Thoughts on Chris Long?
Hey there, I'm a Dolphins fan... For a long while there was speculation the Fins would take Long with the first pick. I'm curious to know from diehard Rams fans what you think about him... I was actually hoping we'd pick him over Jake. I'm glad we have a Pro Bowl left tackle now but do you think Chris Long is developing well? I know he's got major potential but is he shaping into the #2 pick y'all thought he'd be?

He hasn't made the impact that everyone thought he would,
but over the last half of the season he played very well and looks like he will getting double digit sacks in the very near future.
I got baseball, basketball, and football. Why do I need anything else in my life?
He's definitely starting to come on.
If he keeps the improvement going in 2010, he should turn into a top notch DE. His dad didn’t really make it until his third year, and it looks like Chris might follow in Howie’s footsteps.
He is going to be a great player with the Rams...
…but he would not be a good player with the dolphins because quite simply he is a 4-3 DE not a 3-4 DE.

Long
shouldn’t have been expected to come in and change the defense right away. In actuality what DE’s really come in and make a huge impact right away? I like the improvement I’ve seen in the guy. As he matures and gains more game experience I like him to be a 2nd tier DE. Probably not a Jared Allen type(however he does have the assistance of some amazing DT’s) or Dwight Freeney, but he’ll be good.
He took. It out.
What stands out about Long is definately his motor because he always seems to be going. The win loss record or the scoreboard never affected this kid’s ability to keep playing. I really think he is coming into how own technique wise and is putting all that energy to better use. I think he has some room for improvement against the run and that is simply just playing disciplined football.
His 3rd season should be much improved statistically from an individual skill standpoint. The Rams coverage should be better as their linebackers mature and some secondary players recover from injuries. More 3rd and long situations by stopping the run early will allow Long to pin back those ears and really pick up some sack totals.
If we banned everyone who didn't agree
They woulda kicked me out years ago.
C’mon, disagree with him but Ed’s got style. He’s kind of entertaining. Who would be edpjr then?

Chris isn't far behind, also hasn't been dominant
Its tough sometimes when you go to assess a young player because their development usually doesn’t go in a straight line.
Personally, I think his late season play showed he isn’t that far behind where a 2nd-year DE should be. He’s not real big though, and hasn’t found a way to use or develop his skillset to an athletic advantage. As in, he’s smallish but not super quick either. Considering that, he could really benefit from using a wider selection of moves than he showed last year.
But like others said, he doesn’t show any quit and is starting to be more effective. I like his future with the Rams and he definitely still has ceiling left to show.
