True Reflection of game 1

OK, I have let the game soak in, and I avoided posting against my will last night.  I figure that I should be able to truely reflect on the team and their 1st game after a day and watching the Raiders choke.  It was a rough 1st outing.

Ok nothing was worse than sitting at the bar and having to listen to some deusch bags wearing their weak Seadonkey gear blabber, well almost nothing......the Rams performance was pretty bad.

Lets start with the O-line.

With the amount of money we have invested in our O-line, I have higher expectations.  Two 1st round dollar amounts sit on the outside.  One of the highest paid Centers in the league mans the middle.  One gaurd that was paid quite well in Free Agency a couple years back is on one side and one loose cannon on the other.  In all fairness, 3 out of the 5 are in a somewhat new surrounding.  Thats 60% of the line with new scenery.  Nothing is more important than comfortableness and continuity.  Consequently I expect over time this group will get used to their surroundings and the position they play.

On a different note....Richie Incognito has crossed the line.  He has shown me that he has little self control and puts his own emotions before his team or the task at hand.  This selfish mentality needs to be addressed immediately.  Due to the fact that this is not his first outburst, as a coach I take what is prized to him (his starting job) and explain to him that it will be waiting for him when he learns to be a professional.  Nothing is more important than a players ability to adapt and overcome adverse situations.  In the meantime we have a very serviceable, hard working young guy in Greco to fill in.  This sets the tone that the team comes first...above any one individual.

In regards to the game, Seattle is hands down one of the toughest places to play in the NFL.  If you can't hear snap counts, audibles, or any adjustments, you will have a tough time.  There were times i thought the line did ther job and gave Bulger the time he needed to do ...well......shit.  I see potential, especially if they can hear themselves think.

The Wide Receivers.  WE NEED HELP.  I said it before- we need veteran assistance.   Poor route running, not protecting the football, and making adjustments in mid-route to compensate for your QB getting flushed out of the pocket.  We are too green.  People were so enamoured with Avery's performance last year, that they don't realize he is not a true #1.  His life was much easier when Holt drew the attention and allowed him to have better match-ups.  Robinson, still shows glimpses of promise, but it does no good when you seperate and the QB can't find you.  He needs to do a better job of changing his pace.  Mcmichael had some good moments, and Bulger better take him out to dinner.  I think he will be one of his best options all year, even though he is not getting any younger or quicker.

Defense

CB's looked average.  I mean Bartell did well... he kept Housh from having a big day.  There were glimpses of decent stuff from the other DB's, but I'm not sure if this response is due to the fact that I am used to the group being so much worse.

The Safeties, were prob the highlight of our team.  OJ continues to impress and Butler looks like a nice adition, who knows the position.

The LB's did ok!  I liked what I saw from Lauranitis, especially for his first game.  Witherspoon looks good back at his spot.  Vobora looked ok, although I would like to see Brandon Spikes playing the SAM for the Rams next year,

D-line

We need help with our pass rushing.  We made a make shift line for Seattle look way too good.  Hopefully they can gel and maximize the creativity the new coach brings to the table.

All in all, I was happier with our Defense than I expected.  I see good things to come from this group, now we just need the offense to pick their shit up.

Two last points:

1)you prob noticed Bulgers name was left out....this was for a reason.  I am not over his perforamnce quite yet.  Its like the guy forgot what made him a decent QB.

2)Curry made me realize why I was pulling for him to be our #1 pick this year.  He is going to be a solid pro for years to come.

Out like any chance of winning our division.

Why the hell

didn’t our new defensive guru adjust the D to keep them from throwing underneath
and picking up every freakin’ third down play into a first and ten?
