Even Seattle is against Seattle

Seattle fans want their team to lose to the St. Louis Rams this week.

A recent online poll found a majority of respondents to an online poll from the Seattle Times want their team to lose this week.

Ok, I'm well aware about the scientific validity of online polls, so understand that this is in no way representative of what the average Seattle fan probably feels. But just go with it.

I'd think they'd want to lose for the shame of sending a 7-9 team to the playoffs. No, it's all about the draft and not losing a pick that would have them no further down than the 11th spot in the draft.

I'm sure Sam Bradford, Steven Jackson and the entire Rams roster would love to help them out in that regard, and will.

If God is a football fan

The rams will win. I really don’t want to be in the first division to allow a team with a losing record into the playoffs.

It is sunday night with Al Michaels who loves to say Ed Hochuli

j/k I actually like Al Michaels…in fact, I hope he talks up bradford the whole game. That would be sweet.

I used to hate Collinsworth as a play by play, but he is way way better than he used to be. I hope he talks up bradford the whole game too. and jackson…well just talk about the Rams dude!

Yeah Collinsworth is better now.

This is just sick

You play to win and when you stop wanting your team to win you need to just stop rooting for them. I was cheering for the Rams all of last year even thought we were going for the 1st overall pick.

I don't love to hate you T.O. I just hate you.

Lol

I’d take a 1-15 record and a chance at both Suh or Bradford than a whopping 2 wins and missing out on one. Granted, we probably still would have gotten Bradford, but it’s nice to give him 50 mil. We’re generous.

But this, this is for the playoffs, wanting to lose is just wrong.

Like I said and people gave me crud for it, but blow is what ZI say, blow

The NFC West Division winner will get hurt by the draft position and the fact that better teams will draft ahead of the West Division Winner.

49ers have the most talent and will benefit the most from the draft slot they are in – they have a qb situstion to deal with….

Arizona – qb situation too

Seattle – soon to be qb situation as well

Rams need edge impact players, Go Rams – win or lose, but I would take the loss for a higher draft slot too. Like I also said, to go in as the laughing stock of the league @ 8-8 or 7-9 is abysmal.

The whole goal of teams is to go to the post season...

I just cant get past the cutting off your nose to spite your face aspect of throwing a game to get a better draft pick.

Besides drafting is a balanced mixture of art, science and luck. I always feel there is plenty of marquee talent in the first 3 rounds for all teams. The real key is being able to scout it. Some teams know how to do it and others have no clue. Even experts that write articles about it close to draft time…yeah they get some right, but they get a shitload wrong and they dont even know about some kids that eventually make it big not to mention undrafted FAs.

I mean yeah the Rams scored huge with Sam with their first pick and JL and whatnot, but look at how many starters the Rams have that they found by banging on car doors in other team parking lots!

The next point is if the Rams make the playoffs…even if they lose in the first round to the Saints or whomever. It will be much easier for them to sign FA vets to fill positions. This is because veterans want a superbowl ring. If you went from 1-15 to winning your division with a headcoach that has a superbowl ring as a DC. Having a quarterback that looks to be the king of the division for the decade to come helps also….I mean think about it…we might have the Vincent Jackson saga again this offseason. The Seabags will be interested as they were before and so will the Rams. If the Rams match the seahawks, monetarily, who do you think he will pick? The playoff contender on the rise with the franchise quarterback.

All I want for Christmas is a Pete Carroll scowl on week 17!

by leadhead on Dec 30, 2010 8:33 PM CST up reply actions

Imagine the

DEFENSIVE vets that will want to come to a rising team with Spagnuolo as coach. Especially after the season Robbins and Hall have had. Dude, what if we got someone like Ronde Barber? That leadership alone would mean so much to this team. I doubt the Bucs will let him go but it’s a cool thought.

Tuck or Osi

NYG may be looking for a new coach. These guys would want to play in a system they are familiar with and may request a trade to a “competitive” team. A 3rd round pick for either of these players is a steal!

by 81 Witness on Dec 31, 2010 10:57 AM CST up reply actions

There is also Champ Bailey

who probably won’t be back in Denver with all the change.

He wants to play more safety to prolong his career so he would so versatile in this system.

You know

It isn’t so much about being the “laughing stock” . It’s basically common sense. Winning this game would be great for all the right reasons. Mainly gaining playoff experience for a young QB and a young team. And even the slightest chance of them “catching fire” and going all the way.
But, as much as I love this team, I’m also a realist. They are NOT Super Bowl bound.
This team needs players and playmakers. And the best way to obtain them is thru the Draft. So LOSING this game actually is MORE beneficial.
It’s sort of a catch 22. I will be rooting for them to win, because that’s what I have always done for the past 43 years. But I won’t be all that disappointed if they lose.

by ZamRam on Dec 31, 2010 8:30 AM CST up reply actions

I really don't care about draft position

I want to see the Rams become respectable and FEARED again. After these last two decades of futility the Rams are building towards being a strong team again. In the ’90s they were second only to the bungles. This last decade they were second worst only to the puddy tats. Thats laughing stock material. Win the division, now thats something to hang your hat on.
Poor record or not there is the pride of accomplishment that goes along with a divisional title.

I’m happiest about the way the Rams are building their team. Not spending 90 mil on an aging lineman or millions on a 100 year old WR with a bad attitude. They are collecting young talented players with positive attitudes. So far, Devaney, Spags and co. have shown themselves to be somewhat competent at evaluating players. I’m confident that they will draft well in any position. Add a couple of vets to that good core of players and the Rams will be formidable, soon. I don’t think in 2020 I’ll be posting about the Rams being 2nd worst to any team in the last decade.

by LARams1968 on Dec 31, 2010 9:06 AM CST up reply actions

Draft position is crucial.

Although stcardsfan4 made a good point above…“draft position only matters as much as the person drafting”.
That being said. (and keeping in mind that these comments are pertaining to jlcdb70’s statement and LARams1968 rebuttal…..
If you’d like the RAMS to be “Feared”. If you don’t want them to spend big money on over priced veterans. If you trust Devaney, Spags and Co. evaluation process. Then you’ll want to build this team thru the Draft.
Not that I totally agree with jlcdb70. But if we win this division there is a CHANCE that teams like New Orleans, Green Bay, NY Giants, Tampa Bay, Miami, NY Jets, Indianapolis, (I’m sure I’m missing somebody, but you get the point), will all be Drafting ahead of us. Basically starting out next season with an unfair advantage. Not that it’s any fault of theirs. The system is what it is and we’ll just have to deal with it. (But do you honestly think we’re better then they are).
Regardless…, this team NEEDS players. And there can be a HUGE difference in Drafting at #21 opposed to #11.

I wanted us to lose last year so we could get Bradford or Suh

but there is almost no between going 1-15 and going 2-15. Winning the division and making the playoffs OTOH is definitely worth picking later in the draft.

by TheBirds on Dec 30, 2010 9:13 PM CST reply actions

Agreed.

Losing for the first pick when you have ONE win is completely fine. Especially with prospects like Suh and Bradford at the top.

From a Seattle dweller

Honestly, the fans in Seatle right now hate the Hawks. I work with several Seahawks season ticket holders and they want the Hawks to lose because they are embarassed. What I have realized is how you lose is important. Last year when the Rams were losing you never saw them give up. I don’t see that with the Seahawks…they do give up. Here’s to burying them early and enjoying the ride into the playoffs for the Rams!!

by Ramfan from Seattle on Dec 30, 2010 11:30 PM CST reply actions

Kind words

But I’m amped up for a game, and want to see a game. Not a one-sided trubbing by either team(similar to last year’s experience in Seattle).

9er fans are in the same boat as you as well. I have lots of friends who have been turning on their own team since Singletary and crew have disappointed, and they are excited for the Samchise.

by 81 Witness on Dec 31, 2010 10:59 AM CST up reply actions

My 9er friend is the same.

He’s rooting for Sam, knowing the 9ers were trash this year.

to be fair

when I look at the NFC West, I am generally amazed at how bad every single team is. Like the Rams are probably the best team yet most of us here would agree that they would not be going 7-8 without an incredibly easy schedule…

I think it’s mostly that the Chargers and Broncos in ’08 both underperformed what they were expected (10 wins) while the Rams and Seahawks have overperformed what they were expected…

And I would agree that the talent level of every team in the NFC West is probaly 6 wins or fewer and that is BAD.

The Seahawks need the draft pick more than us though :/

I mean pick 11 instead of 21 is nice, but most the Seahawk fans I talked to here want them to win.
