Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Mel Kiper just moved Sam Bradford ahead of Jimmy Clausen on his big board. Bradford went from #5 to #4 and Clausen dropped from 4th to 7th. Kiper says, "Based on what I'm hearing regarding the health of his shoulder, I've moved Sam Bradford ahead of Jimmy Clausen. That's not a huge surprise, because I've been saying it since Bradford was hurt -- this is a guy who was a potential No. 1 pick last year, and a physical issue that, from all indications, simply won't detract at all from what Bradford can do."

I'm glad his shoulder is better

I think his upside makes him far better than Clausen. I know Clausen has worked in a pro-set, but I’m beginning to think there may be something to what Andy Rose said in regards to Clausen being closer to his ceiling now, than Bradford. Of course Bradfords ceiling isn’t real clear because of his year off. I think the quicker decision maker should go first, the other stuff is probably even enough.

Don't forget the competition factor

Bradford played in the Big XII (it isn’t home to the best defenses) but Clausen played against a bunch of down-trodden opponents (Navy, Washington, Purdue, Michigan, etc.).

I think

it’s the first line of Chapter 1.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Bradford's accuracy is unreal

he needs a bit more meat on his bones if he wants to play behind our O-line though

Fictional counterparts-

Clausen: Joe Kane from “The Program”
Bradford: Shane Falco from “The Replacements”

So who do you want? An alcoholic egomaniac, or a gunshy headcase? :)

Jeeez, draft. Just get here already.

Can we just toss everyone else off the board?

Not named Suh or Bradford. I’d love go put Dez Bryant there, but nay. It’s going to be Suh or Bradford when the time comes. I still want Suh, but I don’t think we can go wrong with Sam.

My ideal fantasy scenario includes a trade of Alex Barron to Detroit for their #2 Overall Pick and Calvin Johnson. Yes, I fantasize of perverted, distasteful grand theft, but if the NBA can allow Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol (zing!), then I can at least dream right? Yes?

Good. Don’t wake me.

Go Rams!

if spags didnt take Desean Jackson because they thought he had character issues

i hear Jimmy is a bit of an asshole himself. just something to keep in mind

linehan drafted

Avery instead of jackson not spags but i see your point it’s interesting to see how spags and the front office approach the four pillar issue this off season

yeah i mean Phillip Rivers is a douche

and he is a top 5 QB

Jay Cutler is a punk, and he ain’t too bad either

and Devaney did say they would ease up on the 4 pillars a bit this offseason

by jb22 on Feb 4, 2010 10:54 PM CST up reply actions

Phillip Rivers isn't a douche

he’s awesome. He does like to yell at everyone on the field, but he’s still awesome. Jimmy Clausen just looks like the prototypical douchebag, and I’d just rather have Bradford or nobody. If this QB class was one QB deeper Clausen would probably be a 2nd round pick. Being the best in the class shouldn’t automatically make you a top 10 pick, but it usually does.

by Carneros on Feb 4, 2010 10:58 PM CST up reply actions

I have all the respect in the world for Phillip River's talent, don't get me wrong

but the way he just (unnecessarily) yells and talks s*** to absolutely everyone on the other team does kind of catch your attention. And i know that everyone in this league talks s***, but a lot of defensive players have voiced their displeasure specifically with Phillip Rivers.

by jb22 on Feb 4, 2010 11:05 PM CST up reply actions

I like it

the defensive guys do it all the time, why shouldn’t a QB be able to do it? He’s putting a target on his own back and handles it. That said, he could tone it down a little.

isn’t a punk, he’s a school-boy bitch

I just posted something about drafting bradford

only to see the lobbying continue. You may be wearing me down 3k…but I want value if make the move.

by CaliRamMan on Feb 4, 2010 9:27 PM CST reply actions

how can you say that his injuries wont have any affect

on what he can do? are you saying his shoulder will be the what it was before the 2 injuries? and what about the fact that he may be injury prone before he even takes an NFL snap……………a lot of question marks for a possible #1 overall pick…….a lot of money for someone who has injured the same shoulder twice……..just my opinion

If the Rams keep the 1st overall pick (which I think is highly unlikely), my money says that they will start negotiating with Suh, McCoy, and Bradford prior to the draft to see who will be the easiest to sign. Thats going to be the determining factor as far as who goes #1. I can see the Bucs (who want Suh), the Redskins (who want Bradford), and the Browns (who may also go after Bradford) making deals with the Rams to trade-down. I’ve alway thought that Bradford was the 1st pick in the draft, but lately Suh’s value has been too much to ignore. Bradfords going to be a great QB in the NFL, I just hope the Rams don’t let the hype machine influence who they take. Mario Williams wasn’t the consensus pick a few years ago (Reggie Bush was), the Texans made the right choice by taking him #1 overall.

Coming out for the Draft is one thing...

getting invited to the combine is another. You will find the ‘complete’ invitation list here (in alphabetical order) and his name isn’t on it.
