Rams don't want Devin Thomas
It was reported earlier that the St. Louis Rams were kicking the tires on recently nixed Washington WR Devin Thomas.
With Mark Clayton lost for the season, the Rams have real questions at wide receiver, particularly guys who can play on the outside since Laurent Robinson has been disappointing and Brandon Gibson can't seem to hold on to anything.
Word comes now that Devaney himself is saying no to Thomas, killing the report before it moves any further.
There was probably nothing the Rams could have done with Thomas, who has done nothing of note other than get on the wrong side of the Shanahans in Washington.
In the meantime, they'll probably have to keep searching. The NFL Trade Deadline is October 19, a week from Tuesday.

well this sucks
and it makes up look more desperate giving other teams more leverage….I would love to add vincent jackson, but today has brought me back to reality on what we can expect from this team. Do we really want to give up multiple picks for a guy that’s already been suspended and is just one DUI from being banned for a year? tough call..
Same thoughts here...
I want Vincent Jackson but it may be too much risk… On the other hand, I think we need to take risks if we want to be successful. Playing conservative all the time won’t help us get to where we want to be…

What would you rather see?
The Rams go 7-9 miss the playoffs, thus getting pick 13-15….Or the go 3-13 stay in most games but get top 5 pick??
to be honest I would rather them go 3-13 or 4-12 and get a top 5-7 pick to get another elite player (AJ Green) and an OLB in the 2nd round then in 2011 they would have a very good chance of winning the West
This draft is deep.
We do NOT want to give up draft picks because we can get first round talent in the second and maybe even the third in the upcoming draft. Unless we can get a Sidney Rice or a Calvin Johnson, keep it.

hes 6 5 220 thats all u need to know about him
hes currently sitting on the jets practice squad after they bumped him down there to make room for santonio holmes. he played at usc. he doesnt have blazing speed but hes a big physical guy who we could really use in the red zone.

from what I remember
he doesnt have amazing ball skills for a bigger/slower guy. He’s got Dwayne Jarett potential, but it just seems highly unlikely he even comes close (and that’s saying something with Dwayne not being so hot).
I’m of the thinking that we holdout on grabbing anyone, let Gibson get his hands going, Robinson get his game back, Gilyard get his kinks out, and our TE’s get an expanded role. I think our team has a couple more wins in them, and this may have been an outlier in the season.
Plus we gotta save money for our next big threat.

Julio Jones for Rams 2011....NOT Devier Posey!!!
AJ Green
not Julio Jones…jones can’t catch
AJ Green is always the first choice.
Baldwin is my second one though and Jones third. I like Jones but you’re right, he does drop passes occasionally and McElroy looks pissed when it happens lol. Green first, a dominant DE that falls out of the first in the second round and BPA out of OLB or DT in the third.

I wouldn't mind Quinn then Floyd.

Is Stltoday crashing anyone else's browser?
All day long it has crashed multiple browsers on my computer – I can’t figure it out
Vicent Jackson on the radar again?
When I saw Clayton going down and not getting up right away, I felt that the worst just happened (other than having Bradford or Jackson injured). After Clayton left the game, the offense collapsed. It was dishearting to watch. Bradford trying his best and nobody could hold onto the football (except for maybe Amendola). He has nobody to throw to right now. The Rams reminded me of the ’09 Rams… Dead man walking there.
Do you think the FO is going to make a strong move here or are we saying bye to the season already?
Throw some positive thoughts please. Today’s performance and losing Clayton for the season was totally demoralizing. Go Rams!

I don't want a guy who's willing to hurt his team for an entire season so he can make more money for himself.

One argument against this thought
is would you continue to work at a place if all of a sudden they decided to pay you essentially minimum wage?
This is such a hard argument to comprehend.
Should I take the poor Multi Millionaire’s side against the oppressive Billionaires side. Minimum Wage? Dumb very dumb argument.
You can't look at it as oh my god he makes so much more than me and the average american
…Of course he does…and you want to know why? Vincent Jackson holds a skill set a very tiny percentage of the population holds…his performance undoubtly puts him near the top of his position. Taking a salary 1.5 million to play and possibly injure himself when he is worth 3 times that amount, in his view is reckless. Do I feel sorry for him? No. Do I understand what would drive him to sit out? Yes. I never said he was making minimum wage, but you have to look at it in perspective. I’m not taking sides here, I’m just presenting an argument.
Needed to communicate that better.
Never,Ever use the word Minimum with millionaires.
Looks like you learned.
If a lockout happens how much is that skill set worth?
How much has VJ lost now as compared to the “possible” gain?
"Team First Attitude"
I think that is the most important pillar. Not one person on the current Rams team would do this. Steven Jackson, even though he did hold out, always puts the team first and would not sit out an entire year. And besides, Steven Jackson is a lot better at what he does than Vincent Jackson is.
Darcy needs to go because:
Onobun > Gates... And because Darcy sucks.
And an argument against that would be
That Vincent Jackson would still be making plenty of money, and it actually benefits him to play this season. But now that he’s not playing, he’s making no money at all (and I think 1.5 million or whatever the tender was is better than 0.) He’s also costing himself money in free agency next year. So he’s benefiting in no way at all from this holdout but he is too stubborn to put an end to it.
And there’s also the risk of him missing all of next season if he gets another DUI.
Just not worth it. He’s not even that good. If we were going to go after a receiver like him, Brandon Marshall would’ve been the guy to go after. He is a lot better.
Darcy needs to go because:
Onobun > Gates... And because Darcy sucks.
Rams need to sign Patrick Turner
And while it comes with little risk to the Rams, it does bring huge possible upside. Though Turner has had injury issues, he is 6.5 .
This move is smart for the Rams, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain, why not sign this receiver who could turn out to be a monster at wide out.
If Patrick Turner was so good he would be starting now.
We don’t need just height we need a playmaker. Vincent Jackson would be nice if we could pry him from AJ Smith, Benard Berrion (sp) from Vikings could be an inexpensive option.

So what WR's do the Eagles or Giants have on Practice squad?
Is not that the real question?
Rams are what they are. We need our TE’s to get healthy fast and our current group of WR’s learn to catch.
Note: If someone can teach these WR’s to catch, please send a message to our DB’s.
Turner
I was looking at him and I don’t think picking him up would be a bad idea.
Good lord, the receiving options out there are brutal.
Devin Thomas? Patrick Turner? spew
I’d rather just stick with what the team has, unless they plan on making some sort of trade that doesn’t gut next year’s draft.
Even though the cards won
Going into the week, this was a real opportunity for us to grab a true lead in the NFC West and gain some respect. What’s really depressing for me is how bad we laid a stinker in a game of such magnitude early in the season, versus an 0-4 team.
Now I am dazed AND confused as to where we are really at.. was this a young team that faced it’s first real struggle (learning curve), or were those two wins just catching tams on a bad day, so to speak.
Almost reminds me of when Haslett took over as interim head coach and we beat Washington and Dallas, then didn’t win another game the rest of the season.
And the injuries? You’ve got to be kidding me! If I were a wide receiver i’d think twice about coming to St. Louis… unbelieveable

The Dallas and Washington games...
… Also crossed my mind here VT. I would still be hopeful if we hadn’t lost Clayton… Now, I am really discouraged… Unless the FO makes some kind of move…

Your thoughts on this trade...
What do you guys think about trading our third round pick and Gilyard for Vincent Jackson? I personally have been disappointed at Mardy. He doesn’t look to have top speed and slips a lot. I would see this trade as a low risk – high reward type of deal. Feel free to replace VJ for another #1 WR out there in this trade thought.
by abiRam on Oct 11, 2010 9:36 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
I don't know how much value Gilyard would add to the trade.
Darcy needs to go because:
Onobun > Gates... And because Darcy sucks.
We should've just drafted Carlton Mitchell instead of Hall Davis.
Not saying I knew Davis would be a bust, but I wanted Mitchell the entire draft.
