Changes for next year?

Alright, this is purely speculation from the head of me but I feel some of these moves would improve the talent of this team drastically, and maybe put us in contention in the West again. Here are some of my moves for the offseason:

1. Sign Braylon Edwards. Sure, hes had his problems in CLE, but hes a huge receiver and a game changer when hes catching the ball. Edwards, Avery, Robinson would make a pretty good WR core.

2. Draft Sam Bradford, release Marc Bulger. Lets swallow our pride and let go of a lost cause, Marc Bulger. He just isnt the same quarterback and we need a QB thats gonna bring some tenacity to the team and a winning mentality. Right now, Im assuming Bradford comes back healthy and dominates like last year. Also maybe Snead from Ole Miss.

3. Add a monster in the middle of the D-line. I dont know who that is just of yet, but we need someone to help out our ends and LB's. We could go about this by using a high pick other than our number 1, or sign a FA. If we can add a force to the inside, that makes Long, and if we bring back Little, so much better. Right now, people can just man handle our ends because no one is afraid of our DT's.

4. Add a outside LB. With Witherspoon and Lauranitis set up to be our two starting LB's for awhile, we need to go out and finish the other side.

5. Another good corner? Bartell is set on the other side, and I dont know how the whole King, Wade, and group are going to do the rest of the season but adding another good corner opposite Bartell would be nice.

Also, thoughts on the O-Line next year? Do you think we resign Barron? If so, does he start on the left or right side and where is Jason Smith next year?

Thoughts?

I agree with these ideas

I’m not sure how much money we can spend this offseason but if we can afford to sign either Braylon Edwards or Brandon Marshall who will both likely be free agents that could be a big help to the passing game. They both have problems, but I’d still like their talent on our receiving corps. I also think we need to give Keenan Burton more catches this year. He has been good when he’s in and he has been better than Avery. We definitely need to get a QB in the draft, and a DT better than Carriker through free agency.

SHURMUR NEEDS TO GO, Avery needs to get it going.

yeah this draft thing

is too risky we really should draft the highest skilled players instead of a need. And free agency is the way to go for immediate impact someone who we know is good and can play ball. And quarterback is the biggest issue and the hardest to solve we need to find our guy and build around him. I think another big issuie is this defensive line their so slow arron rodgers had his way moveing around the field. If we solidify this unit we will have more takeaways less yardage on both passing and running plays and an over all confusion for the offense to find a rythym. Chris long is ok back up and little is the only one playing hard and he’s ancient. we have a couple people playing DT we know little about but are decent subs. We’ve been working on this since 2002 and all that class is gone. We had bryant young anthony hargrove and bryce fisher who werent all that bad. But i think we should experiment with a hybrid linebacker/Defensive end in the 4th round maybe because i notice chris long and even gibson drop back in coverage at times but Gibson got beat by Rodgers on that touchdown run. win the trenches win the game get this problem on the right track.

you posted. I agree we need to pick up a #1 WR, but I don’t know if a problem child is the answer. Sure ppl learn from their mistakes and contracts can be written to ‘help’ players, but would he be disruptive to the team first thought process? He would be a good addition so don’t get me wrong. Also, Amendola will be appreciated once he learns this system more. He got here at a good time for him to make a statement on the field.
QB… I see Bulger can’t settle down and get in a rythmn. He’s lost it and I agree it’s time for his departure. I have always liked Bulger, but too many hits has made him this way. I’m not a fan of drafting a qb early as they seem to be mostly busts, but we do need one. Maybe we should have gotten Vick?!?
DT is the highest priority IMO. It was obvious against GB that we need more consistant pressure up the middle and let the guys on the sides do what they do. Rodgers had tons of time and his guys worked their way open.

IMO, Amendola will be no more than a 4th receiver.

the guy to look at is Ruvell Martin. He’s huge and has great hands. Every Packer fan I know (and I know more than I realized living here in the Chicago suburbs) absolutely loved Martin but understood they just didn’t have room for him. Every Pack fan I’ve talked to has said the exact same thing. “I hate to see the guy go.”

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Yes Ruvell

will make a big impact, but don’t count Amendola out as a 4th receiver. He will be a terrific slot receiver and is very similar to Wes Walker. I like what I saw from his return game and think he will make a positive impact. Of course, like you, IMO.

I was against drafting Bradford at the start of the year, because I assumed

Bulger would play well enough, where we would need someone else. I know it’s not his fault for the talent that’s been placed around him and I still maintain that he is a good quarterback, but Bulger is not getting younger and I don’t like the idea of passing up on three good quarterbacks in three straight years, Matt Ryan 08, Mark Sanchez 09, Sam Bradford 10.

With all the talk about

drafting a QB, should we throw in Null and see what he has first? Otherwise he’s another wasted draft pick to add to the pile.

i say in alow pressure already blow out game put him in

That way theres no pressure and there’s nothing to lose except more of our dignity

SHURMUR NEEDS TO GO, Avery needs to get it going.

by Carneros on Sep 28, 2009 5:44 PM CDT up reply actions

idk

about Bradford he seems pretty good but its so hard for a QB to transition to the next level. It can be done but i don’t want to pick him just because he’s popular i mean Jason smith was rated the best by about everyone but Michel oher in Baltimore is doing an incredible amount better. I think we have to wait til the college season is over to talk about drafting quarterbacks theirs still a lot to be played. And about putting Null in I know its a stretch but i wouldn’t mind seeing what hes got if we’re down alot plus he’s on are roster mine as well see if he can actually play since boller is apparently a fullback in some plays. Let’s just hang in their for the season and see what works and what doesn’t and fix that problem the best way possible draft, free agency, trade.

Responses

1.) If Edwards can be gotten on the cheap, I’m for it.
2.) Let’s see how Bradford responds when he gets back on the field. Snead has been VERY disappointing this year, but his tangibles are still there.
3.) We might get some guys to drop in the draft. I’m thinking Arthur Jones at Syracuse.
4.) Agreed, but so many holes to fill, it’s going to be tough to bring in top talent at all of these positions.
5.) Again, this is too many positions to be address in a single offseason

2 through 4 for sure...

Although, I think Little’s way past his prime and Chrissy Long is a flatout bust. We need an entirely new D front four. Can anyone believe this team used to field the “Fearsome Foursome?”

Draft Bradford or Locker

And go with Defense the rest of the draf. Sign Edwards if we can but I like possession type receivers who may not be as expensive. UNC had another receiver in the class of 09 who had great hands in the skills competition, I can’t remember his name.

by dbcouver on Sep 29, 2009 12:47 AM CDT reply actions

We should...

go out and make a splash next year and sign peppers.
As much as i would like the rams to draft a D-lineman in the first it looks like bradford might be our only option at qb. unless someone wants to use jeff garcia as a stop gap solution

"Next year" - we're beginning to sound like the Atlanta Braves of the 1980s

We’d better get some help fast on the D-Line cause Hall and Leonard will be gone, Adam Carriker ain’t coming back, and Chrissy Long is a major bust. Got to find the QB of the future and get at least two monsters up front on “D.”

by edpjr on Sep 30, 2009 7:51 PM CDT reply actions

Well, if we are the Braves of the 80's

I pray our next decade is like their 90’s – except w/ more championships.

I'll take it even without the championships

That team was filled with HoFers. Exciting for 162+ games a year. Lack of titles be damned, I’ll take a solid decade of regular season dominance any time.

(So says the Angels fan… although I bet you Cards fan can agree on that).

i really wish

Carlos dunlap and sergio kindle wouldn’t be bad but i think we could find someone 2nd or 3rd round that would fit nicely i’ll have to watch more college games. And btw those two guys really got to bradford i watched some footage and they where sacking him and always applying pressure which led to some really bad mistakes somthing he’d have to get used to coming to this team

by keeperskillz24 on Sep 30, 2009 10:09 PM CDT reply actions

Carlos Singleton

I’d love to have him. He could be available 3rd round or later. He’s listed at 6’9" on the Memphis website. He’d definitely complement Avery, since he’s almost an entire foot taller. He’s got to have big hands at his size which is always good for receivers. I’m interested in seeing this guy’s combine because I don’t know how fast or strong he is, and if he has anything above a 30" leap he’s got to be hard to defend.

That way we could get QB , DL, then WR. But hopefully we go best player available not best player available of a team need.

SHURMUR NEEDS TO GO, Avery needs to get it going.

by Carneros on Oct 1, 2009 9:12 PM CDT reply actions

Keith Null...

…needs to start playing now. This season is already a lost cause. Start Null so he can get a jump start on next year. Then we can draft a reciever, defensive end, outside linebacker and cornerback next year. Don’t take an offensive lineman in the first round. We need to add talent to the impact positions.

by NachoD on Oct 6, 2009 3:00 AM CDT reply actions

Thats assuming Null is good

we have no idea if he is or not

SHURMUR NEEDS TO GO

yeah

we are running out of things to blame or try, somethings gotta give soon.
