2010 Pro Bowl open thread

Hey, today's the Pro Bowl...

[crickets chirp]

Ok, so the Pro Bowl's really more of a "thing" because it recognizes the league's best players...sort of. The game itself is pretty meh, no matter how hard the NFL is working to drum up more interest. In my house, this is one of those Sundays where you have to pay back all the hours monopolizing the TV for football, cede the remote to the wife so that she can watch the Grammys...an awards show that means about as much as the outcome of the Pro Bowl.

Consider this the Pro Bowl (or Grammys) open thread.

He dropped out due to injury.

Unfortunate, I would have watched if he were in it.

He didn't need the backboard on that one!

How about

the winning conference gets the losing conference team’s 7th round pick… make the game interesting

I say move the Super Bowl to Indonesia...

and then move the Pro Bowl to the week before the playoffs (have a one week break between WK17 and Wild Card Weekend). Then, have the winning conference get the entire first round. You would take all teams from the winning side and order them 1-16 like the do now with the entire league. Go through that order twice before doing the final 6 rounds with both sides selecting, but the winning side gets the first 16 picks and the losers are ordered and get the final 16 of each round.

It would really help get a ton of ticket sales and a large TV audience.

In all that, I forgot to actually mention the word "draft."

That’s what I mine with the ordering and numbers and rounds and stuff.

The laws in Indonesia

would have half the players getting literally whipped in the town square within the week.

They should do that

although it does sort of exclude defense players a lot, unless you basically make it a combine.
I don’t think the game is really necessary at all. Very few people watch it, it doesn’t make a difference in anything and its only an injury risk. Probowler should be strictly a title for the top players..

by Carneros on Jan 31, 2010 6:53 PM CST up reply actions

they should skip the game entirely.

and do a week of head-to-head NFC v. AFC paintball, par 3 golf, team tennis, ballroom dance, and quiz bowl. I would watch those.

Sadly, so would I and most of America.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Jared Allen and Lamar Woodley trying to answer quiz questions about the Peloponesian War or British Literature would be must-see TV. Especially if Cris Collinsworth hosted.

please, don't eat my potato chips.

by CrazyEyesKilla on Jan 31, 2010 7:48 PM CST up reply actions

Or just let Jared Allen talk about mullets instead of the game.

I’d pay to listen to that for 3 hours.

He didn't need the backboard on that one!
