St. Louis Rams interested in DT Hollis Thomas
Reading ESPN Insider this morning, and the Rams' name was listed as potential destination for Hollis Thomas. If you do not have an ESPN Insider account, I will copy article below:
![]() |
Hollis Thomas is ready for season No. 14 of his NFL career, and apparently there are four NFL teams who are ready to have him. Furthermore, Pro Football Talk has been told by a source that Thomas is set to make a decision upon where he'll play in 2009 this week. As per PFT, the Philadelphia Eagles -- with whom he visited recently -- and the St. Louis Rams are in the mix. Another potential team could be the Detroit Lions, who are looking to add bulk to their defensive line with free agent signee Grady Jackson injured and facing a suspension. |

I say don't touch Thomas!
The guy is 35 years old, come on, he’s not only one of the soon-to-be ‘Over-the-hill’ gang but he’s out of shape and I don’t think he ever really recovered from his injury.
He tore a tendon in his left triceps during the Saints training camp last year, I think it happened in August. Then in September he was released by ew Orleans. I know he was then resigned in November, one month after they released him but now New Orleans released him again this past April when he came into their off-season program out of shape.
If the Rams do take him isn’t that going against their “youth movement” for the future AND Spags 4 pillars doctrine? I mention the 4 pillars because the NFL suspended Thomas in 2006 for violating the league’s steroids policy.
Go Rams!
"We can't run. We can't pass. We can't stop the run. We can't stop the pass. We can't kick. Other than that, we're just not a very good football team right now." --- Bruce Coslett, New York Jets Head Coach circa 1990s
Someone told a source, who apparently told Florio, who told ESPN…that the Rams are “in the mix”. Hmm. Does a 14 year player with injury and conditioning issues make sense for this team? In my mind, bad conditioning = bad attitude. I’d be surprised if this turns out to be anything other than Hollis’s agent making a whore out of Florio.

good point
but I still wouldn’t be too surprised if he came to camp on a trial basis…if no other team gave him a guaranteed contract

possible
I suppose anything’s possible for our weakest position. He does bring more experience than Curry did to our wides. He’d have to get (and stay) serious about his conditioning because that’s the only way he could possibly avoid reinjury. I see that as an extremely high risk given that he’s already shown a willingness to shortcut conditioning, and I wouldn’t want to line him up next to Long or Little. I predict that whatever team he goes to, if he plays, he ends up on the injured list.

hollis
his best years are far behind him. The RAMS need to stay away from the very old and get some folks that will be around and playing for 5-10 years. He must be very cheap for the RAMS to consider the GERIATRIC pool, but then there interested in that piece of SHIT VICK.

We just got rid of a bunch of old goats...
…and still have a few to go, i.e. Little and Hall. We certainly don’t need another over-the-hill D-Lineman. And, given the uncertainty surrounding Marc Bulger, we should be first in line to get Micheal Vick.
Man, edpjr, it really gets old hearing you say
the same things over and over – get rid of Little and Hall and sign Vick. How about talking about something else concerning the Rams?
If the Rams would sign Vick it would mean they were willing to sacrifice the long term development of the team for another win or two (maybe) this year. The kind of short term thinking would keep the Rams at the bottom of the league for ever. At some point you have to stop thinking about quick fixes and start thinking about building a team that can win for a long time.
Why don't YOU find something else to complain about??
I’m not one of those fans, like you, that’s willing to wait years for the Rams to regain a measure of respectability. In 40+ years of pulling for the Rams, the last two seasons are the worst in history. I want some action now, not some mythical dream of slowly building a team of “saints” for the long run. Baloney! As the years go by Jax, Bulger and a host of others are gonna be PAST their primes while YOU’RE waiting for a contender to develop. And don’t worry about signing Vick, the Rams are obviously too stupid to pursue the 3rd all-time QB rushing leader. Guys like you would ’ve never signed Randy Moss or Ray Lewis either.
I would certainly have signed Ray Lewis.
It isn’t about whether they have been good boys, it’s about whether they’ll play team ball. Lewis obviously does – he leads the team in that regard. Vick never has and never will play team ball. And yes, I would trade a win or two now for a bunch of wins in a year or two.
I would have
said yes, but there has been too many injuries.
The connection...
Hollis Thomas played for the Eagles while Spags was a linebacker coach there.
He’s a good run stopper.
I just don't see the logic here...
…a 340 lb 35 year old with recent injury history? Little, Hall, Carriker and Long must be worse than I thought. And It appears Spags thinks so, if he needs this guy. Where’s Ryan, Scott and Ah You? Sheesh!
