Locker (could help that I’m from Seattle) but if it just isn’t feasible next year, I don’t see ANY reason why the Rams would be “screwed.”

But of course, stranger things have happened.

Baldwin

is the guy I’m hoping for next year.

This is what I'm saying...

We get Clausen now, then hope to help our receiving corps next year.

Then what is your approach to the D-line?

2nd round pick in this year’s draft? Free agency? Leonard Little is getting old fast, and I’m not very optimistic about our DT depth chart. Adding someone at SLB would help out the D-line, but I’m thinking that’s a viable target for that 2nd round pick I mentioned. I find myself getting more and more enamored with a defense-heavy draft each day.

Especially with the weak QB class this year

Next years QBs class will provide the franchise choice we need. Thats why I think Suh or trade. I’d like some O-line depth, a TE, maybe a big WR, and a b/u RB, but place all those needs behind DT, OLB, and possibly DE, depending on BPA.

As far as I’m concerned getting a QB of the future before our line is stronger would be a mistake. I don’t want to obtain a crash test dummy for a year or 2.

I have a hard time believing what walterfootball.com has to say.

They refer to Michael Vick as QB Dog Killer. You must be pretty insecure if you can’t call a guy by his name.

On the court they call me The Cloud, because I make it rain. They also call me Money, because I drop dimes.
