Rams top Arizona 19-6

We're still in first place after winning this one, our second road victory in a row.

Looking at the rest of the season, it's at New Orleans, home against the Chiefs, home against the Niners, and on the road to face the 12th man in Seattle.

  Do we have a chance?

we definitely have a chance!

two of those games are completely winnable…I don’t know if it will be enough for the playoffs, but this team has turned the corner!

Good win

Defense played well, that was the difference in terms of the scoreline this week, Bradley Fletcher made a nice break on that ball too

Holy crap

anyone seeing manning melting?

by RamsFan7 on Dec 5, 2010 6:19 PM CST reply actions

I think we played our worse game in a win

I think that shows how bad the Cards are right now.

by Smoooth Criminal on Dec 5, 2010 6:20 PM CST reply actions

offensively maybe

but don’t forget, defense had 4 sacks and 2 picks, only allowed 6 pts

by TheBirds on Dec 5, 2010 6:21 PM CST up reply actions

Defense was great

But the Cards offense has been awful.

by Smoooth Criminal on Dec 5, 2010 6:24 PM CST up reply actions

True True

any win is great. I blocked the last three seasons from my memory lol

by Smoooth Criminal on Dec 5, 2010 6:32 PM CST up reply actions

i know what you mean though

it is hard to say but both sides of the ball started really bland IMO. That sounds crazy considering they kept AZ to 0 touchdowns and obviosuly did a great job down the stretch. The offense had no zest whatsoever….zero zilch nada…. sj looked better but we could not get it in rythym. However that equaled a 13 point lead win on the road and that is all that matters. I wonder if we just play at the other teams level every game. Broncos have a high flying offense, so we have Bradford throw for his game of over 300 pass yards. Raiders play rough style, we take the most penalties of any game this year, we play the cards…. our offense looks like crap…. it is wierd

by stlfan2004 on Dec 5, 2010 7:28 PM CST up reply actions

I was thinking the same thing

And that would put us at least at 8 wins, with most of those against division rivals. So I think that could give us the division.

But we should not take the Seahawks and 49er’s games for granted even though I think the Rams are good enough to win them.

by Sundowner on Dec 5, 2010 6:31 PM CST up reply actions

by this time in the season you would expect to be able to call them

but honestly… although if i have to call it i agree with all you said, i still wouldn’t be surprised if any of those went the other way.

by stlfan2004 on Dec 5, 2010 7:29 PM CST up reply actions

Really proud of this team

They just needed to find a way to win this game. I know Arizona sucks but it’s a road game, in December, in a playoff chase. They got it done. Props to Jackson, Amendola, Gibson, Dahl & Smith on great games

by riotmute on Dec 5, 2010 6:25 PM CST reply actions

BTW

We just equaled our win total from the last three seasons.

by Smoooth Criminal on Dec 5, 2010 6:29 PM CST reply actions

I have to say

I hope John Skelton doesn’t mature. His arm looked dangerous. He was very shakey though. But I could feel the wind blow by my face at home when he threw a ball.

If you love something, set it free. If it doesn't come back, find it and kill it.

by gomer7 on Dec 5, 2010 6:30 PM CST reply actions

If he pans out and plays great

Do you still want the Cards to pick a QB in the 1st round?

by Smoooth Criminal on Dec 5, 2010 6:35 PM CST up reply actions

Personally, I don't want them to get a QB in the 1st round

I’d rather sign a vet like Mcnabb or Bulger and have Skeleton and Max fight for the backup position. We need to draft a pass rusher in the 1st round.

by CanadianCard on Dec 5, 2010 6:40 PM CST up reply actions

Hahaha

Bulger…

that would be beneficial

to us….

What Would Joey Votto Do?

by OGC Reds on Dec 5, 2010 6:50 PM CST up reply actions

I think Bulger would do well after resting for a whole year

And if we improve our O-line. He’s only 32 and still got a lot left in him.

by CanadianCard on Dec 5, 2010 6:51 PM CST up reply actions

I would love for him to pull a Warner

But I would still be happy if he was a stop gap till Skeleton or Max are ready.

by CanadianCard on Dec 5, 2010 6:54 PM CST up reply actions

Its in him

He never was quite as good but if surrounded by enough talent he can move the chains and score any time from anywhere.

by LARams1968 on Dec 5, 2010 6:57 PM CST up reply actions

i honestly think he will suck anywhere

unless they give him a really good oline he can trust. We destroyed him with all of the sacks and hits he took. By the end i would honestly watch him flinch and wait for a sack when no one was anywhere around him. To get that much to go away, he has to have an oline anyone could trust

by stlfan2004 on Dec 5, 2010 7:32 PM CST up reply actions

Let's remember

putting Bulger in Arizona means he spends 4 games a year playing Long/Laurinaitis and Patrick Willis.

I dunno...

I hate to say it, but Bradford has shown more as a QB than anything Bulger ever did.

Sure, Bulger had flashier stats and probably was great for fantasy football. But he just didn’t seem to have it where it counted (cliche, I know, but…)

Rams have a lot of work to do.

I really base our chances of going to the playoffs and being something to recon with if we beat the Saints. If we lose to the Saints I really feel it’ll change our outcome in the future games in a negative way. If we go to New Orleans and win, then I really like our chances to making the playoffs.

I think as long as we go into the Superdome and compete we will be alright.

I can’t believe I’m actually gonna be rooting for the Niners next week!

The game against the Chiefs in a couple of weeks is key. A home game against an AFC playoff contender and I think if we play our game we can rock the outlook of the AFC and NFC West divisions.

I'm suffering from an extreme case of laurinaitis!

by NachoD on Dec 5, 2010 6:52 PM CST reply actions

bears fan

but never mind that
Sam bradford is my fantasy football qb and has been doing pretty well on average

marc clayton is someone i enjoy watching playing(im from and live in bmore)

questions:
1. are you surprised at how good sam bradford is this young?
2. do you think the turf is the reason yall lose so many people for the season?
3 when marc went down i said aww boy here goes the rams losing all the offense for another year, it was good to see yall leading your division… who is the reason offense or defense for the rams success?
4. we all know stephen jackson and of course bradford who else on offense(that isnt hurt) should people pay attention to and why?
5. your defense on a scale of 1-10 what would you rate it?
6. if the season ended today the rams would make the playoffs as divison leader(i think), how far do you think you could make it into the playoffs?
7. with your remaining schedule how do you see the games playing out?
8. last game of the season, game on the line, rams have the ball need the win to solidfy the divison who scores the game winner?

did i mention i love boobies?

by Tommy Ohyeah Mcduffie on Dec 5, 2010 6:57 PM CST reply actions

My answers:

1) Yes, but not entirely.
2) No, injuries seem to happen in stadiums that offer both turf and grass.
3) I’m tempted to say the defense is the reason the Rams are doing so well (as seen in this week’s game); however, the defense was pretty strong last year and just got worn out from being on the field too much. Thus, the offense has been the reason. Namely, Sam Bradford.
4) Danny Amendola (gritty 3rd down receiver and returner); Danario Alexander (ridiculously talented receiver with an injury history- currently healthy); Billy Bajema (a “blocking” tight end who has stepped up the last 2 games as a receiver)
5) 8- still gives up the big plays and opponents still seem to get back into the game late, but overall they’ve been very successful especially on 3rd down and in the redzone.
6) They could get through the wild card round (with some luck and home field advantage), but I don’t see them winning on the road in the divisional round, but who knows?
7) lose @ NO, lose vs. KC (maybe not though), win vs. SF (I sure hope so), ?? vs. SEA (depends on the meaningfulness of this game)
8) I would like to see Bradford throw it to Danny Amendola, but history tells me that he’d roll out and throw to a TE (Hoomanawanui, if healthy, or Fells/Bajema).

I'll give it a shot

1) I didn’t watch him in college but what surprised me the most his poise in the pocket and his ability to read the defense. No I didn’t think he would be this good in his rookie year.

2) I don’t know if it’s the turf. Injuries happen in football.

3) Offense it’s Steven Jackson and Sam. Teams load the box to stop SJax and Sam has been pretty accurate which moves the chains. Defensively our D-Line has been great. We pressure opposing QBs consistently.

4) Danny Amendola has been good. Brandon Gibson has stepped up recently too. Also Danario Alexander can make big plays when he’s on the field.

5) 7

6) I think we lose in the 1st round. But you never know.

7) A loss to NO. I’m not sure about the KC game, I think we can win because it’s @STL. Wins against SF and SEA.

8) Sam will find whoever’s open.

4)

by Smoooth Criminal on Dec 5, 2010 7:11 PM CST up reply actions

i noticed

both of you mentioned the talent on defense and both Danario Alexander and Danny Amendola

1. what type of offense is the biggest miss match for the rams defense in your opinion?

2. The two receivers(Danario Alexander and Danny Amendola) obviously are getting starts because the two people who were supposed to were lost for the season, could you see either one or both starting next season with a healthy roster, and if so whose spot do they take?

did i mention i love boobies?

by Tommy Ohyeah Mcduffie on Dec 5, 2010 7:17 PM CST up reply actions

2. Laurent Robinson is likely to go, IMO, and either DX or Amendola will be back, if not both.

I met Joe Halahuni's parents.....in Alaska. Jealous?

by sergey606 on Dec 5, 2010 7:26 PM CST up reply actions

2. Both make the roster next season if healthy

Alexander is just a special player when healthy. Give him an off-season to recover and learn the playbook and he might explode. Amendola is the heart and soul of the WR corp and he did a great job today in the return game. Alexander retains his spot as the burner and Amendola would only have to worry about Mardy Gilyard making huge strides, which seems highly unlikely

by riotmute on Dec 5, 2010 7:27 PM CST up reply actions

1) Quick passes for 7-8 yard gains and a good consistent running game. Like the ATL game.

2) Danny Amendola is a slot receiver who can make tough catches. But he’s no #1 or #2 WR. His ability to return punts and kicks as well as be a slot receiver is valuable to the team, so he’s a #3 WR at best. I don’t see Danario as a full time player because of his injury history. He’ll probably be a player who plays 20-30 snaps a game. Laurent Robinson should be on his way out. Doesn’t contribute enough to warrant a roster spot.

by Smoooth Criminal on Dec 5, 2010 7:30 PM CST up reply actions

What the other guys said, but I'll add this

1) Mobile QBs do well against the Rams. Strong blitz packages are frequently called by the aggressive D, and if a QB can stay on his feet, there’s usually room in the middle to scramble. Also, teams with good YAC RBs (I"m looking at you Frank Gore) have done well. Heck, big receivers like Megatron did well against the Rams too (though I’d pick this type of offense to play against as a Rams fan).

2) Alexander and Amendola both make the roster. This leaves Robinson out in the cold as well as Gilyard. Much uncertainty clouds the future of Rams receiving. Is Avery done? Will Clayton be back? Will they draft someone? Will they find a Free Agent? Too many unknowns to predict next year’s roster.

Biggest game on the schedule is going to be the last one.

Sam Bradford drops back, sees Laurent Robinson in the open, and he completes the pass for a gain of 28! Oh- Wait, looks like a holding penalty is going to call this one back...(Oh wait; Barron's gone, ignore that last sentence).

i have to say, I feel our defense if our DB's are healthy schematically can cope with NO's offense

remember last year our 1-15 team with BULGER at QB were some good QB play away from beating a previously undefeated Saints team that won the superbowl.

This bodes well for dealing with a Saints team that isn’t playing too great.

If we avoid Turnovers on offense and stay aggressive on defense I feel we can beat the Saints.

Expect Steven to play exceptionally well vs Saints regardless of result, I have a funny feeling he’s ready to blow some people away.

BTW. I’m not saying we will win vs the Saints but I think with this team we can’t say every game is a loss win, it will be tough no doubt, but we CAN and I will focus on it, but not be disappointed should we lose.

vs KC I fancy our chances being at home, and Cassell will not be able to deal with Chris Long and Animal underneath…

vs San Fran, at home again, I fancy our chances
and depending on how the other games have gone

I see us not needing to beat Seattle, but if we need to we have the talent to do so, as proved earlier the season. the only gripe i have is how well Sam deals with the noise there…

Bradford to Onobun!

Seahawks

Have a tough schedule the rest of the season. They play the niners in SF next week. I think the Niners have a good chance at beating them in SF.

They play the Falcons (almost guaranteed loss) and then the Bucs (close game, but I think the Bucs will pull it off).

Then the most important game – week 17!! We’ll need to play our hearts out against the Seahawks in Seattle.

by Rams07 on Dec 5, 2010 8:28 PM CST reply actions

Hmmm

Discounting week 17, I think there’s a good chance the Seahawks might go 0 and 3. I can see them losing to all three teams; 49ers, Falcons and Bucs!

by Rams07 on Dec 5, 2010 8:43 PM CST up reply actions

i can easily see the seahawks going 0-3

unfortunately, it’s going to take the rams going 3-0 to avert having the all or nothing week 17 game.

I realize that

We have an equally difficult schedule. I don’t think anyone is under the impression that week 17 against the Seahawks won’t be a crucial game.

When I said “discounting week 17,” I wasn’t implying we will go 3-0 next three weeks.

by Rams07 on Dec 5, 2010 8:49 PM CST up reply actions

it will be THE crucial game. that game will be for the division.

the rams have an easier schedule in the fact that they get both the chiefs and 49ers at home.

by stlcardinalsfang on Dec 5, 2010 8:50 PM CST up reply actions

lol

I understand that. I realize week 17 is make it or break it, the game to win in order to win the division.

Even tho the Chiefs game will be at home, I’m a little nervous about it. They have a killer running game and the aerial attack is equally scary.

by Rams07 on Dec 5, 2010 8:55 PM CST up reply actions

i'm excited for the chiefs game.

i’m not the biggest fan of the chiefs or their fans, so this will be a big rivalry game for me.

this should've happened in week 1

but hey, a win’s a win. back to .500, first place… nice spot to be in. we’ll probably go 2-2 or 3-1 the rest of the way. probably going to lose next week against the saints, but should be able to beat the chiefs, nines and hawks.

week 15 should be interesting (as my dad’s a chiefs fan). it’ll be fun having a family rivalry.
