The time to push the reboot button has arrived for the Seattle Seahawks, and this week gave fans a glaring reminder of what happens when you pin championship hopes on an aging cast of A-list players. Sure Matt Hasselbeck could be back next week, but how long until he's lost for a significant amount of time? He's playing behind a third string left tackle.

Sadly, the Seahawks are still ahead of the Rams in the rebuilding race
Just looking at young talent on the rosters
Future franchise QB: nope, and nope.
Franchise RB: +1 STL (for about three more years)
WR/TE corps: +1 SEA
Offensive Line: wash, unless Jason Smith becomes a dominator.
Defensive Line: +1 SEA
Linebackers: +1 SEA
Secondary: +1 STL
Coaching staff: unknown.
If you blew up both teams right now, and kept only the young and promising and filled the rest of the roster with replacement-level players, the Seahawks would likely come out ahead.

tai, I gotta disagree
but you knew this was coming when you give the Seahawks credit in my presence.
WR/TE corps +1? If you’re looking at just “young talent”, then the only talent here for the Seahawks is John Carlson, or as I call him, Todd Heap, Jr. The Rams, however, have Donnie Avery, Laurent Robinson and Keenan Burton. Even if Burton continues on the path to disappearance, Avery and Robinson should combine for at least a wash against Carlson, no?
And you give the offensive line a wash? We’re younger, stronger and have MUCH more upside.
I guess your assessment depends on where you draw the line between the “young” and not young, but I have to disagree and suggest that if you blew up the rosters to keep just the young and promising:
a) You wouldn’t field either a full offense or defense.
b) You’d have the best young coaching staff in the NFL.
c) You’d have way too many good LBs.
d) You’d have more Rams than Seahawks

Denigrating Carlson in favor of Avery and Robinson is a mistake
Carlson has put a pretty strong resume up already, and shows no signs of a sophomore slump. Avery has not figured out how to deal with tight coverage, and while I have high hopes for Robinson, he needs to put 16 games on the field before I declare him a proven commodity.
And I agree that our offensive line has some upside, if you believe Incognito can keep his head on straight, and that Greco turns into something. But Barron, still young, is a goner on this team regardless of how he plays. And their young no-names stepped in and shut us out in week 1, which is more than our line did against Mebane, Tapp, Curry, and Lawrence Jackson. I think you vastly overrate the “strength” of our offensive line, but perhaps they just haven’t come together yet — and perhaps retaining last year’s O-line coach was a mistake.
Lastly, I refuse to call our coaches “the best young coaching staff in the NFL” until they actually learn how to manage a sideline. Again, I think there’s potential. But we’re seeing growing pains all over the field.
