Bradford or Clausen?

I know there are a lot people who want neither Bradford nor Clausen, and think we should take Suh, but I know that there is a mixed opinion on which quarterback everyone would take if we were to take one.  So I'm curious to know which QB is preferred among the TST community.  So assuming we are using our #1 overall pick on a QB and assuming someone really steps up at the combine I don't think anyone else is in the consideration for the #1 overall pick at the QB position, who would you take Bradford or Clausen?

I'm Clausen over Bradford

Like that he was under center, and learned how to…here we go again….

Read the defense, while feeling the rush, during the dropback.

Think that’s not a big deal? Ask Vince Young who was a college spread offense guy trying to make the switch to unde center, against compeition at a speed he never imagined, and for some reason was considered to be Tennessee’s savior when he was drafted.

Is this Vince Young wh was the Rookie of the year?

OR the the guy that during the 2006 season led the Tennessee Titans to eight wins including six straight wins. He had a record of 8–5 as a starter. Of the wins, four of them were fourth quarter comebacks, including three straight fourth quarter comebacks. Even though he wigged out, he turned out to work out for them.

The Vince Young that benefitted from one of the best Defenses in the whole NFL but

is only a game and a half over .500 and got benched. Had one of the best RB’s in the game too. I think he is one of the most over-rated players in many years.

Bradford's has under center experience as well

Bradford took a large share of snaps under center in 2007 and had a rather decent season. I like his footwork dropping back, setting and throwing that year looking back at tape. Also his stats for that year demonstrate an ability to read the defense even when under center. My biggest concern, other than medically being 100%, is whether he can stand in there and make the throw under pressure and not worry about the big hit. That pass rush will be much faster and there will be a curve in adjusting from the spread but I do not think it is as steep for Bradford as opposed to some other spread QBs in this draft because of his prior experience.
Clausen does have the pro style experience but I am not as sold on his decision making and I think his accuracy is a little overrated. I thought he put the ball up for grabs too often and has too many balls float on him. The attitude factor is there but is really hard to have any real insight there, as we must rely on hearsay for the most part and I have faith that Billy and Spags can determine that much better than me. Just watching tape of them both side by side I am not as sold on Clausen yet.
I think they both are decent prospects that are going to be nitpicked and debated endlessly and ultimately it becomes a matter of personal preference on QB style. Overall I think either prospect is an upgrade to our roster and can be developed into a starter in this league. While I don’t rate either prospect at the top of my draft board, I think the Rams are completely justified in investing in either QB if they rate them as a Top 5 pick. Our offense must improve to keep our defense off the field. Just giving our defense time to rest by not going 3 and out will improve that defense overall. I love Suh and Berry but neither would have as great an impact on our entire team as a QB would, no matter how hard it is to say that.

I have read it...

and am not arguing with Joyner’s statistics. However I think those stats do not account for the number of times that Clausen missed check downs in favor of heaving a ball down the field. Sure it wasn’t a turnover (or near-turnover) but there were too many times where the ND offense stalled out because of long shots down the field when an open back or tight end was able to take the check down pass. Of course if my defense was as bad as ND’s then I would probably be looking for TDs every play too.
Regardless though Clausen has definately progressed in his decision making compared to the year prior which shows me he is coachable. I believe he is a top QB prospect but I still prefer Bradford overall for the Rams. I doubt Clausen falls out of the Top 6 and would not be completely shocked if Pete Carroll traded up with the Lions in order to take Clausen at 2 overall.

I'm interested in where you found the number of times he supposedly missed check downs

Was that published somehwere I can go have a look see? I’m very interested in stuff like that, not just for Clausen,

I wish

I wish I had a secondary source of that information along with many others but have not found anything that in depth on the web, for free at least. My missed check downs comment is a personal observation based on watching Clausen all season. I try to make notes of various prospects that I am able to watch alot of games on during the season and that is just one of my personal obersvations. You can watch him make his progressions and yet still seem to just throw one up.If you can find a full ND game and have the time, its worth watching for and I would love to hear what you think. Always nice to hear new things and then go back looking for them on tape, or is that weird?

As the scout Daniel Jeramiah said in another post here,

don’t confuse completion percentage with accuracy. Many of Clausen’s completions were thrown to the wrong shoulder of the receiver, but he caught it anyway. In the NFL if you throw it to the wrong shoulder the chances are very good the ball will either be knocked down or picked off. You have to throw it where only the receiver can reach it. This is one reason why some are saying Bradford is a more accurate passer than Clausen. It’s definitely something to consider.

The site's been buggy. And the "search" didn't work yesterday either

I’m sure it’s the coding behind the page. I haven’t heard SB mention it, but they must know..

I would prefer that we trade down first...

…before considering using the number one pick on a QB. But if I had my choice of the two, I would take Clausen. The pro-style offense experience and stats speak volumes.

And yes Coach, the italics are bugging me too.

I cannnot stand looking at Clausens face

I heard somewhere also that he wears a bracelet with WWJD on it. What Would Jimmy Do! I just don’t like a lot of things about this kid. Sure he had some great numbers on the field this past season, but he would not be my choice.

Hold Up.

Notre Dame is a Jesuit University. It’s What Would Jesus Do.

Besides being off topic for football, that’s just not cool. If he wants to wear his religious affirmation on his wrist, you should stay away from denigrating that. I don’t get offended at a lot of stuff, but adulterating the WWJD thing is encroaching on offensive and is as off topic as the Rush Limbaugh conversation. Good for him that he has a positive reminder about where his priorities should be in life.

Now let’s talk football. I’m sure you have something to say about football.

Not for me.

Only five players have averaged 25 and 10 in their playoff careers. One of them, Dirk Nowitzki.
