Personnel Discussion: OJ Atogwe

Guys, I wanted to get your thoughts about the offseason plans for OJ Atogwe.  As you will undoubtedly remember, Atogwe was looking for a big FA payday last offseason, and didn't quite get it from other teams.  He ended up signing a 5 year $31.6 million contract, with only $4.1 million guaranteed, which was his 2010 salary.  2011 sees him making $3.5 million with an $8 million roster bonus due on 2/21, totaling $11.5 million, if he is still on the team.  After that he will make between $5 million and $5.5 million a year for the next three years after that.

I remember after he signed the deal some people saying that we essentially signed him to a 1 year, $4.1 million deal, assuming that he would be released at the end of this year before the huge payday.  If that happened it would seem almost guaranteed that he would not be back with the Rams.

My question is, Should we keep him or should we release him?

On the one hand, Atogwe has been one of our best defensive players this year.  He continues to be a ball hawk, causing fumbles, intercepting passes, and disrupting receivers.  He has even been used as a blitzer at times with success.  Suffice it to say, we would really miss him if he wasn't our starting FS next season.

On the other hand, $11.5 million is a lot of money for this team to shell out.

So, what do you want to happen and what do you think will happen?
