Brett Favre signs with the Vikings

Ugh. There's nothing more tedious than the Brett Favre saga. Just when you thought it was safe to read the national press again, Favre returns, signing a deal with the Vikings today. Peter King will need a clean pair of pants, immediately.

Favre was no help to the Jets last season, and, in my humble opinion did more to hurt the team that help it. Say, how did Pennington look with the Dolphins? Who won the AFC East? Exactly. Needless to say, Minnesota Vikings fans think they've got the answer. We'll see about that. In fact, we'll see about that early in the season as the Vikings head to St. Louis for a game against the Rams in week 5. I'll still be more worried about containing Adrian Peterson than Brett Favre that week.

I think this helps the Rams in Week 5

I already had that penciled as a close game… and I think Favre does more to divide a team than to bring it together at this point. His penchant for freelancing, and their lack of an established receiver after Bernard Berrian (whom Bartell and Butler can shut down), should put plenty of balls up for grabs, and take away rushing opportunities for AP.

Are the Vikings Traumatized?

Last year the Jets had a very good O-line and RB, and a pretty decent Defense too. How much more support does a savior need?
AP is better than Thomas Jones is an exciting sort of way but as far as production goes, Thomas Jones had a damn good year and was one of the best backs in the league. I’d say last year’s Jets WR’s are probably better than this year’s Vikes too. Last year he proved to me that he should’ve stayed retired. Poor Vikings must be traumatized from Favre whoopings in years gone by, to act like this

yahbut

…the point being made is that Favre didn’t really improve the team he went to. Beating last year’s Rams is as irrelavant as the fact that the Rams have been to the SuperBowl twice since the last time Brett went. Comparisons are not to the Rams, but between the Vikes and Jets.

I definitley think people are over-estimating the improvement Brett will bring to the Vikes. Sure he’s better than Rosenfels, but he doesn’t have a great set of hands ot catch his passes, he’s much less likely to overcome injury now (and apparently already has a minor tear in the cuff) and I think this will be the most overhyped and ultimately disappointing story of the season.
