Random Ramsdom: Jan. 14th, 2010
Well, another day in the offseason. I wish sometimes you could just fast forward to April (after you watched all the playoffs, of course...minus the Pro Bowl). I'll get the division weekend pick'em up and ready to go later today, sometime in the early afternoon. Onto today's links:
- If you're wondering what some other Rams fans are thinking, here is a link to Mike Sando's Ram only mailbag.
- The talking heads over at STLToday have their next question: what will happen to Marc Bulger?
- Personally I've been a skeptic, but Will at Ramsherd has convinced me: the turf monster is real.
- A bunch of articles from the one and only Jeff Roman over at Ramsgab: He has a breakdown of the top ten team needs for this offseason, a continuation of their "who to keep" series (this time at the LB position) and as he points out, the Rams will be facing off against a certain familiar face next year.
Enjoy Thursday!

And play on dirt?
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.
Or..
we could stick with the same surface each year… broken dreams and tears. Sigh….. but the Turfmonster doesn’t help the Rams at all. Something needs to be done.

easier said than done.

I tried that. It didn't help
But it did make drinking Rum a lot more fun. Less painful than my 1-15 season.
The big issue is that new turf is put in every year ... there's apparently value in "wearing it in"
From Jim Thomas, two full seasons ago:
"There also is a train of thought by some at Rams Park – coaches I’m speaking of – that the turf at the Edward Jones Dome is causing some problems. It currently is replaced every year because the technology isn’t there to remove Field Turf and store it after every season. Because of that the turf never really gets broken in before it’s replaced. (There simply aren’t that many football games played in the dome over a year’s time.) And becuase of that extra friction because the turf isn’t broken in, it could lead to more turf injuries. I believe the vast majority of ankle, foot, and leg injuries to the Rams occurred at the dome last year, not on the road."

Sadly, nothing has changed.

Makes sense
A lot of our play was on a sandlot level, so we might do better, the guys would feel more at home.
Riddle me this?
In my limited understanding, partly due to my mental capacity (ha ha) and the other part due to the complexity of the issue, IF the NFL gets is way in the Supreme Court case vs America Needle, it will be considered a single business entity or 32 different businesses. If that is the case, should the Rams move back to LA because the NFL ruled that they should/need to stay in LA but the Rams ownership said it is my business and I can do what I want to regardless of the NFL ruling. The same reasoning applies to the Colts and Baltimore, the Browns and Cleveland and Al Davis and what and whereever he decides to move.
The basics of the NFL vs American Needle case is that the NFL is in a single producer contract with Reebock.
Thoughts? Logic thoughts please?
I'm a firm believer in owners rights
But the NFL should have the right, and the obligation IMHO, to protect it’s customers,(fans) from profit-gouging business decisions. The only requirement of a franchisees freedom to move their business should be a transparent business analysis, proving need. I believe this procedure is in place is it not? Either way the owners should also have the obligation to protect their employees from personal injuries. In any other industry, this pattern would have been recognized and addressed much earlier.
