Just how interested are the Rams in Mark Sanchez?

From Steve Wyche of NFL.com:

The Rams, who hold the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, have purchased a plane ticket for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez to fly from Los Angeles to St. Louis on Sunday, when the team plans to introduce its top selection.

This is interesting, to say the least. We've heard rumors about Sanchez going to the Rams all day long, and this would appear to add validation to those rumors. If it were to come down to Sanchez, Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe, who would everyone here pick?

If this pick is about need, then the Rams should flip a coin between Smith and Monroe and choose one of them. If it is about selecting the best player of the three, then Sanchez is the way to go. I personally think he will have a better pro career than Matthew Stafford, and I actually think he would be a very good fit for the Rams in a year or two. While he doesn't have the arm strenght of Stafford, he is much more accurate and an excellent decision-maker. He's also more mobile then Stafford, and I think he will prove to be an outstanding leader and face of the franchise for years to come.

Huh...

Stafford a Lion, and now Sanchez has a plane ticket to ol’ STL. I hope it’s a ploy.

THIS year's the year. I hope....

I heard a report

on this plane ticket this afternoon, and they didn’t give it much credence. They felt it was just more draft smoke and rumors. If we take Sanchez and don’t get Bulger any line protection or decent receivers, we will need Sanchez since Bulger will get killed.

Sanchez and Reports

“There also were rumors as of late Friday that St. Louis planned to select QB Mark Sanchez of USC with the No. 2 overall pick, but those reports are far more tenuous and have not been confirmed.”
-Jason Cole

“Some NFL teams are privately speculating that [Sanchez is picked by the Rams] might happen.”

I'm excited

But not about drafting Sanchez about trading down to a team that wants Sanchez. Yeaaaaa more picks.

Not likely to happen

The other teams will try to work out a reatively cheaper deal(trade-wise and contract-wise) with KC
Why move up all the way to number 2 when number 3 is clearly available?

Billy said during JT's chat on the PD when asked about Sanchez

Archery Ram: HI JIM,

Do you think that Devaney is serious about drafting Sanchez for the Rams on Sat or is it all smokescreen?

How is your son doing at West Point?

GOD BLESS OR TROOPS

I'm Confused

Half of u guys a month ago were talking about getting rid of Bulger and how bad he was, but now that there’s talk of the Rams taking Sanchez everyone doesn’t want a new QB

Just heard on ESPN

that the Rams did buy a plant ticket for Sanchez. However, they also bought plan tickets for Jason Smith and Monroe. Also just heard an interview with Devaney in which he was strongly hinting the Rams are getting interest from others about trading up to our pick. With just four hours left, it’s hard to know what is going on.

yup

I’m watching ESPN & NFL Network, so if anybody catches something I miss, throw it in the open thread on the front page so we can consolidate all of our insight, knowledge, hopes and dreams, and unfounded gossip.
