What do you guys think of this?

When Adam Carriker was drafted, he was drafted as a defensive end and got moved to the inside. When Chris Long was drafted some draft pundits were wondering if he was an outside linebacker possiblilty. What if we were to draft Ndamukong Suh with the first overall pick and team him up with Clifton Ryan on the inside, move Carriker to defensive end and have James Hall and Victor Adeyanju man the other end position (unless we can bring in Osi Umenyoura or Julius Peppers). Move Chris Long to outside linebacker and have him work with James Laurinaitus and draft someone like Sean Weatherspoon or Brandon Spikes in the second round? Then we could draft a defensive end in the later rounds....someone like Brandon Lang or Alex Carrington? We might still be able to draft a quality quarterback in the third round (Dan Lefevour, Tony Pike?) Do you think Spags would like to work with a front seven like that? Just throwing it out there.....

Amen brother.

Can we please let the man develop as he needs to before deciding to try to teach him some foreign position. His late season play is not far behind where a realistic person would project him to be.

Interesting research

I think Spags would be elated to work with a front 7 like that, but it’s too ideal ans too many variables are in effect for something to go wrong.

Long

I don’t think that Long has the speed as on OLB in a 4-3 but he would probably be a better suited 3-4 OLB but since the rams don’t run a 3-4 I say keep him at DE jmo.

not a bad idea

i actually like that idea, but two things concern me. 1. we have to draft Suh and all indications are that the stupid idiots running the show are going to trade this pick and that would be a huge mistake as i see Suh becoming the next Reggie White. note: if the upper management does not trade the 1st pick then i retract my comment about being stupid idiots. 2. Does Spags have the intellect and balls to do something like that? Again we are talking about a team that has not done a whole lot of good things for a number of years.

The stupid idiots.....

Yes, our draft last year was terrible, we shouldn’t trust what these guys are doing at all. JL in the 2nd round…..what a bust!!! Jason Smith was performing very well until he got hit in the head, Bradley Fletcher (a much criticized draft pick) also performed very well prior to an injury. What a bunch of stupid idiots!!! I’m certain all of us “arm chair QB’s/GM’s” would probably do a much better job of scouting and recruiting than the guys that get paid to do it.

Note: Suh plays a different position than Reggie White did. Now if you are saying Suh will have the same kind of success at DT that Reggie White had at DE, that would make more sense. A comparison to Warren Sapp would be much more accurate, as Sapp and Suh play the same postion.

I’ll trust the “stupid idiots” on the decisions they make. As you said, this is a team that hasn’t done a lot of good things the last few years, last year was a good start, and I’m sure it will only continue this year. Go Rams!!

no on suhh

we have been drafting late the past two years.

take a chance on jimmy clausen we need a lil swagger on our team.

chris long was the safe choice and so was jason smith. we passsed up on sanchez and ryan

'stupid idiots' ???

Because they could do something you don’t agree w/they’re stupid idiots? I don’t agree. We have too many holes to fill & not enough draft picks or free agents we can afford [CBA, or lack there of]. Of course Suh would help our team if we drafted him, but it’s time to be realistic and hope if they don’t choose Suh they choose to draft out. It would be more a ‘stupid move’, IMO, if they took any other player but Suh w/the #1. We have to keep our options open, right?

What you have to understand is this

There will be offers for the #1 pick.

It’s a matter of value. Does someone offer a good value for the #1 pick? Oh sure, they will offer less than fair value, of course they wiill…all good negotiations start out at less than the full price they are willing to eventually pay….but the Rams should not trade away the #1 unless someone gets around to offering a good value in return. And that means who do they see going in what slots below the #1, and all that.

Making a blanket statement that they should trade away the pick, just like that, without knowing if they would be getting a good deal, is just a little foolish. Chances are someone’s best offer won’t come until draft day, so try not to lose your mind when they appear to be ready to actually use the pick on a player.

Obviously value would be the key

otherwise what’s the point of trading it away? Let’s hope our front office isn’t ‘stupid’. There has been much discussion around here regarding what our pick is worth. Many dreamers out there, but it’s all speculation, which is what makes it fun.

So what exactly would be equal value...

For the number one pick? Does anyone have access to those trade point charts?

If we get Suh

If the Rams draft Suh, they should move Carriker back to DE. That is where he belongs, and always should have played. Then keep Long opposite Carriker and the Rams have addressed two issues in one pick. If we get Suh and move Carriker I really believe that would be an easy 10-15 sack improvement on the defense right there!

by kickasskeever on Feb 22, 2010 12:55 AM CST reply actions

carriker is done

first DE gain some weight and move to DT lose weight and go back to DE

poor kid no wonder hes a bust.

3-4

I prefer a 3-4 defense over a 4-3. We have to draft Suh. When we do, we could play him as a DE in a 3-4, like a Richard Seymore type player. Carriker on the other side. Then that leaves NT. Maybe in free agency or perhaps we have a guy on the roster already that can play that position. Move Long to OLB like a Demarcus Ware type. Draft another linebacker in the second. QB in the third. I want a 3-4. But if we stay 4-3 I say we go after J Pep hard. Drat Suh. Move Long to left DE. Draft linebacker in second still. QB in third. Trade Cariker and see what we can get for him.

-1

Not a snowball’s chance, my friend.

It would be great to see Peppers as a Ram,

but it isn’t gonna happen. He wants to play for a championship team (in 2010, not 2015).
