Jason Smith to have MRI

The St. Louis Rams lost another first round pick, this time to a knee injury rather than to roster trimming. Starting RT Jason Smith, the Rams first round pick and second overall this year, left the game in the second quarter and did not return.

He'll have an MRI on his injury tomorrow. Smith's status is unknown.

Adam Goldberg some in for Smith and performed well enough. If Smith ends up out for an extended period of time, the Rams will have tapped out  their depth at a key position.

Not good news at all.

I never liked this guy as our 1st round pick, but we got him, and we need him to be able to play and improve. What good does it do to say it…? But I get nauseous when I think about 1st and 2nd round picks like Alex Barron, Tye Hill, Adam Carriker, Chris Long, Joe Klop, Brian Leonard…, yecch! btw, Did anybody notice London Fletcher today? He used to play for the Rams. So did Dre Bly, Brandon Chillar and alot of other defensive studs making plays around the league.

Right with Ya!

Aaron Curry was the best overall pick in the draft. Rams blew chunks. At least Laurinitus is turning out favorably thus far. I felt that both the 2nd and 3rd rounds offered opportunities for O.L., especially tackle. Look at the top tackles taken. Thus far, nothing news noteworthy. The one guy from Alabama got injured too.

Curry, Lauranitus, and then trade up a few spots to get Beaty

Gives us a better front 7 and probably an equal tackle.

Incognito needs to go, Shurmur needs to go, Avery's fumble-itis needs to go.

I just imagined Lauranitus and Curry wreaking havoc on the other teams. That would be a sick defense for years to come.

I have to love all you monday morning QBs so now you all like Curry ha lol

when i was screaming for Curry before the draft you all wanted J SMITH lol ,when i was saying you pick the best available athlete in the draft you were all saying no you pick for position that the team needs ,well we could have had Curry and Lauranitus with our first two picks this year and if last year we picked D Mcfaden and not C Long that would be two 1st round picks that would not have been wasted and we would have two super LBs and two super RBs

sure how can i not notice L Fletcher that won a super bowl with us in 2000

and ten years later he is still playing at a high level but like every other good player we had then we got rid of him and was never replaced ,

Correct me if I am wrong but...

Offensive linemen are just not what I would consider impact players. If I ran an NFL team I don’t think I would ever use a first round pick on an offensive lineman. Aaron Curry is looking good with the Seahawks and Mark Sanchez is looking good with the Jets. I still feel they should have taken a receiver somewhere in the first 4 rounds. Our defense is looking pretty hard so far and our special teams are good, we just need the offense to catch up. It’s pretty sad that in 8 quarters of football all we have mustered is one touchdown. One field goal today would have given us a win…..

Well, I don't know

I knew a guy back in the mid 1990s who’d been a fan of the same team for 30 years and even though that team had been struggling for a few years he hung in there. But when his team traded up to grab an offensive tackle with their first pick, he got so mad at them that he gave up on them and selected another team to root for. The tackle? Orlando Pace.

Once in a lifetime

All the analysts agree that an Orlando only happens once in a lifetime. I always said taking a O.L. for the 1st pick was not the right choice. Remember this, the field grounds keeper for the San Diego Padres knew as much or more than the so-called pros and became the General manager. So, how many fans could be a great G.M. in the NFL? I say more than one would think.

I'm not so sure about that but

I do know there are a lot of fans who think they could be great GMs.

Really?

Orlando Pace and Walter Jones played at the exact same time.

Yes Really

When considering the same team drafting a killer o.l. player. league wide, not every team has a great l.t. or even r.t.. Robert gallery was a bust for the Raiders. He got switched to guard and is doing better.

by jlcdb70 on Sep 21, 2009 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

The good ones do.

Maybe not Orlando Pace in his prime, but the good teams in this league have very good tackles. If you don’t, you fail.

I don't think that is what he is saying....

He is saying that you need good tackles to be successful in this league so it makes sense to draft one in the 1st rd if you believe that there is a potential bookend for your team (and nearly all highly paid GMs believe that as well).

I was a Curry guy, but I understand the logic

To your point though – since when do 1 rd picks become fail proof? I don’t know the numbers but my guess is that 50%+ 1st rd picks go on to suck in the NFL. Unfortunately, our John/Jay FO continously picked the sucky ones.

How about now?

How about Incognito? He is the only O-linemen that is blocking. All the big runs have come from his side and behind him. Does any fair wether football Rams fan still want to get grid of him. The two big runs of the year are last week where Donnie Avery held the DB and the play was called back and this week when Donnie Avery blocked the DB in the back. If there is anyone we need to get rid of, it is DONNIE AVERY! He can’t block, catch and doesn’t know how to run a pattern. But he is one fast fool.

I’ll take that as a compliment.
