What if the Rams drafted Crabtree in 2010?
Alright, this is just a little fun at the expense of our division rivals. Pure folly.
So 49ers draft pick WR Michael Crabtree is prepared to sit out the whole season and reenter the draft for 2010. Hmmm, what if...how funny would it be if the St. Louis Rams drafted him? Of course, I don't know that I'd want to the guy on my team after a stunt like this. Take the money for being a #10 pick and live with it.
Imagine, though, the guy's draft status takes a hit for 2010 because he hasn't played football in year, dropping his draft status and vaulting other WR prospects above him in the draft (weigh in here draft experts).
Like I said, this is purely water cooler stuff, but you have to admit it would be a little funny, no?

Don't let
the Rams miss out on Tebow. The Gator will play to go high, however because of concerns over his ability to transition from college to pro will make him drop, he will be picked up in the mid first round, where hopefully the Rams will be sitting waiting to draft the quarterback of the future! JUST SAY NO! to Sam Bradford!
In regard to Crabtree, no WAY! We are better off looking at trading up and grabbing Arrelious Benn, Illinois or Brandon LaFell, LSU.
Or we could sit and wait till the 2nd round were there are gonna be a few sleeper WR’s in Naaman Roosevelt, Buffalo or Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State, Bryant of course is looking at being a possible 1st rounder, but one can hope he falls into the early 2nd.
They will notice and they will giggle.

Lets see what happens in 2009 before we assume we need a player like Tebow. I’m not sure we need to draft another young WR when we have Avery, Burton, Robinson and Stanley already.

I think we need a true #1 receiver and we're going to need a QB with the next year or two.

Listening is key when you are arguing..
Like i said, let’s see what happens in 2009. We may already have a wide reciever who can produce at a #1 level.

I listened and I'm saying that no matter what happens this season
I think we need one of these two positions first next year

so even if Bulger performs as he did in 2006 and one reciever (or more) gets huge numbers, we still need to get people at the same position?

Yes because Bulger is getting old and we need his future replacement
And I doubt if 2 receivers would get huge numbers. We are going to be a pretty one-dimensional team which I think will make us pretty defendable. We need to add more to our passing attack.

I'm of the opinion that
wide receivers should rarely be chosen in the first round. And certainly not early in the first round.

WHAT???
Don’t get enamoured by the accolades. The kid is a great person, hard worker, and a winner….but NFL QB not quite. His lack of accuracy, average mechanics are hard to take as a 1st round pick. The guys you want to keep an eye on is Snead or Mccoy. Those two have the tools that translate at the next level. bradford, I am going to see how he does with a new line. He had all day in the pocket last year and now two of those All-Americans are gone.
Dez Bryant is the best WR in next years class…hands down. He is not a sleeper by any means. I’d love to have him on the Rams though.

This whole thing is just Crabtree bluffing or being incredibly stupid
How does he think he would make that money next year when he will probably drop in the draft after not playing at all? I hope he does it because he’s on the 9ers, but if he wants to have a career at all, he would just suck it up and sign for lower than Heyward-Bey. He was drafted higher, and was overpaid. Just because you were supposed to go higher than him doesn’t mean you should get paid the same as him. 7>10 (in this case).

Well actually
its his cousin/advisor being stupid. He is the one that made the statement. In fact, his agent came in and said that he never stated that, and that he has been doing this a long time and has never made public negotiations nor threats. This is something being blown out of proportion. The agent knows that if he doesn’t sign, then that is a lost year as a millionaire in additon to the fact that no one will want to touch Crabs earlier than the late 1st round next year. This means millions less than what he will get at #10. As it is, there are already many GMs that wouldn’t draft the kid because of his attitude.
In college, there was a couple times he wouldn’t eat at team meals. He made them go to a restaurant and pick him up something different….DO YOU WANT SOMEONE LIKE THAT IN YOUR LOCKERROOM. That aside, he is a hell of a WR.

What happened to picking a defensive lineman
with our first pick next year? We know Little is about to run out the string, if he hasn’t already, and I’m not convinced we have the answers at DT. I think that’s a higher priority than a WR or “the QB of the future”.

Brandon Jones is now out for 8 weeks
So if Crabtree really sits out the season, the 49ers will have little receiving depth outside of Bruce

Hypothetical question
I Googled and could not find an answer.
Say Crabtree doesn’t sign? What about the 9ers’ pick? Did they just waste that first rounder, or do they get another in 2010 (like the MLB draft)?

I'm sure they wouldn't get a compensation pick.
The MLB draft is really unique as far as that goes. According to Wikipedia, though, compensatory draft picks can be offered to a team IF they lose a certain number of top tier free agents. This doesn’t affect Crabtree’s situation, I don’t think.
I’ve been looking too, and can’t find an example of a draft pick going completely unsigned. Apparently, it’s really, really hard to walk away from millions and millions of dollars. Who knew?

I know they
can trade him throughout the year, whether he has signed or not and let someone else try and negotiate with them. Plus they already have 2 first rounders next year.

Why doesn't Crabtree just sign a one year deal instead?
49ers would do it, because it’s better than having him sit and Crabtree doesn’t have to miss a year and he’ll hit free agency where teams will throw lots of money at him.

it doesn't
quite work that way. No team is going to pay a rookie first rounder for only one year. Rarely do you get the production out of a rookie, so what reason does San Fran have to waste a 1st round pick on someone that will not be around next year.
Remember its an investment.

But isn't it better than having him sit out?
Can they trade him?

Tim Tebow
when tebow gets drafted in the first round next yr the team he gets drafted to wont use him as a quarterback they will use him as a tight end like jason witten the reason why is because he is to small to be an nfl quarterback and the rams wont take crabtree theyn dont want a baby as a WR they have enough stars at WR even though there young
