Week 1: Rams at Seattle; New directions, old rivalry

St. Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks, Sep 13, 2009 3:15 PM CDT

Rams_logo_small_medium  Seahawks_logo_medium

What better way to start a new era of St. Louis Rams football than a trip to Seattle.

Steve Spagnuolo inherited a Rams team almost broken from years of mismanagement. Recent first round draft picks have been jettisoned to take up bench space somewhere else. Names that once graced the marquee exiled to make room for just one name in front of the building, just one name to stand for tough, passionate football, the only name on the marquee now is: RAMS.

St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks
Sunday, September 13, 2009, 3:15 p.m.
TV: Fox
Qwest Field, Seattle, WA

We covered the injury report this morning. I still haven't found another source to confirm whether or not Seattle WR Deion Branch will be out. It sounds like it's a game time decision. Ditto for Rams LB Larry Grant.

So much for old rules about wearing white after Labor Day. The Rams are sporting the all white duds today.

Here's the breakdown from 3k. And here's the game page with links to anything and everything posted about today's matchup.

For more on the Seahawks side of ledger, visit Field Gulls

And one last thing...

GO RAMS!!!

Judgement call won't be

things like 12-men is something thats a fact there were 12 men or there werent. Holding is a judgement. There have also been challenges on certain pass interference calls. Those are only to see if the contact came before or after the ball was tipped. Its not really the same thing, and it won’t happen

Ugh

This game is killing me. We’re winning the turnover battle, and don’t have any points off it. We get called for 12 men on the field on our only scoring play of the game.

I really want to have hope for a good second half, but the lack of discipline just hurts.

More takeaways, more scoring, and I’ll be happy.

Even though Cinncinati beat Southeast Missoiuri State 70-3 yesterday, I think the Redhawks would have a decent shot at the Lambs…at least I think SEMO could count to 11 and NOT put 13 players on the field….jeez…it’s going to be ANOTHER looooooong season!

Bulger-led offense

Did a Bulger-led offense score a TD in preseason??? Either one of his backups would have a better shot…..

by JWinCape on Sep 13, 2009 4:52 PM CDT reply actions

I just watched a half of two very crappy teams

The Seahawks just aren’t that good. Anyone who thinks they are didn’t watch the 1st quarter.
The Rams are still playing like a team who hasn’t adjusted to the NFL in terms of pressure, readiness or emotionality. Nine penalties? Nine?! That’s unbelievable. An offense that refuses to commit to itself. Why does Incognito insist on relying on his emotions after the whistle? I get it! You’re wild and intense. Once the whistle stops, cut that shit out. And what is the intent in the offensive play calling? This is a sad state of affairs.
Still, we have a half to get it together. Someone has to rally the offense. We know it won’t be Bulger; if it’s Jackson, so be it. But someone has to remind this team that this is 2009. We have the pieces. If we don’t realize what we are capable of, we’ll never see it on the field.

No surprise here...

No pressure at all on Baldy from our front four. Absolutely cannot stop a critical 3rd down conversion. Conversely, our offense can’t buy a 1st down and if we got to the 1 yd line, we still couldn’t score. Bulger was bad enough when he had real WR’s to throw too. Seattle should be up 28 to nothing except for a few freak good plays by our secondary. The team’s poor play has obviously rubbed off on Josh Brown too. But who cares whether it’s 28-zip or 28-6? Yecch!!!!

That's a pretty big overstatement

You wouldn’t have written that at the end of the 1st. Let’s just agree that was a piss poor showing by the offense and see how we respond in the last two quarters.

Haven't seen anything deep to him either

as a matter of fact, have we seen more than one pass longer than 20 yards? We’re throwing come back routes on 3rd and 20 for crying out loud

WOW I've said it many times in the past

Can we get a hell yea for our punter? Best in the league… if he gets snubbed from pro bowl this year, I’d quit if I were him.

Goodness

Being in Kansas City now…(and having been a Chiefs fan BEFORE the Rams came to St. Louis) rooting for the two Missouri teams is going to make for some long Sundays this season…especially on days when they play at different times, like today. I’m gonna get to watch 6+ hours of SUCK.

by stlfan on Sep 13, 2009 5:18 PM CDT reply actions

The funny part is that

if you combine the two Missouri teams, you wouldn’t get a much better team because they have the same issues. It’s tragically comedic.

I can't believe I'm paying to watch this crap...

Now the “D” has totally collapsed against the team I hate worst out of all 32. We suck everywhere except for Donnie Jones. And I hope Incognito is fired this time.

Pathetic...

On that third and nine play, did Bulger even have a clue where he was heaving the ball? Looked like he just dropped back and slung it downfield without eve looking. Heaven forbid he should try to make a play….

by JWinCape on Sep 13, 2009 5:29 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

You cant expect the defense...

…To play EVERY down…you,ve GOT to get a few first downs on offense so the D can catch its breath. No wonder Seattle’s scoring at will now…..can the Rams just concede before the end of the quarter so no one else is injured????
