Could SF bench Alex Smith against the Rams in week 16?

Head coach Mike Singletary of the San Francisco 49ers talks with quarterback Alex Smith. Is he speaking in tongues?

Is Mike Singletary crazy? Wait, don't answer that.

After the 49ers belly flop last night in San Diego, the ass-waiving head coach is already talking about replacing his starting quarterback, which could mean that the St. Louis Rams will face Troy Smith again next week rather than Alex Smith.

Alex Smith, who never seems to have endeared himself to the 49ers future, former head coach, had a solid outing against Seattle last week, his first game back from injury, before a pedestrian effort last night. Benching a QB for one iffy game, now that's how you run a football team. It sounds as though the Alex Smith will most likely be in the lineup next week when they visit St. Louis.

Which is the better matchup for the Rams? Probably Alex Smith. Troy Smith's mobility proved to be too much for the Rams in week 10, who completed more TD passes that were called back than he did actual touchdowns (1).

The Rams appear to be the only team in the NFC West heading in the right direction.

I think it is a wash in different ways

You get the athletic quarterback that is aggrivating when he extends plays and gets first downs with his feet when your defense has it all locked up, But cant read NFL defenses and is not very accurate.

or

You get the accurate quarterback who is very good at reading NFL defenses but lets his lauded hyper intelligence override his instinct to throw the football on time.

Eventhough Troy Smith beat the Rams earlier, I would say Alex Smith is scarier because every once in a while he shows glimses of how dangerous a quarterback he should be.

All I want for Christmas is a Pete Carroll scowl on week 17!

In all honestly, how worried should I be that the Rams will be moving to LA after reading that Kroenkes buddy is proposing a new billion dollar stadium?

If you haven't seen

The metrodome has collapsed and no stadium in sight. I’d think you’d see the Vikes in LA before the Rams.

agreed

i hope so, I would assume the Vikes or the Jags have a better shot than the rams at moving, but it still freaks me out. 2015, Bradford at his peak, Rams finally winning, and then they ship out to LA….

From my understanding Kroenke is....

The chairman of “The LA Stadium committee” who have a scale model of a stadium to be built “into” the foothills of the Diamond Bar area (outskirts of LA).See picture below. My guess is that the Rams would fill the stadium for Stan.

The only thing comparable to a Rams win is a 49er loss!

Viking Purple

The scale model is even Viking purple ;)

no offense but I wouldn't mind seeing my Rams come back to LA, I have only seen them once since they left

and that was 2004 playoff game vs Vick and the Falcons. I think they rushed for 400 yards in that blowout loss

what?

Where’d you hear he was the chairman of the committee? It’s no secret that he was part of the initial working group, but I’ve never read anything that suggested he chaired any such committee or that he’s been involved much in the current committee’s efforts.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

I hope SF goes with Troy

Ditto leadhead. I would think Alex starts until 1 mistake is made then Troy comes in.

I get the sense...

…that the 49ers would be better off with either of the Smiths starting regularly than they are with the revolving door system.

Teams have gotten really bad about making changes… neither coaches nor quarterbacks get as much time to develop as they did in the past.

Back to LA! Love it!

Ignorance is bliss and way too many people are happy.
