Rams lose Jason Smith for one to two weeks; Jason Brown day-to-day
St. Louis Rams rookie offensive tackle has a sprained knee, and will likely miss one or two games. The Rams first round pick, second overall, played his way into the starting lineup in the waning days of the preseason, consistently showing improvement from game to game.
He has done well in pass protection, and his run blocking looked better this weekend too, I thought. Adam Goldberg will start in his place. For now, the dropoff isn't huge. Goldberg is a solid backup who has seen plenty of time in the starting lineup because of injuries in recent years. I say "for now" because Goldberg is at the top of his game, and Smith has a world of potential he's starting to grow into with more experience. Smith left the game this week in Washington during the second quarter.
C Jason Brown also has a sprained knee, but not quite as severe as Smith's. He's day-to-day.
The offensive line was not without its flaws this week. I think they're getting an undue amount of flak though. Early in the game they were a little sluggish, but got better throughout the game. One noticable element was better cohesion among the front five, something that I expect to improve as the season goes along. The Redskins got too much pressure on Bulger, but considering their front four, the o-line did a decent job. I'll be anxious to see how they fare against Green Bay's 3-4 on Sunday.

Well that is good news
I’d have been pretty discouraged if had turned out that Smith was out for the season.

Well here is the bad news
OUR OFFENSIVE LINE IS REALY BAD, WE DONT EVEN HAVE ONE TACKLE THAT IS TOP NOTCH
as far as im concerned our number one pick was wasted on J Smith, not the quality player you get for a number one pick,he is ok but nothing to right home about, as far as A.Barron well you can say all you want about how he improved and holds he own in pass protection but after the two games I say he cant hold his own ,in fact he cant hold shit, Hainesworth was pushing him around like he was a rag doll same with Brown in the middle of the line, Brown had help to double team and still could not open holes or defend the pass
our line is pathetic at best, week on the run blocking and week on the pass protection what else is there to say.The worst part of the Rams is the offensive line everything else is fixable but the OL is beyond repair

I guess if Albert Haynesworth is pushing you around
then you’re right, you do suck.

We needed a $33M man to beat out Adam Goldberg?
Please! Smith has disappointed everyone since training camp. Incognito is a Jeckyl and Hyde case waiting to go off at the worst possible time. And regarding Bell and Barron, anybody wanna say we got our money’s worth outta this duo? Now for the real surprise, the O-Line is better than last year. But I’m thinking Karney’s blocking is doing a lot to help keep Bulger upright. Orlando Pace was done, and is rightly gone from the Rams, but at least he tasted victory this week for the first time in a long time.

Smith, the draft & the OL
Smith is a solid player, and I still think he’ll be among the better tackles in the league when he hits his prime. You can see the skills the kid has on the field; it’s obvious. When you look at how much he tightened up his play since the preseason, it’s impressive. The guy is also a rookie; going from the lame Big 12 to the NFL is a huge leap. He is the best OT on the team.
Curry wouldn’t have done much for the Rams this year because he’s not a DT or DE. They need a top flight talent, 1st round type (Dunlap?) for the DL this year. If they do that, it won’t matter if Trent Dilfer is the QB (gotta credit 3k on the Dilfer reference). Sanchez look nice, but the Rams need a WR and DL way more than a QB in the short term. They can always get a plug in guy for the pocket in the West Coast offense, as long as they get the supporting cast around him, like a wide receiver. But I’m glad we didn’t draft Crabtree, because he’d be in street clothes now anyway.
I’ve been dubious about Bell myself, still am. But the fact of the matter is, this OL played well against a tough Redskins defense. How many times did Clinton Portis get through on 3rd and short? How many TDs did he have? That’s a tough matchup. The middle of the line was acceptable against Albert Haynesworth, and they’ll get better. Though I still don’t wonder if Bell is worth his contract, given what they’ve been able to accumulate at OG with relatively little investment.

Van we could have taken A.C and J.L ,and have two stud LBs now
J Smith is a good player but he will never live up to ORLANDOs level, but yet we took him with the number 2 over all pick, did you see the hit Curry put on S Jackson last week lol like WOW took him off his feet ,thats what im talking about ,thats what we need most right now , not a average OT

and we'd still have a crummy defensive front four
with AC and JL

i have been watching the NFL draft since 1970 and one thing stands out
as a rule the teams that make out best is the teams that take the best player available come draft day, the teams that try to pick for need seem to fail most of the time ,there are exceptions to this some times it works out to take the player you need but most of the time they fail to get what they were hoping for.On the other hand you cant lose no mater what if you just take the best player on the table,so why we did not take Curry everyone knows he was the top player in this year draft, I said it again this year just look at how many times the Rams drafted for need this past 5 years and not one of the picks is a hit, fact is most of the number one pics from the last 5 years are not even on this team any more ,what a waste of time and what a waste of number one picks

I have watched alot of football also
And those who decide whether a player is good 2 games into his career dont possess the mental capacity to inderstand anything football related. That being said, Aaron curry is a wash because he has been less than impressive so far. The list of hall of fame Nfl players with questionable rookie seasons is very long. BECAUSE THEY ARE ROOKIES

i wont go as far as to tell you about his hole career but i can tell you he is average
surely J. Smith is not the player you want with the second over all pick in the draft,if your happy with that i can tell you been waisting your time watching alot of football cause your missing the point
