Now how about O Line?

We need a replacement for Richie Incogito and Alex Barron will more than likely be gone after this year. With the injuries that the offensive line has sustained the past three years it wouldn't hurt to start adding some depth. I'm a big fan of Mike Iupati but somehow, I don't think he will be there for round two. How soon do we want to start drafting O Line talent? Round two? Day two?

I really like Pouncey as an interior lineman

but he will prob go somewhere around late 2nd or early 3rd. As far as OT I like a guy like Charles Brown from USC. Very athletic and strong. Moves his feet well. I see him as a late 3rd or 4th round pick. I also like Jason Fox from Miami.
The only guy I am certain we should stay away from is Ciron Black. He looked so promising as a freshman starting in the SEC, but his slowness will be punished in the NFL. Size will not disquise his difficiencies in the NFL.

Some thoughts

I do agree with Charles Brown being gifted but I think he will go much earlier than the late 3rd. Tackles tend to come off the board fast and I would not be surprised to see Brown go somewhere in the 2nd.

I am intrigued by Black coming in to play RT in the NFL. I think his stock will drop because of his lack of speed and ability to handle the speed rush of the end. But his physical tools are there and with some coaching I can seem him becoming a mauler on the right side. With that being said I would not touch him until the 5th round and I doubt he will be there that late. If he is though, I am not opposed to bringing him on the roster to compete for a spot on the right side.

Another guy that will fall, but for the opposite reason, is Sam Young out of Notre Dame. With that massive frame you would expect some bulk but he came in really light at the Senior Bowl. He lacks versatility because he could never be moved inside, his footwork is too poor to work on the left in the NFL and lacks ideal bulk currently for the right. He is a guy that I can see falling hard this year unless he has his weight up at the combine. I like the guy’s attitude for an O-linemen though and if he is available in those late 6-7 rounds than I think he can provide some depth as he tries to add weight to that frame.

I really would be surprised if the Rams used a pick on an O-lineman in the first 3 rounds this year, unless if Iupati falls out of the 1st round. Even then Iupati’s tendency to grab players wide probably scares the Rams away as visions of another penalty ridden O-lineman become prevalent.

We need to stay away from Ciron Black

…the name kind of sounds like an alcoholic beverage.
I have been watching him closely the last two years. He looked like he had lots of promise his rookie year, same in his Sophmore year. Yet the last two years, I have started to see more and more weaknesses that he tries to disquise with sheer mass and strength. The fact remains he has slow feet, slow hands, and he gets caught coming up off the snap late. He also gets caught playing too tall , allowing DEs get leverage underneath him. He will get eaten alive at the next level. I just don’t want anymore holes on our offensive line. We seem to be at capacity with those.

Agree about Iupati

I recorded the Senior Bowl and have been watching over and over. One of the broadcasters stated that Iupati was a “grabber” instead of a “puncher”. The first TD that Iupati’s team scored was nullified due to a holding penalty on him. Iupati’s stock continues to rise but I want to be cautious about him because I feel he could be another oft penalized lineman.
