Your thoughts on Donovan McNabb...

Eagles fan here... I'm hoping that you can all take a minute to humor me for a minute.  In case you're unaware, the Philadelphia Eagles have a logjam at the QB position with what a lot of people think are 3 potential starters in Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb, and Michael Vick.  There's a rather large debate among Eagles fans on which ones to keep, and which ones to trade.  I'm a big McNabb fan, and still think he's among the best QB's in the NFL, however, I'm firmly in the "Keep Kevin Kolb, Trade McNabb Camp."  Anyway, the reason I'm here is because there is speculation that the teams that may be interested in McNabb include Minnesota, Arizona, Buffalo, Denver, Carolina, Cleveland, and of course your St. Louis Rams.

I'm planning on doing a piece on the Eagles' site regarding what fans of the above-mentioned teams think about McNabb, and if they'd be willing to part with high draft picks to get him.  Spags of course was formerly an Eagles assistant coach for 6 years, so he obviously is familiar with McNabb's work, and with the Cardinals losing Kurt Warner it's not out of the question for the Rams to potentially contend for the NFC West sooner rather than later.

You're the Rams' GM - The Eagles have just offered you a take-it-or-leave-it offer of McNabb for your 2nd round pick (33rd overall) and your 4th rounder.  Please vote on the proposed offer below, and add any comments you might have...

I've also decided not to include my reasoning for preferring Kolb over McNabb so as not to cloud your judgment...

Thanks!

I still think McNabb is an elite QB but no thanks...

having lived in philly for a few years, i realize that donovan is very respected by 31 nfl teams and their fans. unfortunately, the one city that doesn’t seem to respect is the one where he plays.

for a team like the rams that has WAY too many holes, giving up 2 picks in the first 4 rounds is too steep of a price for a qb that (while i still believe he can play at a top-tier level) really won’t help us to win yet. he just wouldn’t have enough of a supporting cast. and by the time we got the talent around him that we could make a run at something, he’d be too old and beaten to be the guy to lead us there. we need to draft guys that are gonna be around and playing solid football in 3 years when we actually have a chance to win.

so while i am a mcnabb fan and respect him as a very good qb, i’d have to pass on him for that price. i think if we don’t draft one in the first round this year, we should just get a stopgap qb for a year or two while we look elsewhere with more emphasis on the long-term.

Love McNabb

I have to agree, although I think McNabb would be fantastic and would love to see him in a Rams uniform, a 2nd and 4th would be just too much to ask for a one year rental. If he was signed for 2/3 more years and the Rams could then draft their future QB next year in Jake Locker, then maybe.

Maybe a 2nd and a future draft pick if McNabb stayed after the next year, would probably be the best I could see.

I agree the 2nd and 4th is just too much to ask.

However, I wouldn’t do it for even just the 2nd. As the other guys said, we have too many holes and can’t be giving away high draft picks for someone who wouldn’t be able to help much no matter how good he is and would be gone within a year or two – either by contract or because he is too beat up as has happened to Marc Bulger. Short term rentals are not the way to go for the Rams unless they cost us almost nothing.

McNabb

I would much rather have him than Clausen and Bradford both. To me, if he were here for a few years which was mentioned, it is a no brainer. A second and forth rounder for a potential hall of famer, are you kidding me? That is too steep of a price? I hardly think so. I really just don’t see any QB in this year’s draft ever being a franchise QB. That is exactly what he is. I think he automatically makes everyone on the offense better. Furthermore, just look at every other QB being mentioned as a possiblity for us and then honestly tell me he isn’t twice as good as them. He eliminates the ? at the most important position in football. He has proven himself year after year and you would rather get a rookie that has a lot of ?. That makes no sense. I understand that there are a lot of needs. But last time I checked, QB was one of them.

Out of Your MIND

2nd and 4th????

People. Please look at the old QB with a serious back injury and then look at the need for this team to add high round talent.

QB

What would you want to see happen at th QB position?

Someone younger, someone healthier

McNabb has a timebomb disk in his back. He’s not going to play for that much longer. The team needs young talent and can’t afford to trade the future (high draft picks) for a guy like that.

4th round

a forth rounder to me is irrelevent. Only if you are lucky you can find a really good player in the forth round. Would we really be able to upgrade from what we already have in the forth round? I don’t think so. So really to me, instead of having to draft a QB and have the ? you get a QB that is proven and only have to use a second round pick to do so. Mcnabb is a pimp.

We're going to have to disagree about the value of tbose picks

You sound as if a 4th round pick is basically a lottery ticket, and that’s pretty far from how I see it. A 2 and a 4 is outrageously overpaying for an old broken QB on a team not making a Superbowl run. The thing they need the most is a younger QB that will be throwing to Avery, Robinson and Amendola for the next 7-10 years.

If you’re thinking short term mentor for a rookie to learn from, maybe he works, but I don’t think you pay those kind of picks for that guy.

I'll bet Lefevour goes in the 4th

What about Muckleroy? Do you really think anyone agrees that the 97th pick in the draft is irrelevant?

I would be glad to give the Eagles

back their 6th rounder for McNabb, but no way do we give a 2nd and 4th for a guy who is about at the end of his string. One year of playing for the Rams would about finish him. He probably could be a good mentor for a young QB that first year, which would help, but beyond that first year I just don’t see him as being healthy enough to keep going.
