Rams may get beat, but it ain't because we didn't try...

Frankly, the last two Ram squads reminded me a lot of the inept 1976 Tampa Bay Bucs expansion team. But, I've got to admit somebody's definitely tried to change things this year. We have a new front office, new coaching staff and several quality new players. I still won't brag on the draft though. However, I think the thing that may help us the most this year is the departure of about half the old team. A lot of these guys had just plain gotten accustomed to losing. We start this season without some former great players and a lot of guys that never lived up to the lowest expectations. The list is long; Holt, Pace, Looker, Pisa, Fahkir, Chavous, Green, Leonard, Becht, Bennett, Glover, Hall, Leckey, Romberg, Tye Hill, Klop, Carriker (injury) and on and on (and, Marc Bulger may well join this crew next year unless his performance improves dramatically).  More importantly, there's still cuts to be made, so don't be surprised who gets chopped. I like this approach. I'd much rather field a team composed of a few stellar players and a lot of hungry new guys wanting to win, rather than group of highly paid perennial losers. We'll know some key things pretty darn soon. Can Chris Long cut it?  Was Jason Smith really the best 2nd pick? Did Jacob Bell just have an off year in 2008?  Can Barron finally get the snap count down correctly? Can Incognito restrain his Kyle Turley instincts?  Can a group of no-name receivers play effectively with a QB used to throwing off his back foot? Will having a big mean Center and FB help SJax regain the magic? And, finally, can our D-Line do anything to plug up those gaping holes created for opposing RB's the last two years? We'll see what happens in Seattle. I'm actually glad the Rams have a tough one on the road to start. Nobody, I mean nobody, will give us a chance in this one. So if we shock the SeaChicks at home, we'll shock the rest of the NFL and the Peter Kings of the world.   Good luck Rams!

The sad thing is

it shouldn’t be shocking if we win. I fully expect the betting line to be closer than the traditional media’s approach.
My inner conspiracy theorist is wondering, though, how bad the media really thinks the Rams will be vs. how much they stand to profit from the “the Rams are taking the football world by storm” meme.

Your uncle molests collies.

We are rebuilding

By definition we probably should still lose about 12 games, in that it’s not much of an improvement except that we reversed directions and went down a new road. We need to do better in the draft though. I know some want to exercise patience but thats the first area we could have seen improvement. Theres no reason we couldn’t have gotten more draft picks. And theres no reason not to expect all of our draft picks to be good enough to have made the team. This fan will never be accustomed to losing, or doing our best in adding to the team through the draft.
Oh and by the way, it’s no coincidence that the Patriots made the news by gaining yet another first rounder. Being from the Raiders, it’ll probably be a high first rounder that will turn into a low first rounder and a second rounder.

Five of our seven

draft picks are on the 53 man roster, one (7th round) is on the practice squad and one (5th round) on IR. Sounds like seven out of seven to me.

There’s no reason we couldn’t trade our first round pick except that no one else wanted to jump up that high and pay that much for the player taken there. We could have traded our second rounder, but then we wouldn’t have our starting middle linebacker. We probably could have traded out of our third and fourth round picks and gotten more late round picks, but is that really what you wanted us to do?
