Any thoughts on Devin Thomas?

The Washington Redskins cut Devin Thomas today.  Thomas was the 34th overall pick in 2008, only two picks behind our own Donnie Avery.  Thomas, at the time, was the number one ranked receiver in the draft.  Now, I'll tell you that I live in Washington DC, and know all too well how terrible the skins passing game has been over the past three years, with Jason Campbell never really panning out, Jim Zorn being unfairly thrown into a job he never stood a chance to be successful in, and now a Mike Shanahan lead offense that will always be run-first.  I know we're constantly writing/responding to posts about picking up recievers (namely #1), but wanted to know what everyones thoughts are on picking up someone like Thomas, who can be claimed on waivers, and probably for cheap.  He's a guy who's built, has size, and speed.  He was recently told by the coaching staff that he had to stop lifting weights.  His stats arent going to wow anyone, but his athleticism should. Dude's an animal.....what do ya think, Rams fans?

lol

dreams do come true don’t they?

I miss the good old days of Warner to Holt

No thanks

Since we can’t sign him onto the practice squad, I’d rather stick with what we have, Clayton, Amendola, Gibson, Gilyard and Robinson. The only one I can see him replacing is Robinson, it depends I guess if the FO has given up on him, but at least he knows the system already.

Why cut a receiver?

With Uh Oh and Bajema coming back and we already have Fells and Onobun healthy, we could cut Darcy Johnson to make room.

It’s not like we’d lose any productivity.

Didnt say we'd have to cut anyone, but

We’re constantly posting/debating about getting Vincent Jackson or Larry Fitzgerald. Who would you be cutting if we were to pick one of them up? I like our receivers, but that doesnt mean that theres not room for improvement.

I know Thomas was well like amongst his teammates, and the media around these parts was somewhat baffled as to why he never got any play other than special teams. If you’re not one of Shanny’s fav’s then dont expect to see the field no matter how talented you are (see: Haynesworth, Albert)

I'd give up anyone outside of Danny and Mark for Larry Fitzgerald.

Hell, if I really had to, I’d give any of those guys up for him. Definitely my favorite receiver in the league.

I'm starting to like Pat Shurmur.

I rather cut Totson than Chauncy.

I'd rather cut Darcy Johnson than any of them.

"If Dr. Frankenstein were to steal body parts and construct a perfect QB, the final product would look like Bradford. He has John Elway's size, Dan Marino's arm, Kurt Warner's accuracy and Stephen Hawking's brain."

why not...

a second rounder with good size and speed. he could really stretch the field for us.. mark clayton just isnt fast enough to run streaks all day.. plus my madden team will benefit for it.. pull the trigger lol

If it means getting rid of Darcy Johnson, then yes, definately.

Darcy needs to go because:
Onobun > Gates... And because Darcy sucks.

by Carneros on Oct 9, 2010 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

Okay

Dudes, I got to say stop looking for the pie in the sky reciever. It don’t matter who you get Sam throws to who ever is open. I’m so tired of the hunt for Mr. #1 WR, Christ man let it go, we got all we need in the no-name offense and defense.

by OakCityRam on Oct 9, 2010 7:27 PM CDT reply actions

but a true number 1 is almost always open.... plus if they have to double our receivers then think of the extra lanes sjax will have.

the giants said the same thing with eli but ever since plax they haven’t had a convincing season. the number one is a legit problem

by mh39 on Oct 9, 2010 10:05 PM CDT up reply actions

#1's

aren’t always open… They can just make the big plays when we need them. I’m all for one but he’s right, Sam spreads the ball so well. He really doesn’t NEED one, I’m still down with a DE in the draft. Though watching all of those college receivers play the way they did today…it’s a tough call.

I'm starting to like Pat Shurmur.

I disagree

Why stop looking for improvements. They don’t have to be pie in the sky to help our squad. We don’t got all we need, yet.

by dbcouver on Oct 10, 2010 2:21 AM CDT up reply actions

That was the point of this posting

how would Thomas be a ‘pie in the sky’ receiver? What I think he could be is a steal!

by DCRamFan on Oct 10, 2010 9:43 AM CDT up reply actions

Sure is.

Ignorance is bliss and way too many people are happy.

Not sold on Thomas

The guy is a physical specimen and I thought he would be key player on that Redskins receiving unit. He must have been pretty bad for them to give up on him so quick especially considering the depth left on that team isn’t much to speak for with Santana Moss, Malcolm Floyd, Joey Galloway and a bunch of throw in players. This link on him does not have very many positivies on him.

Is it just me, or does Sam Bradford look like he can be one of the Jonas Brothers?

by NachoD on Oct 10, 2010 1:30 AM CDT reply actions

Didn't he drop a pass against us?

I remember hearing his name in the game somewhere. Anyway, when your only good receiver is an aging Santana Moss then getting cut is clearly a huge knock on his talent.

I'm starting to like Pat Shurmur.

by douchiedude on Oct 10, 2010 3:26 AM CDT reply actions

yes, i really didnt want him

but if mark clayton is out for the season im not that opposed.

At this point we better bring him in

Clayton’s gone and our WR corp is in a death spiral

Steven Jackson .... Boss

Apparently

Since we’re not bringing him in.

Darcy needs to go because:
Onobun > Gates... And because Darcy sucks.
