as a whole is having issues.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Despite this being a great game so far

Our continued inability to run the ball effectively, even against a bottom-feeding rush defense, is vexing.

Who else has put a higher priority on a road-grading guard after today?

The 2 runs up the gut on 1st and second downs were.

The most predictable playcalling possible. Every single person watching this game knew those 2 runs were coming, and we cant run the ball to save our lives. At least try screens or something similar. High percentage passes.

The second run was honestly understable here.

Go to the 2 minutes warning. If we don’t convert then yes, we don’t deserve the West lead.

We lose all rhythm and momentum late in games.

THAT is all on the coaching staff. The execution is still inexcusable but the main reason IS the coaching staff. When will they LEARN THAT WE NEED TO KEEP PLAYING THE SAME FOOTBALL FOR 60 MINUTES.

Spags is still under the impression that we can win late like that AND WE FUCKING CAN’T. I don’t want Spags to go at all, but he needs to realize that we can’t change up our gamestyle late in games, it ruins everything we do.

16 pt lead with 5 mins to go. Running is the way to go. That idea is not unique to Shurmer. The players have to beat the other team.

It's not the way to go when the Rams have proven all season that they can't overpower the other team with runs.

After seeing Jackson stuffed on all but 1 play today? Why would you think it would work better in the 4th quarter, when everyone knows it’s coming? The passing game had shredded the Broncos all day.

by ViperLjs on Nov 28, 2010 6:51 PM CST up reply actions

holy crap

That was as unsatisfying an ending as you can possibly imagine. But the bottom line is, we’re in first place with a chance to really put some substance behind our position next weekend in Phoenix.

by TheBirds on Nov 28, 2010 6:45 PM CST up reply actions

Of course the execution of the players mean a lot.

But when you completely change your style in the 4th it kills any rhythm the Rams had and that has been clear on EVERY 4th quarter we had a lead in. Notice how we move the ball MUCH better playing behind in the 4th? Not a coincidence, the staff needs to let them play the way they have been.

You're right, the O-line is bad at run blocking.

Its obvious. So why try to turn into a power-running team in the 4th quarter every game? It DOESN’T work. We have proven that game after game. Shurmur should be smart enough to realize this.

thank you.

a vertical threat, and a dedication to the run, allowed PA to take place and rip big chunks of yardage. DX has the abiliy to make those plays consistently and i don’t know why we didn’t try it at least on 1st down… could have ripped off a lot of clock or sam could have scrambled for + yardage on a play action play… doesn’t always have to be an incompletion.

passing to kill the clock is possible and works as the d aren’t expecting it.

i understand sticking to the run throughout the game to open PA and appease SJax (although the porous blocking must have been an annoyance)

Damn that has been awhile.

Still too early for Stafford. He looks good but man he’s headed towards being an injury bust.

Why is it...

That people discussing football seem to think that any criticism or praise of the coaching staff means the critic is necessarily absolving the players of any responsibility?

For

50 minutes, it was amazing.

add all 60..

those runs to take the clock down were crucial… players on defense should be pegged not coaching

by mh39 on Nov 28, 2010 7:06 PM CST up reply actions

The final drive was great.

If you really give the staff credit for the 2 drives before that then you’re crazy! Run, run, imcomplete twice in a row. I understood the 3 runs in the last drive completely, as mad as it made me, because they had less than a minute left.

Because the play calling completely

took us out of our rhythm. Be my guest in backing up the coaching staff but TIME AND TIME again they kill our momentum and rhythm with head scratching calls that haven’t worked with ANY of our 4th quarter leads. Anyone can see it, don’t know why you can’t. There is a reason we move the ball in the 4th quarter when we play from behind, because WE LET THEM PLAY the way they’ve been playing.

if you are losing you have to be aggressive

there is no reason to play like that with the lead… run the clock and leave with a win. no reason to risk losing the game on incompletions or picks

by mh39 on Nov 28, 2010 7:17 PM CST up reply actions

But if it doesn't work

after 5 times and the way you play without the lead (which is clearly more aggressive for us) is the only way we’ve been moving the ball all season then why switch it? It’s not going to magically work from now on, we just can’t do it.

but it has worked

we beat san diego with it.. and now the broncos… Tampa would have been beaten too if we had ran 10 MORE seconds off.. we were too aggressive with the lead then.. we almost passed more in the 2nd half than ran…

by mh39 on Nov 28, 2010 7:22 PM CST up reply actions

I understand we won

but you call that WORKING?! 20 POINTS in the 4th? GTFO of here you’re so blind. BOTH GAMES we almost lost BECAUSE of the 4th quarter playcalling. It didn’t work, we squeaked out in spite of it.

We seem to play

to almost lose.

Playing to win was that

Falcons game against Green Bay today. We did indeed play to almost lose.

Hurrah! We won. But why the 4th quarter collapse again????

At 6:35 EST the Rams were up 33-13 and had another shot at a 45 yard FG that Brown missed. Next thing I know I’m chewing down my fingernails because it’s 36-33 and we gotta punt the ball back to them!!!! Along the way they bombed us for a long TD and slid 2 more in on us. They were converting shit like 4th and 17. It was deja vu all over again. For some reason our offense can’t get a 1st down in the 4th quarter. SJax can’t get 3 yards and Sam can’t complete 5 yard pass. WTH? In sum, a blowout tiurned into a too close game. I keep wondering why…? Is something wrong with out conditioning or killer instinct. Without 4th qtr collapses we could be 9-2. Sheesh!

Next year

after this great year of experience, we will be a 9-2 at this point ;)

That's true

but I honestly believe we’ll be so much better with a good offseason.

9-2 is clearly overexaggeration though haha.

but hopefully 7-4 or 8-3!

Definitely.

But we’re still young, I thought we’d have learned a lot more from those games by now but not quite yet, definitely improving though.

Sam's first 5 games...

6 TD’s to 8 INT’s.

Sam’s last 6 games…
11 TD’s to 1 INT.

Damn, that’s gangsta.

What's with Josh Brown costing us 4 points this game???????

He had no problem nailing 54 yarders against us when he played for the Chickenhawks. Usually, a missed extra point comes back and bites you in the arse.

Anyway, Congrats Rams. We were due a bit of luck and away from home at that!

Now let’s put the Red Tweeters away next week in the 1st half and not let ’em come back.

by RamChop on Nov 28, 2010 7:22 PM CST reply actions

Sam's stats minus the Arizona and Detroit game.

1,998 yards, 62.3% completion, 16 TD’s to 4 INT’s with a 92.3 passer rating in 9 games.

Don’t know why I’m doing this but damn, that’s really good for a rookie. DAMN YOU DETROIT AND ARIZONA!
