Rams DE Chris Long named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

The honors just keep adding up for the St. Louis Rams and their players this week. DE Chris Long was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his two sacks, two hits and a pressure against San Diego last week.

The Rams also won by a landslide for the victory of the week

In other news, the Rams promoted LB Curtis Johnson to the active roster from the practice squad. CB Antoine Thompson takes his spot on the practice squad.

Bernie Miklasz at the PD has a great grab bag of stats on Sam Bradford. The rookie's been great on long third downs. But here's a number that might shock you: the Rams did not drop any passes last week in their win over the Chargers

ESPN's Mike Sando puts RB Steven Jackson on his MVP watch list

Good for Long...

…a couple more outings like this and the haters won’t be able to call him a bust anymore. Great recognition for a great young DE.

Good

As good as he is, the stats don’t often reflect it. Glad to see that in a week where the stats line up with what he provides, he gets the honor. Keep it up, Big Chris.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Congrats Chris.....

great game by you and the rest of the Rams on Sunday! Keep that motor going this weekend in Tampa Bay.

From Bernie Miklasz’s article it sounds like they need to call the same passing plays on 3rd and < 7 yards that they are using for 3rd and 8+ yards!!!!

Go Rams!

His motor

He reminds me of Wistrom. Anyone else?

by Pekka for Predator Pontiff on Oct 20, 2010 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions

I'll always remember a play...

Where Wistrom ended up crossing through the backfield, heading to the other side of the field and then running down and tackling a WR. The man had no quit in him.

He's had so many pressures and hits...

…and been such a terrific presence in the backfield, you just knew it would translate into sacks sooner or later.

And like that idramsfan said...

Let’s see the D keep it up for Tampa! Tampa, Carolina, and San Francisco? If you’re reading this, try to make it 6-3, Rams! I know you can do it!

by Terminus Est on Oct 20, 2010 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

6-3 is absolutely within reach

Congrats to Long and the entire Rams organization.

Man did we get hit with a strong wave of bots.

Sam Bradford drops back, sees Laurent Robinson in the open, and he completes the pass for a gain of 28! Oh- Wait, looks like a holding penalty is going to call this one back...(Oh wait; Barron's gone, ignore that last sentence).

yea and it really sucks

I cleaned house a little

they’ll need to make new accounts to get back in. More trouble for them than it is for me, but there’s only one of me…unless other guys want to do the dishes sometimes, because yeah, it sux to have a nice honor post like this hijacked.

CONGRATS, CHRIS~!

Back to our regularly scheduled programming, congratulations to Chris Long for serving up a sweet reminder why no one should just our draft picks by their first year’s work. Chris started really coming on in the last half of his 2nd year and now, in his 3rd, is finally getting the recognition for his effort.

Well done, my man.

….judge our draft picks…

but you probably knew that

by CoachConnors on Oct 21, 2010 11:40 AM CDT up reply actions

It did irk me when people were yelling 'BUST!' after one year.

I mean… How many DEs end up having double digits sacks right away?

So Proud of Chris Long...

Its like our little guy is all grown up…Finally…

Good job Chris Long

No one has seen more criticism and scrutiny and this is a well-earned honor. There’s a lot to be said about going through tough times and then getting recognition like this. It means so much more, and feels better for him I hope. Credit to his character as well.

Heres to all you

guys who said Long is a bust you were wrong.
