Random Ramsdom, 2/27: First pick roulette & notes from the Combine
It's a meaty edition of Random Ramsdom with enough link sausage to keep you satisfied as you avoid a trip outside and watch the Combine unfold before your very eyes. Speaking of eyes, all of them are on the St. Louis Rams watching to see what GM Billy Devaney will do with the first overall pick. Jumping right in...
Rams seem to be sold on taking Sam Bradford - The OK paper does a nice job getting between the lines on Devaney's experience with drafting QBs and looking at the intangibles with regards to Sam Bradford.
St. Louis Rams not tipping hand on Sam Bradford-or-DTs quandary - SI.coms's Don Banks adds to the discussion, noting that the Rams feel all four of their potential top picks are viewed as difference making players. He also adds fuel to the notion that the stakes are high for front office jobs at Rams Park based on this draft.
Bradford or Clausen? - All the talk has focused on Bradford lately, but there are still plenty of draftniks out there who like Clausen just as much. Who do you prefer?
Who can afford our #1? - A look at which team might have the ability to offer Devaney a trade for the first pick.
Washington to tender RFA QB Campbell - Coach Mike Shanahan said that the Washington Redskins plan to tender Jason Campbell, their starting quarterback for the last 31/2 seasons, before free agency begins on March 5. I still think it's unlikely they'll trade him, but stay tuned.
The Rams will meet with Syracuse WR Mike Williams - Mike Williams is putting his past, the fact that he left the team after clashing with coach Doug Marrone...Williams wasn't the only one though.
WR Dez Bryant not working out - OK State WR De Bryant will not be working out at the Combine thanks to his hamstring.
WR breakdown - Here's a pretty good break down of what to look for and who to watch when the WRs work out this weekend. Draft boards will change!
TE Hernandez out for Combine workouts - The Florida TE "tweaked" his back and will not work out until his school Pro Day on March 17. He'll need the luck of the Irish to overcome concerns about his 6'2" height.
Arkansas OG Petrus is a bench press machine - The Hogs' OL tied a Combine record with 45 reps of 225 lbs. Oakland's next starting guard?
Rams deal is critical to the NFL - The sale of the Rams as a barometer of the league's health...

I saw that too.
Did you see Bruce Campbell run a 4.78? Insane.

No way
He’s too tiny to go that high. If they were picking a relay team, then yeah.

Why in the world
are we showing our hand? I mean, we should make the world believe we’re drafting SUH to get people to step forward that want him.
So we MAY just flat out take Bradford versus trading with Tampa or Detroit or someone else?
Confusing…

We're not.
We’re speaking to everyone. It’s all jibirish. Devaney spoke to everyone’s agent, I guarantee it.

According to Adam Schefter
Devaney hasn’t spoken to anyone’s agents at all. He doesn’t need to…
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Seriously? Well that kinda kills Shefter's credibility for me then
Not that I was giving him much to begin with

Devaney has already said publicly
he has spoken to Bradford’s agent to ask about his rehab progress. Schefter has no clue what is going on.
And I don’t think the Rams are tipping their hands. They keep saying there are four guys they are considering, and they don’t go any further than that. Anything that is reported to make it look like we are leaning one way or the other is made up out of thin air.
I think that's a good assessment of the Rams' FO right now
