There has been a lot of talk about the first round pick and making it count. I still haven't made up my mind but I really like Suh and at the same time I think Bradford and Clausen are both franchise QB's. But with that aside I think it might be smart to look at this draft from a larger scope.
After looking at a lot of prospects at key positions I've given my assessment on how deep the talent is at each position and whether I think starters will be available for us in each round. This doesn't take into account whether the starter will be above average to amazing, but it does look at whether I think they will start for at least 4-5 years in the NFL. So here is what I think we can get.
1st Round- starting QB/DT/anyone we want, duh
2nd Round- backup QB/WR, starting DT/DE/OLB/OL/TE/CB
3rd Round- backup QB/CB/WR, starting DT/DE/OLB/TE/ (OL maybe)
4th Round- backup QB/DT/OL/CB/TE/WR, starting DE/OLB
5th Round- backup QB/DT/OLB/CB/TE/WR, starting DE
6th on - just backups
So if I was looking to fill in a bunch of holes in this draft, I'd definitely be grabbing a QB and working my way down. But if we were trying to set a team up for a future of dominance this might not be the way to go (the economy could be a factor here). Still on the fence about the draft but after looking through everything, I think I'd be more comfortable with a QB.
