Looking Ahead : 2011 Draft

Stay connected for news and updates

When we consider the future of the Rams' WRs its clear that even with Mark Clayton and Donnie Avery healthy, we still do not have a clear #1. I think that we should be looking into the 2011 draft's deep pool of WRs.

A bit more after the jump.

I don't want to condemn the 2010 season for the Rams, but I think that we will be drafting pretty high. I don't think we'll be in the top 5 picks, but we'll probably be in the top 10 picks, and I think definitely in the top half of the league. Currently, the speculation is for us to draft Robert Quinn (DE from North Carolina) with our first round pick. However, that projection assumes we are drafting either # 1 or 2. I don't think this is likely, partially because we have Hall, Long, and Selvie holding our DE position and we do not need a first round DE. A late round pick in the position may still be on the board

Right now, my thoughts for the 2011 draft are as follows:

*NOTE: These picks are all for the first round. MID ROUND is describing picks should the Rams find themselves with a relatively low pick in the first round this year.

- Increase our talent on the D-Line to give Spags more flexibility in the pass rush. HIGH pick: Marcell Dareus (Alabama) MID ROUND: Stephen Paea (Oregon St.)

- Grab a good pass rushing OLB would be another addition for Spags to work with. HIGH pick : Von Miller (Texas A&M); Bruce Carter (North Carolina) MID ROUND: Akeem Ayers (UCLA)

LATER ROUNDS: Dontay Moch (Nevada)

- Find us a #1 WR! HIGH pick: AJ Green (Georgia) (This would be my dream) MID ROUND: Jonathan Baldwin (Pitt)

What are your takes on this? Is all of this speculation premature? Finally, where do you see the Rams drafting?
