Avery out 4-6 Weeks

Looks like we lost our best receiver for 4-6 weeks according to coach Spagnuolo... MRI showed more than they thought. Let's hope this doesn't hurt us.. although it's hard to imagine it NOT hurting us. If they Rams can't stretch the field teams will be tee-ing off on us.

Although he may miss only 1-2 games... but still.

I know it's just 4-6 weeks but personally i'm sick of injuries killing us every flippn' year it seems.

Anyone have any comments?

Curry, Robinson, McMike

I looked for news of this on here and didn’’t see anything so I posted the same information….after I finsihed it, it showed me this one’s been on here for 2 hours. Oh well. Beat me to it.

If this thing lingers and Curry doesn’t have a lot left, its going to come down to Robinson and McMike really needing to be able to move the chains.

He should be ready

Week 1 which is September 13th is FIVE (5) weeks away. It’s very possible depending the severity. He could be ready for the season.

Let’s keep our hopes up!

damnit

seriously?! already?! I’m hoping Bond is right, cause he’s the main WR for the future, as of now

The crap here is that...

…even if Avery is healed up by the 1st or 2nd regular season game, he’ll have missed most of training camp and all the exhibition games. To be fair, he’ll need a while to get up to speed. Thanks Heavens it wasn’t a knee, but this development is a terrible blow in one of our weakest areas…

I saw this earlier, but was having internet issues

This is a big blow to one of our weakest areas. Nevertheless, I tend to see a silver lining in everything. This gives more time to every receiver below Avery who was likely the #1 on the depth chart. Now, the depth of our WR corps gets more PT throughout the preseason which should pay dividends upon Avery’s return. Nonetheless, I felt like shit when I heard this.

That's the only silver lining

Even when Avery comes back, he’s likely to be 50-60% of the player he was for most of the season. The fact that the Rams have multiple preseason games to work with the receiving corps they have, before full competition hits, gives us our best shot of overcoming this.

If this is turf toe, and I’m betting it is, he won’t recover his full speed until a full offseason of rest.

I think we should get him a few more weeks off if it would help

But then would u rather have 50-60% all season or maybe 75-85% for 13-14 weeks.
But I don’t know if it would help or not

Toe?

That’s interesting. The 2 articles I read (one from Rams, one from local Lou media) said he has a sore foot.

Did you see something indicating it might be turf toe? I agree that this will likely hinder him to some degree all season, he’s not going to come back and just be healed.

Broken would've been better

Broken bones usually — not always but usually — heal better and often come back stronger. This is soft tissue damage that could very well linger for half the season or more.

I have less faith that Burton can do what Avery was supposed to do and now think Robinson and McMike will just be relied on more as Bulgers progressive reads. We’ll see.

Not neccesarily

Just being broken doesn’t mean surgery is called for. Surgery is done to help them align the bones if its a real bad break or to help the bones seal and heal faster if they just want to rush him back from a minor break. I’ve broken small bones in my 20’s and been back in 4 weeks (no surgery). Just depends. I think soft tissue is worse in about 4 out of 5 cases, from what I’ve seen anyway.

NFL.com says it's stress fracture

Here ya go. None of the recievers sounded very confident, which is sort of unusual for speed guys, in fact no one said they felt like they could fill Avery’s spot and Curry called him the best receiver they had.

I’m not a big fan of outlandish bluster but I’d feel better if someone had the confidence to say “Hey, don’t worry, I got it”.

Jackson's got to carry us now.

S-St. Louis, R-Rams, D-Dallas, M-Mavericks, A-Arizona, D-Diamondbacks.

He didn't have to carry us before?

How much were you expecting Avery to bring?

Broken Foot

Sando says Avery’s injury is specifically a broken fourth metatarsal bone, which is the foot bone that connects to the toe.

Have you ever heard of a “lisfranc injury”? The lisfranc is a joint in the foot, the metatarsal is one of the bones in that joint, and those injuries can take an entire year to heal properly. Because the metatarsals are so small, yet load bearing, they frequently don’t heal well. In fact, the 5th (smaller) one usually needs a screw to keep it aligned.

This is what happened to Michael Crabtree, who had surgery on March 4, and was given an estimated 10 week recoevery time — yes 10 weeks. Since he hasn’t reported to camp, it’s an open question as to whether he’s 100% even now.

I remember when the Rams bought a plant ticket for Mark Sanchez to fly to St Lou the day before the draft, then passed him up and took JSmith – that taught me they make good use of disinformation. Kinda like the Pats do.

Whether this is really a cracked 4th metatarsal or the more easily broken 5th, or even a lisfranc injury, I think we will be extremely lucky to have Avery back in the earlier time frame of 4 weeks. I’m thinking it could turn into 8 real easy.

I'm going to be watching the WR crew

very closely Friday night. We need to see if any of these guys can get the job done.
What a change from the days when we had Bruce and Holt in their primes.
