Ask CSC
Hello Rams fans. I am here on behalf of CSC to ask you one question. Do you have thoughts, questions, or even anxious beliefs about this coming game with the Saints? Then do I have good news for you! Seriously speaking, our two teams play each other this Sunday in a game both teams need to win to stay in the playoff hunt (I'm sorry but I still found myself shocked to type that). If you have any questions about the Saints, please feel free to ask and I or someone much wiser will try to answer your question to the best of our ability.
To break the ice, I will ask a few questions of my own.
1. So um, Rams tied for first a year after having the #1 draft pick. Surprised?
2. I don't need to ask about Bradford, but what about other draft picks you had this past year? Are they developing nicely like Mr. B?
3. Name one player, whether it be Offense or Defense, that no one outside of St. Louis knows that we should watch out for.
4. So the Saints have had running back problems...can we have Steven Jackson? I will buy you some gumbo if you say yes.
Thanks for participating. Please rec this post to keep it up till gameday. After said day has passed, you can take back your rec, but know that I will shed a tear for every rec taken back.

Dawg.
1. Absolutely, we all expected 4-12 to be a successful season as long as Bradford kept on progressing.
2. Rodger Saffold is pass blocking like a beast and is average but improving in run blocking. Jerome Murphy is really inconsistent in coverage but is showing improvement. Mardy Gilyard has been nonexistent. Mike Hoomanawanui is awesome when healthy. Luckily, you won’t be seeing him this week because he is turning out to be a big steal provided he stays healthy. Fendi Onobun is a low risk, high reward project who hasn’t seen much playing time. Eugene Sims hasn’t done anything. George Selvie is turning out to be a good situational pass rusher. Josh Hull and Marquis Johnson are on the IR. Those are our drafted rookies. I gotta give a shoutout to Danario Alexander though, he’s had 5 knee surgeries yet still plays his ass off and has had 2 extremely good games out of his 4.
3. Craig Dahl, absolute beast and is always all over the field on defense. I chose him assuming that you’ve heard of Danny Amendola by now. Gary Gibson is another, gets no credit being next to Fred Robbins but is extremely solid in the interior.
4. Yes, I’ll take some gumbo. Absolutely not, you can’t have Steven Jackson. I’d have to kill you if you were to get him.
How does CSC view this upcoming match? A joke or taking it serious?
What are your thoughts about Sam (everyone feel free to answer, it makes me feel better)?
"I kind of stepped my swagger up. You look at the Madden game and the swagger's so low, maybe they'll bump me up. Before it was a meatball flex, so you've got to liven it up a little bit." - Animal Jr.
If anyone does not take every matchup seriously they haven’t been paying attention. Of our three losses however, all of them were due to us beating ourselves rather than the other way around (Cardinals-3 INT, 2 fumbles one of each returned for a TD. Atlanta-missed FG in OT from the…7. Browns-4 INT, 2 returned for TD). So if we can not beat ourselves, we win.
Bradford is great, as a UT fan (not diehard just because they are my state’s college team) it pains me to say that. But he is the real deal, just make sure he does not fall on his right shoulder.

I disagree on one thing here
I believe the Browns came in with a great defensive game plan and whipped our @$$
I have never seen a defense play with no down linemen and blitz from all over the place and completely confuse our offense. Then the Steelers tried that against us and we had it figured out and burnt them badly I believe we beat ourselves against the cards and the Falcons but the browns took it to us

I ain't sayin' nothin'...
…I’m just sayin’ that our head coach LOVES TO BLITZ! He’s was the Super Bowl Giants’ defensive coordinator and has brought much of the same defensive philosophy to the Rams. That’s a large (albeit KING SAM is the majority) part of the reason for our unexpected turnaround this year.
You should be expecting a healthy dose of Blitzing this Sunday…..
by Pekka for Predator Pontiff on Dec 8, 2010 6:27 PM CST up reply actions
Blitzing is fine we face that every week
It was the no down linemen that confused our offense since I dont believe we have ever seen before then
My point being I think a creative DC that comes up with something we havent seen before stands a much better job of stopping our offense

1. I never thought in my wildest dreams we’d be up for the div title, just hoped. in my mentality i never rule anything out, but i expect little. it was entirely possible but the realist in me kept it in check.
2. Saffold has been awesome, but I would say Oh Oh has been a huge surprise. when we selected him and I saw Pitta and I believe even Hernandez still on the board I was shocked, however whenever he has played he’s been an impact player, great rapport with Sam. I also like what Selvie has done on the limited snaps he’s had, Murphy despite inconsistent has shown some flashes and soft hands, Fendi I hope would see more time but biggest addition besides Saffold is Alexander, he just turns our offense into something that must be accounted for…
3. I’ll go for Bradley Fletcher, always breaking up passes on 3rd down, has great potential. Amendola SHOULD be a recognisable name by now. Also, Donnie Jones our punter is the best in the league but everyone forgets to vote him to the pro bowl, so i implore you do too.
4, Gumbo? i’d rather have Steven Jackson, but how about you send us Colston and Reggie Bush?
my questions.
what were your expectations going into last season and how do they differ from this season?
What are the keys to the game?
Do you think that the Rams keeping it mighty close last season with a 1-15 team have the ability to pull out an upset on you guys?
who do you fear on the rams? besides steven jackson lol
Bradford to Onobun!
I fear Howie Longs kid he's seems to be a pass rushing machine this year
We have had a lot of protection problems this year and a lot of holding penalties Brees ability to get rid of the ball so quick has been saving us so far
So how is howie’s kid doing in ya’lls mind this year

Great answer.
He has been the most effective pass rusher in the NFL this year and if there is a Rams fan who doesn’t love him then he’s not a Rams fan! He only has 7 sacks to show for his work, but he leads the league in hurries and it’s not close. Add onto that all of his QB hits and drawn holding penalties, he really is the most effective DE this year. PRO BOWL.

And don't forget that Long's got a non-stop motor...from start to finish!
Another admirable quality.

Nice.

Good comparison...
…except maybe a bigger and faster version? I never knew Grants measurements, but he always seemed small to me. Chris seems bigger and actually a little bit faster…but maybe not Wistrom was pretty fast.
All I want for Christmas is a Pete Carroll scowl on week 17!

We need Chris to do that
this week.

the correct thing to fear
he is quickly becoming a huge fan favourite.
it’s amazing how we all saw his progression and he has actually followed the curve we predicted at this time last season.
he will be the #1 DE in the NFL next season… mainly because only 3 teams will run a 4-3 lmao
but no he is amazing, and teamed with JL he is doing some work.
he doesn’t seem to be a fan of New Orleans though… take a look at his twitpics lol
Bradford to Onobun!
Expectations last year were division title or bust. This year, we’d like to win another Super Bowl, but NFCCG at the very least.
Keys to this game: As mississippisaintsfan said, stopping Chris Long will be huge. I’m hoping our tackles come up big in this one. Also, stopping Steven Jackson. Our Pass D is 3rd in the league, but our Rush D is sitting at 15th in the league. When you look at the running backs we’ve faced(Peyton Hillis, Michael Turner, Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, DeAngelo WIlliams are the big ones this year), the only reason I’m not surprised that we’re worse than 15th is that we haven’t faced enough top tier running backs. That will be a crucial point for us.
OJ Atogwe. The Canadian Machine has the talent to be a top tier Safety, it’s just a matter of whether or not he plays to his potential. If he does, I’m quite scared. Brees hasn’t been great with INT numbers this year, and Atogwe could make those numbers worse. Plus, he’s Canadian.
"Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we kick the Vikings from the Dome to the foot of Canal Street!" - MtnExile
As far as expectations, they varied. We were asked this same question on CSC at the beginning of the 2009 season, and I replied “13-3 and Super Bowl winners.” I haven’t stopped bowing since.
This year, I expected the same thing: 13-3 and Super Bowl winners. That’s still possible. I won’t be satisfied with less…but then, I’ve only been satisfied (football-wise) once in my entire freaking life.
As for the Rams pulling an upset: last year, you caught us with a crippled secondary. Jabari Greer and Darren Sharper were already out, and Tracy Porter went out at the very beginning of the third quarter. Yeah, Jackson had a big day against us…but he’s Steven Jackson. That’s gonna happen. It was the 300 yards passing that Bulger had that really hurt. The Saints were in hold-on-until-everyone-gets-healthy mode. This year, we’re healthy. And we’re at home. As this is the NFL, anything’s possible…but if you upset us, I think it will come from your defense, not from Steven Jackson and Sam Bradford.
Keys to the game? For the Saints, play up to your talent level. We do that, we win. For the Rams, see here.
It was worth the wait.
rams playoff bound
1 yes i am shocked that we are in first. can you think of any first pick overall team to make the playoffs before? no
2 yes saffold is a beast and will become one of the best. danario alexander is a true 1 WR when he is healthy, he has speed size and most of all hands.
3 out side of jackson bradford and OJ. you need to watch out for everyone on the team. this rams team is all about team efffort not any me me me guys on the team. they all do things to change the course of the game.
4 yes you can have him. or should i say you will get an extra helping of him. your defense will get plenty of him sunday and he will eat your gumbo.
how are yours teams defense? i already know everything about the offense just have no idea about the defense. mostly how are the DBs ? thats the way sam wins is thru them. well here is to a good game.
didn't the dolphins do it a few years back?
sorry to burst your bubble a lil bit.
Bradford to Onobun!
yes
i’d also dispute alexander has the potential to be #1 – not that he is a true #1 right now
DONNIE FUCKING JONES FOR PRO BOWL!
Our DBs are great
Our #2 strength. The problem is, we can’t get any pressure with the front 4. So while we have one of the best secondaries, the pass rush won’t aid them unless we blitz on the play. Linebackers are the #1 weakness when you exclude Vilma. Our other LBs are serviceable but close to the bottom otherwise. Which worries me going in to face Steven Jackson. So, I’m expecting the Rams to have a run heavy gameplan.
Week 14 matchup: Rams
Week 14 motto: My kingdom for special teams coverage.
We have possible the best DB's in the nfl
Even when all but a 3rd string corner was hurt against the steelers we played 5 safties and shut them down
The rams best chance is on the ground although I like Sam Bradford alot he will get burnt trying to throw alot against our DB’s

If you can't tell from our posts..
it’s an exciting time to be a Rams fan – and it is such a relief to finally say that.
As “Raisethedead” mentioned earlier, this success stems from a team effort. Each week, we have someone new step up for us. Last week, for instance it was Craig Dahl (who?) with a sack and key interception. In Denver, it was Billy Bajema with his first 2 TD’s of his career.
I think a key to our game will be our ability to get pressure with our front 4. If we can consistently do that, look for this one to go down to the wire.
How has your offensive line been this year?
How has your offensive line been this year?
/begins to cry slightly/
We have the highest paid Guard in NFL history and he won’t stop commiting penalties. He is still playing hard, but I (and I think others) are worried he may have Albert Haynesworth Syndrome. Otherwise our line is physically great, but has taken a dramatic step down from last year’s masterful performance.
Week 14 matchup: Rams
Week 14 motto: My kingdom for special teams coverage.
I think our team looks about right
1. yes, but more cause the other teams aren’t doing great. The team looks about how I thought they would, the competition does not.
2. Saffold is nice, Murphy’s got swagger, Gilyard seems like a waste. Uh-oh is surprisingly good but injured…our other picks have been ineffectual.
3. Bajema. Bradford likes his safe options and Bajema is emerging as one.
4. Maybe for all your 1st rounders for the next decade.
Questions:
How are your LB’s in run stuffing?
Is Colston still essential, or could a trade for a non-first rounder pull him away?
Is Ivory run out of spread formations alot or have you switched into more frequent big formations this year?
Julio Jones for Rams 2011
My Thoughts
1. Suprised? Yes, Shocked? No. I’ve always been a huge Bradford fan throughout college. So when we drafted him my expectations were high, but never did I expect him to develop so quickly with so few offensive weapons.
2. 2nd Rounder OT Saffold has been outstanding, and arguably better than our number one draft pick, OT Smith, last year. 3rd rounder Jerome Murphy has shown potential and I like him alot looking forward. Hopefully he is like Bradley Fletcher, who last year struggled with injuries his rookie season and now is a great defensive starter for us. 4th rounder Mardy Gilyard has been MIA. With all the WR injuries I thought for sure he would be a huge part of this offense, hopefully he will develop soon. He was one of the draft picks after Bradford that really excited me, his highlights at Cincy are outstanding. TE Hoomanawanui has really been great this season when healthy, however that is a big if. If he can stay healthy going forward I see great great things in his future. DE George Selvie was spoken of very highly early in the year, however the emergence of Hall and Long at DE have overshadowed him.
3. OLB Vobora (Mr. Irrelevant)- very limited reps this year after starting at OLB last year, with OLB being a huge flaw in the defense this year, this week’s game against the Saints look for Vobora to step up. With the injury to DIggs, I would like to see him in the starting lineup, hopefully he can get the job done.
4. Runningback problems?? Ivory saved my fantasy team last week from defeat, and earned me a spot in the playoffs. Now I don’t know if I should start him this week (Round 1 of playoffs) against the Rams.
To be honest, I think you guys need this game more than us..
if you want to play at home in the playoffs since you are already down a game to ATL with only 1 more game to play against them (though you do have the inside track for the WC). We will stil control our destiny with a loss this weekend. All we have to do is win out.
With that being said, it looks like Thomas might be back this weekend. Do you figure your running game will go back to the 3 headed attack with Thomas, Bush and Ivory or do you see limited action by Bush and/or Thomas?
I am also curious if you think Thomas will be with your team next year?
Pierre is done.
Every time you see Ivory get a good run, Pierre’s chances of staying with the Saints diminish.
Week 14 matchup: Rams
Week 14 motto: My kingdom for special teams coverage.
Also
Bush will probably be in on passing third downs and as rest for Ivory. I have a feeling Pierre will be the third and 4th quarter back. To give Ivory rest and to slowly let him back in when others are tired.
Week 14 matchup: Rams
Week 14 motto: My kingdom for special teams coverage.
Ivory is literally running Thomas out of towm
I really like Thomas but I would be upset if he came back and took Ivory’s touches away from him the way Ivory is running

Well ...
1. Yes. Very surprised.
2. Saffold is playing like a vet as the LT. Selvie and (and Cudjo to a less extent) are playing decently in spot action. Uh-Oh is great, albeit often hurt. Gilyard seems dumb. I like both CB’s (though one is now on IR).
3. I would say DT – Fred Robbins on Defense and WR – Gibson on offense. Runner up is DL – Ah You on Defense. This is assuming you know about Laurinaitis, Long and Atogwe. Wait, I’d also add CB- Bradley Fletcher.
4. I’ll make my own gumbo, thanks.
I can take a beating ... I'm a Rams fan.

I'll take the gumbo
But i also want all of your picks in the 2011 draft and your 2012 1st pick too

gumbo for jackson is a done deal
i dont know what team he plays on but i am sure since you want him you know the nba team he is on. can i get free delivery on the gumbo
For the first question, not surprised we're tied for first.
I’m surprised that we’ve been in so many close games. I thought we’d have a chance in the NFC West if we stayed healthy because we could easily see the defense coming together. The offense has some catching up to do, but it’s getting there.
#2: Draft picks are playing very well. Real studs in Saffold and Murphy. They both have their growing pains, but they are pretty good. Eugene Sims and George Selvie have shown potential, and Michael Hoomanawanui is very good (but is injured for the rest of the year). Danario Alexander is a rookie free agent who is very good. Your backup QB Chase Daniel is very familiar with him.
#3: If you don’t know James Laurinaitis, you should. He was a very deserving candidate for Defensive Rookie of the Year last season. He’s an absolute monster. Also, you need to know James Hall. He’s old, but he’s having a career year right now. If you know both those guys, you need to know Ron Bartell. If he plays, he’s a very good cornerback. He’s having a pro bowl year.
#4: You can have Steven Jackson in 8 years when he’s old and can’t play any more.
#4:
id trade SJ for both of your guards and marques colston
btus thats just me. anything less and i wont give up 39.
other guys have done a pretty good job of answering the questions. denario alexander could be a factor, hes big and fast who fell in the draft due to injury problems. if healthy hes quite a weapon, also bradon gibson has been doing quite well recently, hopefully you hear his name come gametime.
who has come up huge so far this season? im thinking more defensively because i dont know them that well. how has your draft class done? and if you could come up with a gameplan to beat the saints what would it be?

this is OT, but since we have some NOLA folks in here, I'll ask anyway...
How earthshaking was the news this week concerning the Hornets? Since NOLA is obviously a Saints town, does the NBA even show up on the radar? Even with CP3, does basketball have a chance in a football crazy town?
What do you think about Bradford chasing down Roman Harper?

That was a hell of a rundown
Harper looked age appropriate

Good game though. You guys are looking like you are on the verge of having a very strong team. Just need a few bits and pieces and you have the perfect building blocks with Bradford, Jackson and Laurinaitis.
Good luck in your playoff run.
I like Hamburgers!
Harper will never live that down.
I see his story is he just was tired and figured he didn’t want to run up the score, so he stepped out of bounds. Bradford was not going to catch him, he just stepped out to be a good guy. Good luck in the locker room with that story.
