Sept. 27 GREEN BAY PACKERS (FOX) Noon L- Better offense should blitz us effectively. Score: about 24-17
Oct. 4 at San Francisco 49ers (FOX) 3:15 p.m. W- Our O-line should be able to hold up and give Bulger enough time in the pocket     10-7

Dec. 6 at Chicago Bears (FOX) Noon L- Cutler and Chi D should stop us. Blowout 38-6

My gosh!!!

I like your post and the format. However, the Cards will stomp us twice. We’ll be lucky to split with SF. Jax won’t run all over Seattle with that LB core of theirs – one win versus the Hawks would be great. The Skins will be out for revenge for last year when we started their downfall. Playing Detroit at their place makes the game a toss-up. We have a better chance of beating the Dungy and Harrison-less Colts than the much improved Texans. I hope we can take the Jags. We may surpise the Vikings and Green Bay (the Pack has nothing). The Bears and Titans will clobber us. It’s likely 5-11, or at absolute best a 7-9 record for us this year. The Cards will take the division and the Hawks or the 49ers might snake a wild card. We need a new QB, another CB, an OLB, lots of help on the D-Line and we might be in trouble at WR too. Too much to fix in one off-season.

Oh come on, ed.

I love ya ed, but I think you’re overrating a lot of our opponents.

Jax won’t run all over Seattle with that LB core of theirs

This is one of my most hated myths of the 2009 season: that Seattle’s LBs will make them a solid defense. Look, drafting Aaron Curry can’t be a huge upgrade – he’s replacing 5-time Pro-Bowler Julian Peterson. Even with the LB corps they had last year, they ranked 18th in rushing yards allowed. Not a vaunted rushing defense by any means.
I don’t know that we have a better chance with the Colts than the Texans. They’re both strong teams.
The Pack has nothing? They have an average to above average with a well above average passing defense. They addressed their run defense with the drafting of B.J. Raji Do I think they can take Minnesota? No. Do I think they can finish 2nd and maybe steal a wild card spot? Sure.
I agree on your prediction for our record, but I think you make too many of our opponents out to be much more talented than they are.

you make some good points...

Believe me, I detest Seattle. But I’m afraid Aaron Curry will turn out to be the real thing. If we could beat only one team this year, I’d want it to be the Chickenhawks. I think the Vikes will suffer from the Brett Favre “can’t quit when it’s time” syndrome. I did forget about Raji at GB. I sure wish we had him.

by edpjr on Jul 10, 2009 10:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Come on 3k

You know as well as I do Aaron Curry, as good as he is, is the #3 LB in that group. Lofa Tatupu, ex-pro-browler and Leroy Hill, the guy they were willing to put the franchise tag on, are the keys to that group. I do think Curry will be a stud, especially since I wanted the Rams to draft him this year but whatever. Anyhow they have an incredible LB core and with the addition of Redding, that fat bastard, next to Kerney, I would have to say that front 7 is decent. I only hope that all those Seadonkeys have a 17 week long case of diarrhea. That said, with the help of the beefed up O-line and a true blocking FB, Jackson will be just fine.
I agree with you on the whole GB def, but I think it will be due to the new formation and new D Coordinator.
And I also agree with you on Minn, we will not beat them, even if they have Rosenfels behind center.
I am very optimistic with the SF predictions, partly because I really would like if we smash them otherwise I will receive 1000 phone calls from all these 49er fag fans explaining to me the result as if I did not watch the damn game. Cheers.

Yahbut

I think on the bottom line, this year’s Curry is not an upgrade over last year’s Peterson. He will be eventually, we all agree, but I don’t think a rookie — even a super-talented one — is just going to step in and replace Julian Peterson on day 1. No.

So while Curry matures, so does JSmith. So does Long. So does Laurinitis. Hey, maybe so does Null.

I know, I know…sunshine out my ass and all that. Maybe Null is worthless, who really knows.
But if you throw him out, I still think my analysis is pretty fair.

Yeah

you, me and Coach understand that, but some of the pro-Curry contingent around here was so in love with him that in drafting Curry, they opined that Seattle suddenly had a great defense, or the best LBs in the league. Like Coach said, every rookie goes through adjustments; he’ll just need less to be better than most. Nevertheless, the more I look at our division, I think we have a shot if the intangibles fall into place and a couple lucky bounces go our way.

A little bit too optimistic

2-14 to 8-8 with a seemingly uprising division is no very likely.

I'm looking for 5 wins.

More would be great, but we need to be realistic. It’s gonna take more than one year to really turn this team around. There’s still too many weak spots this year.

I'd say no more than 5-6 wins

We’re still pretty bad, but hey – we’re not the Lions.

I like your optimism…….
I really do, but if we can get six wins this season after the disaster of the last two years, then Steve should be coach of the year.

At WA: Jason Campbell is not the problem with Washington. Dude is dull. He had all the chances in theworld last year to step up and show he can run that offense to its peak and he was the epitome of pedestrian. I wouldn’t argue with the L though, because their D is going ro be rough and nasty.

Sea: I think we’ll beat them twice, unless our DB’s totally fail. I don’t think their LB’s are as strong as last year, and their offense desperately needs TJ to be a star.

SF: Maybe its just me but I don’t under-estimate teams who are lousy but playing hard for their coach. Many win their last game, especially when they suck and are being taken lightly. I think our last game of the year is going to come down to if SF is feeling good about themselves…if they have grown tired of Singletary it’ll be a lot easier to chalk this up as a W.

If I add another Seattle W but take one of the SF W’s, we’re still at about the same W-L record.

I agree with your SEA assessment

and I think it shows how poorly built the Seahawks are that they need a WR who will be 32 at the end of September to carry the team.

The key to the Seadonkeys offense

is going to be Hasselback not Housh. He will be effective because the guys tools are what make him such a good WR. But that bald bastard is the key to the offense. His ability to stretch the Def. will allow their subpar running game be somewhat effective. I hope he has a stroke though….I mean that in the nicest way possible.

by CaliRamMan on Jul 15, 2009 2:53 AM CDT up reply actions

In that case, we'll be fine

I can count the number of Pro Bowl-worthy seasons from 34-year-old quarterbacks with serious back trouble on one hand, and still have five fingers left. He’s just a few hits away from being Trent Greened.

this page was either a bad prediction or a good joke.

you seriously think you can win at Seattle in week 1? they have the best home field advantage in the league and frankly they’re a much better team too.

and what’s with sweeping my niners by a combined score of 34-14? have you forgotten losing to them twice by a combined 52-32 last year? the “very easy opponent this late in the season” thing was even more hilarious considering they won 4 of their last 5 in ’08.

but by far the funniest thing on this page was the prediction where the rams actually beat the new orleans saints while holding their offense to 14 points. do you know who drew brees is?

oh, and i love how you say the jaguars have “nothing” for your defense to stop and then predict them to put up 20 points anyway. now THAT sounds like the rams.

I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.

Unfortunately, you make some good points...

I suspect your 49ers are still better than our Rams, but last year’s dismal excuse for a team came within a gnat’s butt of beating SF in the 2nd game. Only ridiculous play calling by that now departed inept coaching staff and 4th quarter wizardry by Isaac Bruce pulled it out for the ‘niners. So, we might legitimately snake a game from you guys this year. And, oh yeah, I’ll give Singletary credit for getting rid of Mike Martz. Martz almost singlehandedly disassembled a potential NFL dynasty built by Dick Vermeil. His worst act of treachery was dumping Kurt Warner too early.

by edpjr on Jul 19, 2009 8:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Mike Martz

also cost SF a monday night game against the Cardinals in Arizona. it came down to a do-or-die play from the 2 yard line with the niners down by 5, and he calls for a handoff to… (drumroll) MICHAEL ROBINSON! what? seriously? who leaves frank gore on the bench in a crucial division game when you need a two yard run to win? apparently mike martz, like jake delhomme, was hellbent on the cardinals making the superbowl.

I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.

by these3words on Jul 19, 2009 9:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I watched that Monday nite game too. You're right!

But for a Ram fan the saddest day was when we lost the Super Bowl to the Patriots. The 2001 Rams were far more talented and powerful than the Pats. However, Bill Bellicheat outcoached Martz by an order of magnitude that day in New Orleans. We had Marshall Faulk in his prime at the time, but Martz barely utilized him in the game. I’m convinced we could’ve run on the Pats, but Martz went pass crazy. That allowed the Pat’s D to key on Warner virtually every play. Our defense allowed only 13 points, and we still lost…

by edpjr on Jul 19, 2009 11:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes

I seriously do think the Rams can win at Seattle in week 1, yep.
Here’s your wake up call — Its not last year, we’ve improved the O-line and Seattle has a diminished WR corp from what they used to be. and replaced Julian Peterson with a rookie. Week 1, Curry learns who wear #39!!!
