I can't stand it anymore. The Rams are no fun.

I didn't get back in time to watch the GB game today but the result did not surprise me. Another loss, our 13th in a row, and for the 3rd season in a row we're 0-3.  These losses came against some pretty mediocre teams too. I mean, heck, Detroit knocked of Washington today. Frankly, it doesn't seem to matter who is Coach, QB, D-Lineman or WR, these guys simply cannot play well together. There's no chemistry, there's no fire, there's no nuthin'. Our veterans are so used to losing that they fully expect too. The recent acquisitions are learning how to lose from consummate losers. And our last 4 or 5 first and second round draft picks should try Rugby or something. We got nothing except maybe Jackson and Lauranitis. For offense, just try putting in Keith Null and let him hand the ball to Sjax and Darby 90% of the time and see what happens.  It can't be any worse (unless Jax keeps fumbling). Maybe if we could pick up some 1st downs running we could also burn some clock and keep opposing offenses off the field a little bit.  It's worth a try. We got nothing, absolutely nothing, in the way of a "D" Line. It's high school calibre. Yeah, I know aged Leonard Little got a couple sacks today. But even a blind hog stumbles across an acorn every now and then. How many sacks and stuffs did he get when it really counted - like when we were being bombed? Where's the invisible man - Chrissy Long? Our "D" gave up another 400 yards today.  This Rams squad is bad on the top, in the core, and on the bottom. These recent players are the worst group to wear Ram uniforms since I started pulling for them in 1969. And this year's team is a total embarassment to anyone whoever wore the horns. I can't believe I'm paying for Direct TV to watch these clowns invent new ways to lose. AND...they're all being extremely well compensated for it; Bulger, SJax, Josh Brown, Jason Brown, Jason Smith, Chrissy Long, Jacob Bell, and Adam (IR)Carriker. For gosh sakes.... is Mike Martz still available? Are Az-Hakim, Isaac Bruce, Ricky Proehl and Grant Wistrom still alive? Can Marshall Faulk still walk? Could we get back a 40 year old Kurt Warner? How much to bring back Dre Bly, London Fletcher, Brandon Chillar, Madison Hedgecock and Kevin Curtis...? Please somebody help my laughing stock team!

Keeps fumbling?

He’s fumbled once and maybe you didn’t see the fumble but the play should have been blown dead because his forward progress stopped and he had 5 Packers on him. We did get 20 first downs today, 9 on the ground and 11 on the pass.

SHURMUR NEEDS TO GO, Avery needs to get it going.

I could not agree with you more Ed,i just wrote my frustrations out in another blog but you spelled it out 100% here with your statement. These guys are a complete joke of the NFL, It seems like whoever they draft turns out to be a flop, Chrissy Long ( loved the name by the way ) is a disgrace, and these picks go back many years thru many different staffs, so blame any one regime can’t be done. Its like someone literally put a curse on the squad because it is an atmosphere of losing and everyone is ok with that ( it appears to be )

You know whats most depressing?

Theres no end in sight if we treat the draft the same way every year as we have. We have nothing to build on but a few unproven young guys. I have faith in most of the young guys and I understand we won’t be a winning team for a couple of years, but a guy has to have hope. It would be nice to know that some draft day creativity would be in our future. We need 4-5 picks on the first day in 2010 and 2011, as well as more picks over all.

by dbcouver on Sep 27, 2009 8:22 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm curious how you'd suggest the team went about

acquiring 4 to 5 picks in the first two rounds.

I mean, I don’t think anyone would object to having 4 or 5 out of the first 64 picks, but that might fall under the category of easier said than done.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

by Tackle Box on Sep 27, 2009 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You got any better ideas?

I bring up draft day creativity and some knucklehead has to ask me to lay it all out on how to do it? That’s the best you got? Of course it’s easier said than done. I’m not askin you now to do anything so don’t ask me. I’m gettin pissed off at the lack of wins and maybe alittle more frustrated right now than neccessary, but I don’t have to design this crap out for bloggers, to expect the professionals to do it on the weeks leading up to the most important personnel day of the year. Other teams make draft day trades so it CAN be done. Maybe not 4-5 but 3-4, hows that? It’s being done every year. Who thinks our drafts are going as well as they can?
We start winning games and I’ll settle down. I don’t need to see the playoffs this year but I need to see progress, and i"m not seeing it. I’ve been a fan for a long time so I’m not used to winning, but I’ll never get used to losing. I’ve seen us go 1-15. I’ll never take off my rams hat, but I never want to see it again. It’s the apex of desperation to hope for the #1 draft pick but thats exactly where we’re headed. You can’t be this shitty and not get more performers on draft weekend than we’re getting.

by dbcouver on Sep 27, 2009 11:09 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Chill out.

The only reason I asked you is because I think too many people just flippantly state things like “we need 4 to 5 draft picks in the first 2 rounds every year!!!!” (among many other things) when they have no idea how tough it is to pull that off. New England has been doing things similar to that by trading away things that bring value (they’re also in a much greater postion roster-wise to make dramatic moves). Anyway, I’m asking, what value do we have to acquire those picks (4 to 5 or 3 to 4)? Steven Jackson? Well, you would probably get 1 first rounder for him. Doubt you’d get more than that in the first 2 rounds (maybe two 2nd rounders in consecutive years?).

But, I do think its funny that you got so mad about me asking you to think through your statement and expect me or Van or 3k or whomever to figure out how to do it. It’s like you come up with something that is border-line ridiculous and then you get pissed when I point it out since apparently you care more or know more since you’ve been a fan of this team longer than I have.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Excuse me?

      Who asked you?

by dbcouver on Sep 28, 2009 8:34 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No one.

But unless you missed it. You posted your thoughts on a public forum. If you don’t like being questioned, maybe you should keep ’em to yourself.

But, that’s fine. Keep making bold proclimations and don’t ever worry about either backing them up or actually thinking about them to see if they’re even remotely possible. That should turn out to be a positive contribution.

Besides, you said it in your response, you shouldn’t have to design this for bloggers. Okay, so you throw out an idea with no substance, I refute it, you call me a knucklehead and get defensive and then continue to claim you don’t need to explain or think through or “design” anything. You can just throw out ideas and assume everyone will go “yeah! MOAR PIKS PLEES!!!!!!!”

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Well in that case, we should be creative on draft day and get three 1st rounders

but don’t be a knucklehead ask me how, it’ll just happen

Someone has to take advantage of the raiders

Why can’t it ever be us. No one on this team should be untouchable for draft picks Then trade down once or twice a year

Who on this roster (outside of Steven Jackson)

would bring back a pick in the 2nd round, let alone the first round?

by Tackle Box on Sep 28, 2009 7:21 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If we had three first round picks in 2010....

…somehow we’d end up with a Tye Hill, an Adam Carriker and a Chris Long. Or maybe an Alex Barron or a Jason Smith. Ya see, the Rams cannot routinely draft quality players. This year we could’ve had Mark Sanchez or Aaron Curry. But instead of going after the best available players, we tried to fill a need, and got an OT that had a hard time beating out Adam Goldberg. Last year we got Chris Long and the year before that we took Carriker – what a success story both those guys are! Forget the draft. Since we’re obviously no good at it, let’s trade what’ll likely be the 1st overall pick for a couple proven NFL football players. Then let’s trade our 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounders for more players. Heck, let’s even give up 2011 and 2012 picks in trade for real players. We’ll have most of Bulger’s big salary off our backs next year so let’s trade him for what we can get, if anything. Maybe we can luck out and create a hodge-podge team of veterans like the 1972 Washington Redskins (the over the hill gang) that made it to a Super Bowl. After all, most experienced non-Ram NFL players actually think they can win games.

Bulgers salary

Were not gonna save enough from letting Bulger go to pay for 3 or 4 picks in the first two rounds

by johnniewarthawg on Sep 28, 2009 12:51 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That is very true.

And, to be honest. This team is probably going to have to get creative yet again if it ends up with the first or second overall pick in next year’s draft.

And nobody wanted to trade up for the big salary #2 pick. Looks like we might get stuck with another #2 or 1. Creative? Were gonna need Magic.

Guys, we just can't make good draft picks. Them's the facts.

This year we could’ve got Sanchez of Curry, but we chose Adam Goldberg-lite. Last year Bill Parcells snaked us out of Jake Long and left us with Chrissy Long. We know 2007 was a disaster with Adam (no talent and perennially injured) Carriker. We chose Tye Hill numero uno and managed to get a 7th round pick in trade a few years later. And is anybody really satisfied with Alex Barron? And what about high draft exits like Ryan Pickett and Damione Lewis? And just for ad nauseum, don’t forget second round choices like Brian Leonard and Joe Klopfenstein. Our monkey that throws darts at a board with draftee names on it only managed to hit a home with SJax and Lauranitis in the last half dozen years. Lastly, while it was definitely time for them to go, both Orlando Pace and Tory Holt have tasted victory again with their new teams. The STL Rams just ain’t got it.

by edpjr on Sep 28, 2009 5:15 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Only two people you mentioned in your "rant"

were drafted by Devaney and Spags. And one you called a “hit”. So I’m not exactly sure what point you’re trying to make since, just like some others, you refuse to accept the fact that Mike Martz, Jay Zygmunt, and Scott Linehan all got fired for doing a shitty job with roster management and drafting.

Of all the things you go on and on and on about, this subject is probably the most tiresome. Seriously. To pretend these guys are still making decisions for the Rams and to continue to bitch about guys that got fired for being incompetent is asinine and borderline psychotic.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

ya know Tackle...

you were off TST for about a month or so awhile back. Those were sure great times (sigh). And I’ve just started totally ignoring the kid that always lists a website address in his every post or reply. As long as the Rams keep losing, I’ll keep right on boring you with my “tiresome” opinions and prognostications for as long as you care to read and respond. You just keep right on defending and apologizing for our Sheep. Finally, why don’t YOU actually post something and see if it generates any interest? I have my doubts…

that web address is my signature--something that always shows up in every comment

if you click on it, you can find some insightful, well thought out analysis i do on the rams every week, something you don’t do.

you can bore us all you want with your draft bitching, but the point is it’s absolutely ridiculous. like tackle box said, bitching about draft picks that zygmunt, linehan, and whomever else made is just asinine. it’s over, a new regime is in place.

even more ridiculous is the fact that you’re judging jason smith based on TWO NFL GAMES. that’s just insane. if you were judged in your job after two days, you wouldn’t have one right now.

you just enjoy talking out of your ass (like 75% of this forum right now), and you hate it when other people don’t go along because they actually think about what they’re posting.

U R right, but go easy on the kid. He’s just a 19 yr old college student with a big mouth and no recollection of a winning Rams squad. He’s completely satisfied with losing. He’ll be defending Bulger, Long and co. if we’re 0-16. I’ll still be giving ‘em hell. Tackle, on the other hand, has no excuse. He’s just a blowhard.
Lastly, for the Jason Smith defenders, he had a lousy training camp in addition to a lackluster performance in the first two games. But, he’s only getting $33M

to be honest i like to talk about the rams on TST because no one here in Baltimore does and it’s fun. I have bad grammar and am not the smartest guy but i mean we are losing and what people repeat are problems, i admit it can get old real quick but it’s their opinion just ignore it and write your analysis. But don’t get on the 75% or what ever the number really is i don’t know how you came up with it. …it somehow perturbs you that most people are po’d at a team that’s lost 30 of 35 games and now owns the longest losing streak in the NFL. Maybe if you’d just apologize a little more for Bulger, or root a little harder for Jason Smith, or really encourage Chrissy Long, things would just get perfect in lala land.

Here is an outsider's perspective.

I am a Lions fan since the late sixties. So I know the agony of defeat and the near endless walk through the tunnel of despair and the never ending overhauls and rebuilding programs. My thoughts for what they are worth:

It is only three games into the season. Give your new guys a chance to learn and make mistakes before you call them busts. Ditto for your coaches.

Your team is bad, real bad, and will not get good overnight. Have some patience, and let the guys who know something about football and have the responsibility and authority to do it, fix it.

In the meantime feel free to vent and howl for those who need to. For the saner fans, my advice is to ignore those posts as they are debates that cannot be won. They are emotion filled rants that cannot be persuaded by logic or facts. You will drive yourself crazy trying to convince these guys that they don’t know what they are talking about.

A lot of Lions fans were suicidal after the first two games this year calling for Stafford to be benched or traded or cut, trashing the new coach and personnel director, etc., etc.
It is amazing what one win can do to turn that around.
This is the NFL. Anything can happen. Hope springs eternal.

Good luck, I hope you break your losing streak before you play us. Sincerely. I know how it wears on you.

A Lions fan from the 60s....do you remember....?

the Lions basically knocking the Rams out of the playoff chase in the 12th game of the 1970 NFL season? It was on MNF. Greg Landry and Detroit jumped out to a 21-6 lead and then held on to win 28-23 after a comeback bid by Roman Gabriel and co fell short. The Lions got the wild card at 10-4 and the Rams lost out at 9-4-1 finishing one game behind John Brodie and the 49ers in the NFC West. It was George Allen’s last year coaching LA. Nearly 40 years ago and I’m still peeved at you guys about it…

by edpjr on Oct 1, 2009 11:33 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No I don't. I mainly remember our start and end to that season.

Start; beat the Packers 40-0, then the Bengals 38-3. Then finished the regular season by shutting out the Packers again, 20-0, before losing to those damn Cowboys 5 [that’s right five] -0.
It all went downhill from there.

by NorthLeft12 on Oct 1, 2009 12:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm even a little sicker now...

…that we’re missing Robinson, Butler and our $33M man Jason Smith. I’m sorry to see anybody get injured, but the loss of Bulger was probably good for him and the team. His confidence must be crushed and he’s in no shape to lead this team. Boller has been cast in a role that could revive the stellar NFL career he had a few years ago at Baltimore or forever relegate him to a backup role. Keith Null has nothing to lose. Neither Bulger nor Boller have been able to engineer a win against 3 mediocre teams so far. If Null gets to play and we accidently win a game, he’ll be hailed as a hero. And, if we lose, everyone will say it was expected anyway. If that blankety-blank worthless D-Line of ours could ever have a good game of pressuring the QB and stuffing the run it would at least give us a fighting chance at a close win. The “Fearful Foursome” is absolutely the worst part of our generally baaad team.
