I finally got a Sunday off and got to watch the game at my son's house. It was great because they were all Raider fans and it was fun watching them lose before going into my Rams game. Ahhh bliss.
Here is my argument. When the Rams had the ball with 5 minutes and change left in the game down by 9, Bradford scrambled and broke free for a first down around the 20 yard line. Knowing that the Rams needed a TD and a FG to catch the Falcons, and especially with the way the Falcons were killing the clock, I immediately yelled that the Rams should kick a field goal to bring them within 6 and make it a one score game. The Raiders fans all said no, go for the touchdown first and then the field goal later if they get the ball back.
Whenever I play Madden and am down by 9 to 11 points late, I always kick a field goal as soon as I get in field goal range and put the pressure on the opponent to play mistake free offensive football. 75% of the time, the strategy works.
The way it worked out, the Rams wasted two more minutes off the clock before the shovel pass was intercepted at the two and we came away from that possession with no points and lost the game.
Do you think it would have been a good strategy for Spags to go for the field goal and give the ball back to Atlanta with 5:00 left in the game to see if we could pressurize them into a turnover?
