ESPN's Adam Schefter says Rams will pick Bradford at #1
It's not a trade rumor, but it's a juicy tidbit nonetheless. Adam Schefter of ESPN told local sports talk radio, ESPN 101, that the St. Louis Rams will draft QB Sam Bradford with their first overall pick.
Let me say this, I have not spoken to the Rams about it at all. I don't need to. I have spoken to enough other people and have heard enough other things that tell me there is no way the St. Louis Rams will not wind up taking Sam Bradford.
It's very plausible, but still has to be treated like a rumor. In fact, if someone from a non-mainstream media site posted this it would be treated exactly like that.

Although
I do believe this is the route the rams will take, I wish I could get paid for just spouting what I think some team will do.
I just
dont see how we can pass on a franchise QB. Our need for a future at QB outweighs our need for a new DT. We’ll take a QB early in the first.
LOL
tell that to the teams who will Draft Bradford, Clausen, McCoy, or any other QB in the draft with a Rd1 or Rd2 pick. By saying we wait for Mallet or Locker everyone says next year is allready a wasted effort and we’ll lose another 10 games at least to be in a place to draft them. So much for that DT making a huge difference. LOL that line of thought is hilarious.
I didn't say we were waiting for anybody next year-
Bradford, Clausen, McCoy, or any other QB in the draft won’t make an iota of difference in his rookie year. None of them are better than Bulger or Reilly in their 1st year, and maybe not even in their 2nd or 3rd year. So why would it make a 10 loss season for the Rams if we don’t draft them this year? We need to draft for the big D first, WR second, secondary third.
I totally disagree
do the names Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco mean anything to anyone? QBs can be effective in their rookie year.
and what about stafford and josh freeman 1st. rd last year?
flacco and ryan had a nice 1st. year by the greatest accomplishment of they’re team same thing for sanchez
I think Adam Schefter will continue to make picks
I haven’t spoken with him about this, but I’ve spoken to my colleagues who have extensive experience in this arena, and it’s all but guaranteed that Schefter will make more NFL draft predictions.

I enjoyed the "no way" "not" double negitive used in that sentence
Makes it seem like he doesn’t have a clue..I mean he is 3rd on my draft board #1 McShay # 2 Kiper and bronzeing it up of at # 3 Schefter
Why is patience a virtue and procrastination a sin...I mean whats wrong with patiently procrastionating?
I'd like to know who he's talked to since
I don’t think the Rams would have told anyone their plans and he hasn’t talked to the Rams. If this was leaked it may have been a strategic move by the Rams. I do think there’s a good chance we do draft Bradford still, but I have to think he’s making this up or it was part of the Rams’ plan
What a weird way to make this call
I have not spoken to the Rams about it at all. I don’t need to.
Uh, alright then.
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
I was going to quote that too.
If he haven’t spoken to them, they how the hell do you know that they will pick them? Him, John Clayton, and Peter King need to stick to reporting and stop trying to be analysts and make predictions, because they suck at it. Bears in the Super Bowl, good call Peter King, they didn’t even make the playoffs.

BIG MISTAKE
If we take Bradford over Suh, then i’m pretty well done with this team. It would be the same as if the Colts would have taken Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning. Bradford at best won’t be ready for a couple of years where as Suh would have an immediate impact on the Rams.
?
And what’s wrong with setting a team up for a decade of success?
BTW, that Manning-Leaf analogy is, uh, hmm, no. Just no.

Truth
Suh will be the piece that puts the Rams into Superbowl contention. Null is obviously a franchise QB and there’s no need to pick up a QB of the future.
"Null is obviously a franchise QB"
Yeah, can’t you see it? HE’S THE NEXT TOM BRADY!
Just kidding.

Blah, Blah, Blah - fillin' the media airspace with rubbish
Look, If rams select Bradford #1 OVERALL, then retards they are!
The theory of selecting Bradford will be due to a “trade-down” where St, Louis get extra picks.
If no “trade down”, you select the most coveted player in the draft AND trade him if you need too! If Rams have Suh’s rights, Rams have whatever they want after posturing is done. This pre-draft qb nonsense is ridiculous speak!
Nobody's going to trade for the 1st pick or the rights to Suh
The costs are just way too much, especially if a rookie cap is negotiated next year.
I would be fine with that
As long as Bradford checks out medically and can really impress the Rams at his pro day/showed what made him the preseason first pick in the nfl draft.
If a trade-down AND qb are in play, here is an option justifiable
Who did Rams make trade with?
Rams are dummies if they don’t start looking over at Russel Okung or Berry to stir the kettle.
Simply put, Rams need picks and other teams know this.
If Rams traded down to say #5 thru #10 in 1st round, then this is what needs to occur: Rams pick-up extra picks for this years draft only.
Rams would need to receive in exchange for 1st overall pick:
1. swap 1st round picks.
2. Rams get another first (if Seattle or S.F.), or
3. Rams get a few 2nd’s and 3rd’s – no f.a. players, we need fresh attitudes and a group that can grow together.
So, If Rams had a 1st high enough to select Clausen, then take him. Otherwise, man the trenches so to speak. I seriously would consider Okung or Berry #1 too! Injuries is also a factor. Suh has had 2 knee surgeries already. McCoy???
If Clausen, then, in 2nd, pick-up Golden Tate, an impact DE, and an impact OLB (3rd round if applicable).
So, no less than swapping 1sts and receiving 3 extra draft selections in 2nd or 3rd or both – this seems fair – for a trade down!
Also, just drafting Suh can help for a trade later, even minutes later. There are teams that posture and teams that follow through. Rams will Goldman Sachs the crap outa the top overall PICK!
if i had to pick one
I wouldn’t pick the Seatle or S.F. one because I couldn’t deal with Suh being in the division especially if I can avoid it and still get reasonable compensation.

Good Point
Then, I realised, past 4 may be too far if Rams are after Clausen. Seattle is looking too!
Even 4 with Washington is too far. It may be 3 or else select Suh and trade him later.
This might be pretty cool – a top overall selection selected twice! Anyhow, McCoy looks bigger than Suh in pads.

So basically we trade with
TB or Detroit. TB’s already shopping their pick around, so even tho they have an extra 2nd rndr, they obviously want more to fill their holes. Det has nothing to offer, at least no extra picks. So trading down will probably take us further down the list and out of contention for either DT & possibly QB of our choice. IMO a less than likely scenerio but anything is possible.
If they pick a QB....
he would have no protection (terrible o-line) and no one to throw to (terrible receivers). It makes no sense to draft a young QB only to have him doomed to miserable failure.
If they get a good D they don’t need as good an offense. (See Baltimore,)
Where is terrible O-line coming from?
I’ll agree that the play from our WRs last year after Robinson went down was as bad as one can expect, but to call our O-line terrible is like comparing Bradford-Suh to Manning-Leaf…

Take it for what it is.
I’ve got a bet for anyone that thinks this is the last rumor, hearsay and pump fake that we’ll be hearing in the next two months…or the next 24 hours.
Turf Show Times
John Clayton agrees
His argument makes sense. And those advocating Suh would be enlightened by his brief history of what drafting a D-lineman up top really translates into in terms of wins.
This is why the Rams would let it leak that they want Bradford
The redskins are looking to trade Jason Campbell to the Bills for Donte Whitner and a draft pick. Then in the Redskins world, they would draft Campbell with the 4th overall pick. But if the Rams want to trade out of the top spot, the best best if for them to claim to draft a player another team wants (Redskins = Bradford). This dosnt work if they say they are going to take Suh, because teams expect that, and might not target Suh. Plus many teams have Gerald McCoy rated close to Suh. So the Lions or Bucs figure they would just draft which ever player falls to them. My point is comming….
So the Rams let it leak to sources that they want Bradford. So now the Redskins will have to trade up to #1 with the Rams. Washington gives up their 4th overall, 1st rounder next year, and 3rd round this year for the 1st overall pick.
Now with the 4th pick, the Rams will be able to get 1 of the Elite players in this draft. Eric Berry, Ndamakoung Suh, Gerald McCoy, Joe Haden, Dez Bryant, Russell Okung.
The Redskins are closer to being competitive than the Rams, and St. Louis could use more picks to stockpile talent.
Just a thought from a Bengals fan

The one shortcoming of this...
is that the Rams still need a QB. Unless Campbell is included in the deal, or the Rams feel that Clauson = Bradford, then it doesn’t address one of the Rams biggest concerns. In fact, the Rams would be passing on Bradford, Suh and McCoy if they went this route and would gain a 3rd round pick and a 1st rounder next year. I don’t know how much I like that.
I don't know what thread I was on this morning
But one rant a day is enough for me on this subject. That being said, I just don’t think Bradford or Clausen are safe enough. Wrong year to need a QB, plain and simple.
Completely agree
Bradford/Clausen have far more bust potential than Suh/McCoy…Besides, is Bradford really that much better than Pike or LeFevour? I think this is up for some debate, as when Bradford was good in 2008 (the last time he played a full season), he was surrounded by much better talent than Pike or LeFevour.
by Mean Machine II on Feb 25, 2010 9:26 PM CST up reply actions
Uh, that shouldn't be a debate
Bradford is a much, much, much, much, much (maybe even 6 muches) more skilled QB than either Pike or LeFevour. Does that mean they won’t become more accomplished NFL QB’s? Not necessarily. But if I had to put numbers on it, I would give Bradford over either of them 10-1 odds of NFL success.
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. I would even say that, all skills considered
Clausen is as skilled a QB. Certainly with some QB skills he has an edge over Bradford. I bet there’s a huge difference in their ability to read the defense while feeling the rush during the dropback…at this point anyway.

If Bradford had come out last year,
the Rams might have taken him instead of Smith. He was as highly rated as Stafford. If he is healthy, I think they will feel he is a francise QB. Does that mean they will take him this year? Maybe not.
One thing to remember is that the Rams can negotiate before the draft with those who might be their first choice. If any of their agents ask for the moon, that will probably drop them out of the running. We will have to pay a bundle if we draft first, but negotiating with agents for three or four guys should keep things a little more reasonable.
Tebow
I know, I know, another Tebow fan boy is on here, talking about how Tebow is the bomb and we should draft him. Not the case really. I did however just watch the piece NFL network did on him at the combine and I have to say I was very impressed. I really think that the kid will be there in the second round and I believe we should probably take a chance on him. He seems to have done a lot of work on his throwing motion, and of course he has those intangibles. I know people are in love with Bradford, but I just don’t think he has what the Rams need. I don’t know how many games I have gone to and seen Bulger and the other QB’s absolutely lacking leadership, fire, or intensity. I think that for the draft value, Tebow is the best available from an athletic point, and a leadership point.
They will notice and they will giggle.
He is a leader, but not close to being an NFL QB right now.
On local radio the other day Devaney said Tebow is years from being a good NFL QB. His work on changing his throwing motion is good, but Devaney thinks he will forget it all when things get hot in an NFL game and go back to his college throwing motion. It will take him at least three years of concentrated work to begin to make the new motion automatic.
Reading the defense while feeling the rush during a dropback against faster competition than he has ever seen
is not as easy as it sounds. And how easy does it sound?

I just wish trade talk would go away
I would love to see us stock up some picks, but the reality says that no one wants to pay the money that #1 overall demands when this could be the last year of that happening with the incoming rookie pay scale. In the last 15 yrs how many teams have been able to trade out of the number one pic? Just guessing off the top of my head its less than 3. Its hard to do. Very hard to do. trading that 33rd pic is alot more likely.
The Rams are gonna blow it by not taking Suh.
If we let him go, I hope he winds up with the Sea Hawks so he can punish the sh*t out of us for the next decade. Somebody please, let’s remember the names Leaf, Smith and Leinart before we pick a guy with a questionable wing. It could become arthritic. Our 2007 wizardly pick of constantly injured Adam Carriker sure paid off didn’t it. Millions of $$$ down the drain. 2008 pick Chris Long is improving, but looks nothing like a 2nd overall draft pick, and 2009 catch Jason Smith maybe concussed right out of the game. Finally, let’s not forget the value we got from high picks like slug Barron, Tye Hill, Joe Klop and Brian Leonard. Also, who now thinks Keith Null was worth a 6th round pick? Let’s quit the foolishness and get Suh, an OLB and grab Mike Vick to play QB. We can’t afford to give up 450 points in 2010.
ED!
Nothing like some angry Ed to pick me up.

Didn't you pound it out for Curry last year?
Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid.
- John Wayne
Actually, I wanted Crabtree, Curry or Sanchez and NOT Smith.
I think Crabtree is better than any of our receivers and has great potential. And let’s give Curry the benefit of the doubt after one season that was so demanded by the TST crew for Chris Long. I still think the Jets were rabid over Sanchez and would’ve given us more than our money’s worth in trade for him. As far as Jason Smith goes, I think the jury’s still out. Some of the SI talking heads have already branded him a loser. And, I’m definitely worried about that skull of his…
Leaf and Leinert didn't fail because of a questionable wing
Leaf couldn’t deal with adversity. Leinert is more concerned with his next lay.
