St. Louis Rams sign S Michael Lewis
The St. Louis Rams signed S Michael Lewis today to shore up a banged up secondary.
James Butler, the primary backup to SS Craig Dahl, was out of practice today and out at least for this week with a knee.
Lewis had a starting job in San Francisco before he asked for his release early in the season. The 49ers replaced him with rookie Taylor Mays. The Lewis saga is an interesting chapter in the decline of the San Francisco 49ers this season. A veteran leader that was respected by the team, there were whispers that he and Mike Singletary had some issues as the team collapsed after an 0-3 start.
Lewis made the Pro Bowl in 2004, and played with Spagnuolo in Philly.
Lewis is a good starter at SS, but not a guy who you want to depend on in coverage. This is a good addition, not to mention what a bonus it is to pick up some debris from the 49ers destruction.
Anyone think that Lewis will be fired up to play his former team in week 10?

I think he would at least help us keep fresh legs out there this week
However, he will be very pumped to make his former team regret the path they have taken. I’m kind of excited about the veteran leadership he will bring to the secondary, especially if Butler misses extended time.
Also, as a 9 year veteran, he should pick up the defense quickly.
I guess the Rams feel good about the health of Bartell, Fletcher, et. al
Either that, or the free agents just weren’t worth it
I'm sure he is licking his chops waiting for week 10!
And to be honest, so am I. I love NINER WEEK!
Is it just me, or does Sam Bradford look like he can be one of the Jonas Brothers?

Lewis may not be good in coverage
but Butler and Dahl are terrible as well. Strong safety must be addressed in the offseason.
Butler and Dahl are certainly not terrible in coverage
they are fairly average safeties i’d say

No they aren't
I think Bernie said yesterday that Dahl has been targeted 20 times and quarterbacks have completed 17 passes his way.
Butler susceptible to big play
Neither of these guys are suitable in coverage. Butler was caught in man coverage and has been burnt for 2 TDs this year.
Feuding with Singletary.
Not a red flag at all. Completely understandable. I’d probably feud with that knucklehead too.
