Round 2 open thread
This one goes a little faster, and there may be some solid picks available to the Rams here.
A couple of solid LBs in Rey Maualuga and James Laurinaitis are still on the board; both would fill a huge need for the Rams. I'd bet New England, with the 34th pick, takes one of those guys to play ILB next to Jerod Mayo.
A note about the conversation. Different viewpoints are good, just complaining is not.

i just read online
on twitter off of NFL.com that he will be making a call to stlouis to apologize
"Score some damn runs, or the baby pandas die"
are you guys watching nfl network?
Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky and I went horseback riding, but there weren't any horses around? Anyway, Brasky throws a saddle on my back and rides me around Wyoming for three days. Well, wouldn't ya know it, my stamina increased with each day, and I develop tremendous leg muscles. So anyway, Brasky decides to enter me into the Breeders Cup under the name Turkish Delight. And Im running in second place, and I'm running, and I break my ankle. So anyway, they're about to shoot me. Then someone from the crowd yells out, God bless him, Dont shoot him, he's a human.

Luarinitus is a best
now we just need to get a WR
Good pick I wasn't sold on Rey
I wasn’t sold on Rey there is a reason he is dropping this far
I am so fine with Laurinitis
There must be something wrong with Rey that we don’t know about. We aren’t the only ones expected to take him who passed.
Angel Pitching (Adenhart), Angel Defense - get past that.
WR's are going early
I thought for sure some of these would fall a little further

Wow
We might need to trade up, only Barden and Massaquoi left
This only goes until 8 pm central time.

Satisfied with Laurinaitus but i was excited at the fact of getting both Smith and Rey would have been pretty impressive….oh well
Feel pretty good about how its starting out

I don't think WR is on the Rams radar this year
What do you guys think 3rd round looks like it might not have any good one’s
we need to trade back into the second round and take barden…
Dream scenario for me
Smith
Laurinaitus
Barden

But if your going to be a running team
Why trade away pics to upgrade an aspect of your offense that you will not use that much
Steven Jackson has proved he can be injury prone
I see the rams picking a RB in the 3rd
reciever is still important because Jackson will set up the pass.
we need a posession eciever like barden

agreed on moving back into the second to take barden?

I just don’t see the logic in giving up a pick to move up to get someone that might crack the roster and get the ball mybe 3 times a game
no but
we need someone to throw to in the Red Zone, Barden is 6’6
agreed caruso
you got it right on Avery will be our quick deep threat while Barden can be used a lot in the redzone.

That means 3rd round is today right ?

ESPN really gives up after the first round.
They don’t even show half the picks anymore
09 Offensive line
Smith,Bell,Brown,Cogs,Barron……………im sure Barron will go back to RT, I know we didnt pay #2 money for a RT…………thats a pretty impressive line and we have depth too…………09 prediction: Jackson 2,000 all purpose yards…………what do you guys think?
3k for Rams asst GM.....someone make it happen!
I have proof TackleBox IS Jim Haslett
Jackson 2,000 rushing yards
My 1st pick in fantasy this year
Jackson has the ability to be great next year but lets not jump to any conclusions…

Draft Grade So Far?
I give them a C so far…………..as far as Im concerned they struck out twice, taking Smith over Curry then taking Lauranitis over Maulauga…………Britton was available after we picked in the 2nd, that would have taken care of our RT position………….any thoughts?
3k for Rams asst GM.....someone make it happen!
I have proof TackleBox IS Jim Haslett
I don’t like the Smith pick either, Curry going to Seattle really sucks. I give them a B so far. WE needed a tackle but you could have got one in the second.
I actually like Lauranitis, he will be productive. He will not have the impact Curry would have brought but he will be productive
Curry isn't a MLB
thats what we needed, he was a giant risk. You dont take someone #2 if your taking him for a position he doesn’t play
To think that Curry can’t play MLB is pretty dumb I am not trying to be rude. The guy is smart and is 250 lbs and runs 4.6 speed
Put it this way
who do you think is the best safety?
It’s done with now, But mark my words Curry will be the next Rey Lewis, He will punish the NFC West. It sucks that Seattle picked him up
Yes becuase he's gonna play OLB
MLB is a different position u wouldn’t pick up Ed Reed to play CB.
But it’s not a stretch to say he can’t play that position, Yo uguys act like NFL caliber Players are stupid and can only play one position
OMG
we would repeat our own mistakes, look at Witherspoon, he’s a beast OLB but only a average MLB
good point caruso he will be an impact player right away staying at OLB
but im pretty sure he could have made the switch to MLB with a little bit of time
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:32 PM CDT up reply actions
Yes he could
but he wouldn’t be on the same level, Curry at OLB is a top 5 pick, but Curry at MLB is probably the same or a lil worse then Luarinitus
he could have been just as good at MLB but it probably would have taken him a little bit more time
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:44 PM CDT up reply actions
definitely suxs that he went to seattle but i think our first pick, Smith, can be great as well.
and plus we still get a solid MLB in Lauinaitus
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:29 PM CDT up reply actions
I definitely didnt expect Laurinaitus to fall to us which is why i was all for Curry.
But Laurinaitus will give us solid play at MLB while still being able to hjave our LT to protect Bulger.
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:27 PM CDT up reply actions
They didn't draft for a RT in the 1st
they drafted a LT if they drafted for a RT they get an automatic F, otherwise they have and A+, they got the best lineman and the best MLB
Is Smith Ready?
for LT in the NFL…………from what I read, Monroe was the only NFL ready LT
3k for Rams asst GM.....someone make it happen!
I have proof TackleBox IS Jim Haslett
he has a lot of potential…he should be fine
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions
obviously Maualuga fell for a reason and Laurinaitus is a Spags type player…solid and consistent so im satisfied with him.
And i was only satisfied with the Smith pick once Laurinaitus (and Rey) fell to us….because we were able to pick two great guys to fill in our biggest needs.
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:25 PM CDT up reply actions
Rey fell because he is inconsistent The Rams couldn’t afford to pick someone that doesn’t produce all the time.
Pretty much
and because he was considered a 2 down LB
thats why im satisfied with the laurinaitis as an every down LB
he is solid and consistent
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:46 PM CDT up reply actions
But
is he a playmaker?…….i ask this because i honestly dont know. I didnt watch him much.
3k for Rams asst GM.....someone make it happen!
I have proof TackleBox IS Jim Haslett
In my opinion
yes, the only reason he dropped to the 2nd is because of poor combine and pro day numbers
From what was said he was, but he lacked consistency and many felt that he was not a every down player.
Laurinaitis might not as big of a “huge play” player, but he is much more consistent, and can tackle very well. He isn’t much of a blizter apparently, but I think he won’t need to do much of that. He’s also said to be decent in coverage and has soft enough hands to pick up an INT.
Good player, needs to add a little strength, but hey, they got a weight room at Rams Park, no biggie.
I heart Scotty L.
(in 2006)
from what ive researched, i think he can be an every down player…what do you guys think?
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:51 PM CDT up reply actions
yes
work out some n get a lil faster n he’s a 3 down LB
yea for sure… i am very opimistic about him being our every down MLB
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:57 PM CDT up reply actions
from what they said about him it sounds like he will be a brian urlacher type LB…not very flashy but will be consistent and a tackle machine
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:49 PM CDT up reply actions
OK
thats what I needed to know, who does he compare to. If its Urlacher, then great! if not, then we gave up a Junior Seau type player. I just think our D needed atitude and Curry or Maulaug would have given us that
3k for Rams asst GM.....someone make it happen!
I have proof TackleBox IS Jim Haslett
yea he will lead by example…definitely see him becoming an Urlacher type player
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:54 PM CDT up reply actions
If he's there I expect
the Rams to take him or Massaquoi
i would even consider trading back into the second to take barden
or Fili Moala
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:47 PM CDT up reply actions
Thats a great pick for Seattle
Max is a beast
yes but Barden would be great if we could get him….
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:57 PM CDT up reply actions
why?
I don’t really understand people thinking we absolutely need to pick up a WR here. We have three good young guys at the position now, and this is an area where many players put it together only after a year or two in the league. Will the guys going now really be that much better than Avery, Burton, and Robinson? It seems to me that they would probably be better off getting a good backup RB or another defensive player at the top of rnd. 3, and then getting more of a project WR later in the draft.
Becuase
We need a WR that we can throw to in the Red Zone
can't afford to be that specific...
I think the thing we need most is talent, so they just need to take the guys who will make the biggest impact in the long run instead of using mid-round picks to try to meet very specialized needs.
umm not sure what about iglesias hes still available right?
oh and i like patrick turner as another option…
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:55 PM CDT reply actions
Turner
he’s a good option
3k for Rams asst GM.....someone make it happen!
I have proof TackleBox IS Jim Haslett
Well it depends
Bardens the best big WR, but theres still Derrick Williams n Juaquin Iglesias
yea i would be satisfied with either Iglesias Williams or Turner if we cant get Barden
by rams since day1 on Apr 25, 2009 7:59 PM CDT reply actions
Here’s an article on how Luarinitus will affect us/
That's a pretty unimpressive list of linebackers drafted by Devaney...
Jamie Winborn (2001) was possibly the most consistent linebacker of a bad crop, but no star.
Patrick Sapp (1996) washed out after four years in the league. The later rounds of this draft produced Tedy Bruschi, Donnie Edwards, and Zach Thomas.
Saleem Rasheed (2002) also disappeared after four years. Will Witherspoon was taken four picks later.
Michael Hamilton (1997) started two games in his career. This was another bad year for late-round linebackers, but Bertrand Berry was found by the Colts a dozen or so picks later.
None of these other guys made much of a ripple on the league. Hopefully he gets luckier on Laurinaitis, but choosing a less-athletic player because of his pedigree and “leadership” doesn’t sit too well with this pattern. Again, though, I do wonder what the book became on Maualuga, why both of his USC mates went before him when he was the obvious pre-draft star.
"Attaway to stomp 'em. Stomp the piss out of 'em. Stomp 'em when they're down. Kick 'em and stomp 'em. Attaway to go boys. Pound that old Budweiser into you and go get them tomorrow." -- Joe Schultz
nice im really optimistic about Laurinitis
