Rams Recap, The Quick Five: Week 8
My apologies for not having one of these last week. I didn't get to watch the game, so I thought I would save myself the embarrassment of talking out of you know where. Here are the Quick Five:
|
Sam Bradford, QB This is what, the third week that Bradford hasn't thrown an INT? He had a great stat line yesterday and looks every bit the player the Rams hoped he would be when they sent him a 78 million dollar contract. I'd like to use some Peyton Manning rookie season stat comparison, but I think you already get the point. |
|
|
James Laurinaitis, MLB JL flat out dominated yesterday. Tackles for loss, sacks, INT's, you name it, he made it happen. He is Steven Jackson's counterpart on defense. Also, it should be noted the Rams held Carolina to 25 yards rushing, an amazing feat in itself. |
|
|
Ron Bartell, CB I've been hard on Bartell this season, but the thing I don't get is that he gets banged up all over, and then puts out his best outing so far. Granted he didn't have any INT's to drop this week (zing), but he was good in coverage, and that is what mattered.
|
|
|
Chris Long, DE Chris Long continues to sizzle this season. He is starting to put up the numbers that will allow him to be recognized, but it's a shame that is what it takes because he is dominating whoever is brave enough to line up against him. |
|

Injuries This Rams team desperately needs to get healthier. You could tell that Jason Smith was missed on the O-Line. Steven Jackson was definitely not at 100%, and while you can't help but admire him for his toughness, you have to wonder how much more he can take.

two more weeks till we go over .500 this is where things start going our way. till then i will just be happy watching the cowboys lose and hope buffalo can get one win. bradford will never be a manning. he will be better. i think you should mention gibson he held onto the ball when it was thrown to him.
Yeah I think Gibson is coming along slowly but surely...
… he seems to be one of those guys that you have to chuck it his way a couple of times before he gets his head in the game.
I am hoping to see a bit more consistency week in and week out. But I think he is easily the Rams best route runner.
That's like calling Adam Sandler the pretties GAP girl...LOL!
I hope somebody gets that one…

Bartell's Best Outing?
I would say that the Detroit game or the Arizona game would have to be better than this past week. Because of his injuries, he did not start and had limited playing time. He played the whole game against Detroit and Arizona and shut down Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson respectively.
Because his limited playing time, I would say this is no better than Bartell’s fourth or fifth best game of the season.

Props to the O-line
For holding their own this week without J.Smith, and for keeping Sam healthy the past 8 weeks. What a blessing not to have you QB injured, thanks O-line, Jackson, Karny, TE’s and evryone else in the protection scheme.

Was at the game!
Couple things of note
1) bartell looked really good even with the injury.
2)Gibson’s got swag and shows it after every first down that he gets. That dude knows to pump up the crowd.
3) even though lauranitis had a monster game I couldn’t help notice that couple time when he blitzed he got blown up at the line of scrimmage.
4) Chris long is a hustla! That’s how we need every single ram to play.

Laurinaitis and Long
I saw that, too. But, I know on at least one play, he was only faking the blitz when he was actually in charge of covering the Panthers RB. So, I don’t think he was actually getting blocked well.
Long is an absolute freak. After the game, Hanifan said that if Long could develop his inside move, he’d be almost unstoppable. I can’t disagree with that. His outside move creates pressure almost every time. Moore could not feel comfortable because he always had to step up because of the pressure that Long brought. He was extremely effective and his pressure is a big reason why the secondary has been able to perform to level it has.

Rest up during the bye week!
They now have a couple weeks to heal up their injuries, and I get to sleep in this Sunday.

I missed it last week :(
I was expecting a big red arrow next to “Coaching staff” and a big green one next to “Steven Jackson” :(. We should give some love to the receivers. Gibson and Amendola 6 catches on 7 targets each and Robinson 5 on 6 targets, impressive.
Take the leash off of the offense pleeeeeeease.
Signed, Rams fan.
